WHY DANCE IN SUCH AN UNNATURAL POSITION? Well, for the dancer who wishes to express themselves beyond the normal lay persons posture, turnout affords a level of potential force that without, humans would not be capable of the sublime positions and incredible physical feats seen at the ballet. Baryshnikov would never have graced our stage and Zakharova or Guillem or Nureyev would have been something other than what we know them as today. Ballet glorifies the body as opera glorifies the voice.
Excellent. However, I think T/O began when it was discovered that it is easier to stay on balance while bowing (to the king in France) you know the hat swirl bow? Well, try to do that with your feet turned in... versus the supporting foot turned out, MUCH easier and less risk of falling over! The last thing a subject would want to display to their court! I have also discovered that it is possible to T/O totally without harm and the method and reasons why lead to whole new life for ballet.
I love the comical choreography. I memorized most of it and performed it for my little niece; she's only just begun dancing. Her turnout is indeed, terrible lol. ;)
Actually it's completely original. The music is by Scott Joplin, but the words are spoken by the choreographer Dr. Suzanne Oliver from San Jacinto College South Campus in Houston Texas
