ah the governments screwed. I couldnt sell ma old G reg fiesta after the head gasket went (making mayonaisse in the engine) So i didnt pay tax or declare sorn.

Well we are taxed to the hilt over here - we pay tax on everything.....a gallon of gasoline is nearly the equivalent of $7.50 largely because of fuel duty. The DVLA (the equivalent of the DMV in America) is the Government agency responsible for this car we'll-crush-your-car-if-you-don't-pay lark.
Personally I think it's a bit heavy handed - especially since a lot of the cars they crush are perfectly servicable.....so much for conservation of resources!!!!

They tryed to pull something like that hear in the U,S,A. If you car was over 20 years old you could not get tags for it and you had to pay to scrap it.

If you don't pay they will come and take the car away and threaten your car with the crusher if you don't pay up. Usually however, they only crush cars with no road tax that also don't have an MoT test certificate for the year.
No, in Britain the Government comes down heavily on people who don't pay their annual road tax - the policy is to confiscate untaxed vehicles and threaten the owners with putting them through the crusher unless the owner coughs up the cash.
More often than not those who dodge road tax are also driving unroadworthy vehicles so here you see the police making a point.
Why is it only tiny cars I see getting mashed with this machine? Why not crush a full-sized pickup and record it?
