  • the best guitarist of the 60 -70.

    R.I.P

    better or jimmy hendrix .

    your are the best ^^

your in my memories ever ^^

  • This is my favourite by far - the world is divided into those who were priveleged to see Rory play live and those who didn't . This doesn't have the energy of being at one of his performances, (unfortunately they haven't found a way to record that yet, other than in memories), but this is so much better than just having vinyl / cd.

    Thanks for uploading it

  • @CraigsOverijse I was there - very priveleged to see Rory up close in '82, but these videos are priceless..... I cant get enough.

  • 4 nutters need to be returned to the secure unit

  • whenever i listen to rory my love for where i live increases.. long live rory and cork city , ireland ... YEAH YEAH YEAAAAAAAAAH

  • @conkerz22 Same here

  • Greece loves Rory...

  • a song writer and guitar great

  • Rory is my religion

  • rory lo maximo

  • saw him in 1980, Brilliant

  • can anybody please tell me,what ''philby'' means ?.Is it irish slang? . I'm not a native english speaker. thanks anyway !.

  • @HeyJoe678 It's about Kim Philby, the legendary Soviet spy who was a high-ranking member of British intelligence.

  • @fbcorcoran thank you very much !.

  • great

  • once again; a clip that shows Rory as a true master.

  • For me this is the definitive version of this tune, got this DVD, love it.

  • The Coral Sitar was manufactured by Danelectro for Coral.

  • You tell em Lou!

  • Lou, there is a company called Rogue who do a cheaper copy of these Sitars, can't find one in UK.

  • he means an original coral sitar, not the danelectro reissue

  • jo

    ..

    ..

    ..

  • coral sitar sounds awesome.

  • that sitar hes playing there are only 50 in the world

  • Bollocks - you can get a Danelectro electric sitar on ebay for less than £425...which is, I believe, the one he played. If there were only 50 in the world, they'd be worth more than that.....

  • Is the Danelectro any good?

I had their guitar and had a stupid accident while changing the strings and broke it. :((((

  • Ok just clear up the choral sitar issue from someone who has played one of each (guitar for the last 15 years, choral sitar for two days at a friends and a sitar) . The instrument is a guitar - it has an altered bridge that simulates the sound of string buzz from a real sitar. It has a separate section with harp tuned harmony strings with a similar bridge adaptation. It is tuned and strung like a guitar with a guitar scale length and fret board spacing - this is a guitar - end of.

  • saw in in 1980.

it sounds only slightly like an indian sitar, nothing more. I own an indian sitar, it has about 22 strings, and is a bloody nightmare to tune. You have to hear it to believe it. It's like being transported thousands of years back through time. it would be dam near impossible to re-create the sound of it

  • my god i love this song..what a legend

  • His Electric Sitar sounds WAY more like an electric guitar than a sitar. Did he customize his?

  • it does have additional string's i believe...

  • what is that guitar?

  • Great singer, great guitarist and even a better man!But he left too early...... :(:(

    I love this song!!

  • legendary man and sounds

  • Sweet!

  • Rory shines !!!

    Thanks for posting

  • beautiful guitar

  • is actully a sitar!

  • That is not a sitar.

  • it is itrs an electric sitar

it even says that in the interview with his brother

  • NO. It buzzes like a sitar, but it is not a sitar. That is like taking some violin strings and putting them on an empty ice cream box, putting some pick ups in there and saying "Look, its an electric stratovarius". No, just no.

  • no but i saw it in an interview with his brother and he said that there was only somthing like 20 of them made and if you don't believe me look for the interview with his brother donal.

  • I have seen it, but I am saying that it is not a real sitar.

  • What a retarded comment. it's obviously modified fron an original sitar, one where you have it sitting in your crotch whilst you sit on a cushion :S for obvious guitar playing reasons. google the electric sitar b4 you make a worthless comment that you persisted with.

  • YOU TOTAL DOLT. Try googling sitar and look at how it is constructed. Like I said: It buzzes like a sitar, but it is not a sitar. That is like taking some violin strings and putting them on an empty ice cream box, putting some pick ups in there and saying "Look, its an electric stratovarius".

  • you still dont get it do you.... the manufacturer's of the instrument that rory is playing on this video call it an "electric "sitar, based on an original sitar with "certain" feature's and sound of the instrument yet obviously it aint a "sitar" ffs.

  • The only similarity is: it has strings, it has some sympathetic strings and frets (which you can't adjust). You just basically said what I said, you total moron. Try looking back at the history of what I have written, then, SHUT THE FUCK UP.

  • also check out philby in texas by againstthegrain and read the comment's someone seem's to know.

  • Yes, he a playing a Coral electric sitar. These were made by dan electro. Very few originals were made because dan electro went out of business right after that. It was made so a guitar player cause

produce electric sitar sounds without having to learn to play the difficult to master original indian version.

  • thanks. love rory.

  • El mejor

  • Theyve just released his performances at Montreux on DVD, spans over 10 years and 4 or 5 performances. Good Value :)

  • My old man asked me if i could download some music by taste or rory gallagher id never heard of them, so i did a bit of research and when i found some of his performances from Live at Montreux OMG blew me away.

  • YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!

  • what's the guitar he played with?

  • A Coral electric sitar.

  • Oh, que buen sonido, este hombre es una máquina.

  • It's a Coral "Electric Sitar" ....as well the 6 normal strings, it had several drone strings that gave it it's distinctive dissonant eastern flavour.

  • @tonyhawk55

a fender stratocaster. his sweat burnt off most of the finish, he was a unique blood type

  • guys though i am from the other side of europe i believe tha rory was one of the greatest if not the greatest musicians, rockers, singers, rebel, call it whatever you want, ever lived in the godamned history of man!

  • Well, damn me, kransnif! This was posted by you 3 days after I joined up here on yt, and I`d have thought that I would`ve found this version of yours before now! I guess it goes to show once again, that Rory didn`t only play one performance, to the only song he knew! Five from me, and thanks...real nice piece, all around.

    Joe

  • Hi joe

Great version, i love the longer versions of this one.

  • god i miss those days

  • u know fuck me,thats good memories, when we had a band in the basement back in Norway,we sucked but man did we listen to good tunes

  • fantastic performance, thanx for postin that man!

  • That "tick-tock, tick-tock" guitar solo he does halfway through to describe Philby's plight (and maybe his own) is amazing. I once saw him describe a cat scratching using only guitar riffs. He was a genius - no question.

  • fianlly someone wrote a song bout me!! lol

  • What a great version!!!

The sax is an awesome touch.

  • Rory was a great Rock & Roll Guitar player ,he realy had a cool sound,i love this tune

  • Available on complete Rockpalast DVD from Lorely 82 some great performances on same 3 disc collection

  • What I'd give for a shot of Rory's strat!!

  • reminds me alot of the version on the montreux cd...That he made the song continue and continue made it my favourite song of Rory out of this period! It is wonderful. ANd I love that instrument!

  • Its from The Loreley Open Air show 28-8-82.I love this version, glad you liked it.

  • Thanx for posting, but... When was this? It looks like German TV (Rockpalast?)and around 1984 to me, but... ? The horns should be a dead give-away methinks.
