  • wow...this is more than amazing. I was born in the wrong time. I love her slide.

  • mastery!

  • totally cool.....!!!!

  • Super cool tune.

That back and forth between two chords reminds me of A Night In Tunisia.

  • era un ángel,cantando blues

  • her voice is so suave and sexy, i tear up listening to her silky smooth rapsody

  • I wish I knew someone who could sing even close to her and be able to sit right at the stage and just close my eyes and see and feel the music and words in my soul.

  • @ThePencillegs the birth of true music goes back to classical music. as a matter of fact even father then that. it started with the gregorian chants. but even father. The gregorian chants were the first form of documented music.

  • @wonderful543 i'm sure prehistoric man made some kind of percussive music:p

  • @MrPsychopath83 - Hah! Julie L's version's a vamp masterpiece but I think Sarah's vocal here is slightly prettier and more musical. BTW if you want a version that really sounds like the singer hasn't slept a wink and really IS stuffing her face with black coffee try Peggy Lee's...

  • 5 people have no appreciation for the birth of true music?

  • The Divine One!

    SARAH VAUGHAN {1924-1990}

  • She and Dinah are the best jazz singers for me...amazing.

  • @doma68ful Finally someone thats not all about ella and billie

  • @NatsHowTos hhaha that't true, for me ella is not that great compared to Sarah and Dinah...I liked Billie too, but these two are incredible. ;)

  • I NEED MY DRINK OF BLACK COFFEE WHILE I'M WAITING FOR MY BABY TO MAYBE COME AROUND.

  • Dear lord... I think I can die happy now.

  • black angel

  • THE DIVINE ONE!

    Rest Peacefully

    SARAH VAUGHAN (1924-1990)

  • Her voice is like the sweetest espresso... rich, bold, soothing.

    SARAH VAUGHAN (1924-1990)

  • oh my gosh i love her voice

  • Wow....simply amazing. And some of my friends ask me why I don't like the so called "singers" they try to throw up in my face today. I think this is a good example why! Great post!!

  • Not only is The Sassy One 1 of my all time personal favs...and used to be able to immitate her quite well, for a guy lol...but LOVE this song....some versions of this classic too...but Sarahs rendition, well, can you say wow?! Just makes u want to get off your chair or whatever, and just glide your body on the floor, while sipping that Black Coffee....Perrrrrrfect song while doing Brunch : )

  • I got a great tip for homemade espresso at coffeeloverstipandtricks (.) com

  • as divas somente as divas

  • For me this is the ultimate Sarah Vaugh recording. Black Coffeeeeeeeeeee....

  • It pisses me off that a lot of you have this one degree of separation with this kind of talent. Envy.

  • I love Sarah's, Ella's, Julie's and Peggy's renditions and I just love this song, no matter who sings it - each of them brought their own unique quality to it.

  • When I was 9 years old, my father used to listen to this and all of Sarah Vaughan's hits on a cassette tape which I still have of her, this, Prelude to a Kiss, Whatever Lola wants, Lover Man, Polka Dots and moonbeams, You hit the spot, The Nearness of You, and so many more hits were on this...I loved these recordings!!!!

  • Hey STORMYB:

If you have the opportunity listen to Sassy's version of "Blue Orchids" ~ AMAZING!

  • I am so damn lucky - The Divine One actually sang "Misty" to me at the Blue Note in Chicago ... way back when!

It's in my book Southside Kid which you can google or take a peek at Amazon

    Curt

  • @curtflirt1 IM JEALOUS OF U MR CURT

  • Hey Stormy: Excerpt from my Southside Kid book

As closing time approached, we had moved up to a front table. She hardly glanced my way through several sets. She was wearing a mauve brocade evening gown. With her mike and cord in hand, she gracefully vamped down the two or three steps from the stage. I could smell her floral perfume as she approached our table. When she was practically in my face—“Look at me, I’m as helpless as a kitten up a tree …”— with a big smile. cont'd ...

  • @curtflirt1

cont'd - She finished with a heavy accent on that last line, “Look at me!” virtually face-to-face with this overwhelmed kid! Then, as she began to turn, she softly touched my right hand—the hand that was now sweaty and gripping my beverage very tightly.

  • @curtflirt1

WOW!! I used to go to the Blue Note back in the 50s and loved it.

Do you remember Robert's Show Lounge?

They had set ups where you brought your own booze, etc.

It was on 65th & Southpark.

    Ahh, the good old days.

Tell me more about your book.

I was a white guy from tightywhiteyville in the west burbs butt, I knew better than what they were putting down.

  • @curtflirt1

I used to go there all the time.

    I loved the place.

Back in the 50s, they had a section for underage kids and, it was great that we were able to enjoy the best music around.

Used to make sure I saw Count there when he was in town.

  • @DAGUY Me too! The teen area was aptly called The Teen Terrace. When our fave guy was at the door, we drank Manhattans. When we were ID'd, we'd sit up there and sip java.

Amazon review on my "Southside Kid" book. I'm reading Southside Kid, , but wait!...don't listen to me, Curt is patiently waiting at the curb in his Merc', the door is open and you're invited. Hang on tight! You're not going to believe it,hurry up 'cause I know he wants to hit the Blue Note tonight ... Basie is in town.

  • she is an absolute talent!

  • The first verison and the best!!!!!!

  • God damned sexy thats all I can say.

  • great version!!

  • Nice, but I prefer Ella's and Peggy Lee's versions. They are more soulful and they both have better voices.

  • @kastellos lol, you've got to be kidding!

  • I love her - cant seem to get (ill be seeing you) on u tube - its one of my favs by her and its awesome

  • photo © Herman Leonard!

  • Love Sarah's low, low womanly voice!

  • I like this version the best, maybe because it's the original or something. I just like how she sings. Oh but the Ella Fitzgerald and Julie London verisons are great 2.

  • I love the bkg music, esp. the flute (I PLAY!) more than her voice...

  • I love this version, for the brass. But, Fitzgerald's rendition, dear lord, sounds like the woman is in utter despair. Beautiful lament, regardless of the vocalist.

  • my favourite version , I got truly inspired by her sound.

    She was awesome.

  • i LOVE this vrsion

  • Singing this with my school jazz band..this helped, thanks

  • incredible song, despite being a bloke, im most jealous that youve had the chance to sing this mmyeaah. Howd it go? I think you may need a few ciggies before going on for this one.

  • @hugleberthumperdink Haha, indeed I think a barrel of cigars would be in order to attempt the timbre of Sarah's voice! This is permanently in our set now, and it is most enjoyable to sing! It allows so much variation within the simple rif - I love it!

  • nice version... but my favourite is Peggy Lee's version

  • So close to skin. Vaughan's just the best, time, tune, timbre. Pure sound. Teaches us all to listen and love. Hearing's believing

  • love it!
