i know this will probably sound strange, but the guy who plays emile de becque is fine.......and i love this production of south pacific. my favorite one that i've ever seen.
@gabygogo505 He was originally suppose to reprise his role for the PBS Broadcast for one night on Broadway but couldn't do it due to conflicts with shooting Glee!!
Kelli's performance in this is a masterclass in character portrayal. You'll rarely see a performance this genuine, honest, and emotionally compelling. Such an inspiration.
It's interesting that they displayed the first two paragraphs of the novel on the screen. I have not seen a lot of other productions, but I have never heard of that being done. It's a nice touch. This is one of the few times in which I read the novel on which a musical or play was based and I remember those opening paragraphs.
Up until this aired on Live From Lincoln Center, I had no desire to see this production on Broadway or on tour, and now I realize how naïve that was for immediately dismissing a show since the revival began previews in 2008. What a lovely production and company!
This is a beautiful musical. Call me closed-minded. Call me silly. Call me old-fashioned, but you have to admit, Rogers and Hammerstein, for being so classical Broadway, is timeless.
@broadwaystar2011 I agree! I'm actually rather young to be saying it I guess. But I love all of the Rogers and Hammerstein's productions that I've seen.
I especially enjoy the music. The songs always manage to stick with me!

I love the APPLAUSE when they enter...it's like a sitcom studio in a TV station...love the response.
