as much as i like great whites, and think of them as greatly underrated, there's been two recorded battles between these two and killer whales won on both occasions, killer whales are without doubt the toughest of the two, i also find it funny that killer whales have killed more people in captivity than in wild
As for orca vs megalodon megalodon hands down. One orca could not bring down a creature that big. Now if it was a pack of killer whales vs a megalodon that may even the odds alittle.
I would take the killer whale, but the circumsatnces would have to be perfect for the great white. As in it is beneath the orca and does its ambush attack, I think its bite could kill an orca the orca does have echolocation so that might not work either. But under any other circumstances the orca would win. Great whites are smarter than they are given, but the orca is much smarter. And the 1997 attack was some evudence that orcas do know how to hunt sharks.
Na because if u look up this video a killer whale fliped a great white over and ate it I think. And I was reading in a book that this scientist saw a pod of killer whales flip a great white in tha air like a beach ball
A face to face confrontation with a Great white with the same size will end up deadly for the whale coz the great white has 100 times more "bite force" and way sharper teeths, the whale would bleed to death....the only way the whale would wins this, is when he grabs the shark backstabbing ;)
@shacks29 I respect your belief that the shark would win, but I suggest you stop telling stories. You can't say "with same size", because they're not. Size favors the orca. You can't change that. You can't say the great white's bite is stronger because nobody knows how strong the orca's bite is. The whale could win in many ways:
1. Induce tonic immobility by holding the shark upside-down and drowning it.
2. Breaking the spine with its tail.
3. Ram the shark's nose and crush the cartilage skull.
Telling Stories? Dude all said is based on facts unlike your 1,2,3 guessings.
Yes I can say the bite force is bigger than the orcas bite force, coz its recorded everywhere that a great white has the biggest bite force of ALL animals.
About the size, an Orca is not a blue whale or something so the size is not that different, a Orca is mostly 16–26 ft and a Great White at his biggest 20 ft so its possible that a 18ft GW meets an 18ft Orca.
@shacks29 Putting them at the same size is giving the smaller animal an unfair advantage. The only way it would be fair is a large male orca against a large female great white. No, the great white shark DOESN'T have the strongest bite of any animal (that title is held by the Nile and Saltwater crocodiles by a long shot). WHERE on Earth does it say the shark has the strongest bite? And again, the orca's bite has never been measured. For all anyone knows, it could be stronger.
@shacks29 Another thing for your argument on the shark having "100 times more 'bite force'" and "the biggest bite force of ALL animals", you clearly have not researched enough. Or you are telling stories again.
Great white shark bite: 1700lbs.
Brown bear bite: 1800lbs.
Hippopotamus bite: 2400lbs.
American Alligator bite: 3000lbs.
Nile Crocodile bite: 4000lbs.
Orca bite: Unknown.
Exactly how do you think a shark would beat a bigger, stronger, faster and smarter orca with much higher stamina?
Killer Whale is more versatile, it can turn around inverted on the dime. It's smarter hence it's preference to travel in packs while stalking food. It has sonar that allows it to comminicate with it's peers while in route occasionally shutting it off upon mounting a stealthy sneak attack. It isn't as agile as the shark and it may lack those electrical senses. But speed, smarts and power gives it the advantage!!! ORCA!!!
Killer whales are actually dolphins, whom can normally kill sharks. Killer whales (or Orca Dolphins), can obliterate sharks. It's obvious that the orca will win
Also...on one instance a a killer whale killed a great white. The rest of the pod was out number by the great whites but the great whites quit there feeding on sea lions and fled.
Im 50/50 with who would win I think it would depend on the situation and while the Killer whale is Bigger I think the Great White is more ferocious so I think the fight could go either way
It actually happened of californias coast. The killer whale knocked the great white shark on its back, then held it until it died, since great whites need constant movement to live. Then the whale ate the shark..
I think killer whales are the more wussier species because they hunt in faimly groups and arent usually solitary hunters while great whites usually hunt alone. If the situation that a killer whale was alone and lost it's way from it's pod and encountered a hungry great white shark, let's just say both the orca and the white were both the same size, about 20 feet the animals would probably avoid each other. But if a fight between the animals occurred, the orca would not stand a chance.
@connorox11 Orcas aren't always in pods, but when they are they hunt larger prey, like whale sharks and young whales, but sharks stick to prey smaller than themselves, like seals and small dolphins. And like Hurley said, a fight like this has occurred before and was witnessed near the coast of California. Truth be told, it's the shark that would have no chance to win this. They're scarier to people because of their looks and movies like Jaws, but the orca would win virtually any fight like this.
@connorox11 An orca is anything but a wuss. They execute the boldest and riskiest hunting trick of any marine animal; they intentionally beach themselves to catch seals and penguins. They know that it could cost them their lives if they get stuck on the shore. They are smart enough, however, to know how to do this safely. Sharks don't ever even go after prey larger than themselves; they're too cowardly and they lack the intelligence to do this. Orcas are a lot of things, but they're not chicken.
The only reason people would think the shark would win is because, ever since the first ever summer blockbuster (Jaws) was released, people have feared sharks, even though they rarely kill any more than four or five people annually. People don't fear killer whales because they don't attack humans hardly at all. Maybe orcas are too smart to attack a smarter species. It's still unclear why they don't, but we are lucky. They are dangerous animals. Even bear remains can be found in their stomachs.
Well, let's see. Killer whales are bigger, stronger, smarter, faster and have more stamina than the sharks. The only advantage the shark has is the ability to breathe underwater, but this is of little importance since the whales spend their whole lives in water anyway. The whales also have a powerful headbutt and they know how to kill prey by ramming it and breaking the ribcage. Sharks prey almost exclusively on little seals. Killer whales get their name because they're whale killers. Orca wins.
I would think there is a definitive answer, but it appears not so. The Orca depends on strategy and very good plans. But Orca's also depend on plans including hunting in packs. One on one, I'm going with the shark.
The sharks suck at turning around. They can only charge forward and upwards... one good pump-fake by the Orca and boom! All it has to do is pretend it's running then turn around in a clever fake-out to bite the shark. If the Shark comes from below flip over and tear into it's stomach. Killer Whales are capable of such a feat. Sharks aren't, all they know is that one technique. Plus the whales are FASTER. The ONLY advantage sharks have are their electrical senses and smell.
No brainer. Do a search and you'll see that orcas commonly hunt and eat Great Whites. I'm sure a great white could take a young orca, but I doubt it'd happen, just cause orcas are very protective and very adept at killing sharks. Supposedly they even know how to bump them, turn them over, causing them to fall asleep....they hardly even fight back.
If you are basing it on appearance then yes a lot of people will say the shark.Fact is, orca's have been known to kill great whites not the either way around.Killer whales are bigger and much smarter than sharks also.It really all depends on the angle of attack, if one catches the other one by surprise then it could be over.I would put my money on an orca 9/10 times!!
@mooreharry060 U no what it's just my opinion BTW compare my thumbs up to yours see the dif ALSO I've seen JAW 1,2 and 3 before IT'S JUST A MOVIE!! Sorry for my manners I have a bad temper...
@LordKamuro True, the smarter creature would flee and try to avoid a fight if it couldn't win, but the killer whale is smart enough to know that he can win and figure out how to do it. They don't necessarily go after great whites commonly, but the killer whale is still the apex predator of the natural world. They eat sharks for breakfast. Even the remains of bears have been found in their stomachs.
@cockerspanielowner Err...wrong. Killer whales hunt in pods, sometimes there can be up to 150 in a pod, that gives the shark a huge disadvantage, as the shark hunts on it s own and you cannot compare the two. Its like a pride of lions on one zebra :/
There is one killer whale known to hunt sharks by itself. A 25 yr old female, with no problem at all killing the shark. They don't need to be in pods to kill a sharks of any kind. Research it for your self...
A land mammal in shallow water against the shark would probably win, easily. Why? Sharks have no hands! They'd have no way of escaping a grip of a land mammal (predator of course). Unless it's in deep water where the mammal would have no chance.
Already been proven. The Orca (killer whale) would win. The orca knows how to grab the shark so they’re no threat and hold them still in the water roughly 15 min, and suffocates the great white shark to death, than commences eating.
If I was a killer whale i would beat the crap out of a great white. If I was a prehostoric killer whale I would get my pod and beat the crap out of megalodon.
Look around. There are now a few recorded instances of showdowns between these two. The one thing they all have in common is the outcome. In the end the answer was very anticlimactic. Even large Great Whites were destroyed within seconds. Game over.
I have seen an ACTUAL fight on NatGeo/Animal Planet between an Orca and a GW. It was not really a fight. The Orca came up with great speed from under the great white and torpedoed it. The Orca killed the GW with a surprise attack. It was rare footage and I thought this was it.
Killer whale is WAY bigger, smarter and faster... you show me a single instance of a Great White taking out a normal healthy Orca and I'll eat my hat!
haven't any of you guys heard of the killer whale attack on a great white in 1997!?? The killer whale might have learned tonic immobility and used it on the shark. (if you don't know what tonic immobility is look it up) Plus, the orca was by itself when it attacked the shark!! so i'm going with killer whale!!
this fight depends. whoever bites first wins. plain and simple. the shark has sharper and more rows of teeth. like my comment a year ago sharks often attack underneath or swim around their prey. there have been killer whales found dead with shark bites in them. it depends whoever bites first. a single bite can kill a great white easily but the shark can bite the larger whale and regardless if the whale fights back its gonna die of blood loss. a sharks bites is often lethal even to the biggest
@malikc6 Killer whales are not only bigger, faster, and stronger, they are smarter as well. Great whites are solitary whereas killer whales hunt in packs. I doubt a single shark could land an offensive strike on a killer whale... especially when the killer whale usually will have buddies to back him/her up.
@malikc6 An average orca is about twice the size/weight/power of an average great white. In nature, size does make a difference. If you look at the largest recorded specimens of each species ever witnessed, the largest orca (bull) is over 3x larger AND 3x heavier than the largest great white. I'd say the great white doesn't really stand much of a chance.
@bliss0512 it doesnt stand much of a chance but however a bite from a great white can kill a orca. one bite finishes one another off. besides there have been whales found dead with shark bites in them.
@Asiats1 think again! killer whales are obviously much larger and heavier than sharks. and even though sharks are terrifying, they still cant beat the killer whale
Even though killer whales eat great white sharks for food, it is still very dangerous for them to hunt sharks. They would generally avoid each other b/c neither wants to risk injury. But if they do fight, an orca would win
yes John09 but there are good sites about sharks on the net too. try the likesharks site. type likesharks into google and it should be the 4th or 5th result. the site has lots of info videos and pictures on each species and different reports about shark attacks etc
although the shark has more teeth that are sharper and has great and i mean great agility, the killer while travels in pods, not a lone this advantage leaves the shark defensless
Obviously a killer whale. Sharks are on their food chain. That would be like to say who would win, a human or a dog (in a fight to the death). It would be a tough fight, but 8-10 a human would win.
i love sharks and i hope they whould win but their speed and everything dead on killer whale but I <3 SHARKS!! and gg8689 is right SHARKS WIN FOR SEXINESS !!
@jugganought: "50/50". W-R-O-N-G. As a herding social animal LIVING IN GROUPS - not JUST "group hunters" sharks cannot "ambush" a herd or pack of orcas because they can't "sneak" up on a lone orca without being noticed by another orca in the pack.
The orca's higher swim speed all so means it's tail muscle is several magnitude stronger than the shark's, being able to propel a heavier body at higher speed. So in a fight the orca's tail bash would also be a serious concern. To sum it up, the orca is larger, heavier, faster, can bite, ram, tail bash, has sonar and is more intelligent to boot. The shark can bite really well and that's pretty much it. It's really a no contest.
@trungnasa Well stated. Orcas are my favorite animal. One thing I'd like to remind other people though is that Orcas aren't whales, they're the largest species of dolphins. And I've always thought that a bull sperm whale would be capable of taking on a Megalodon.
@Spud13ify They say Megalodon ate Whales. Ones as big as a Sperm Whale. The sperm whale does not have any defence against it, it would be ripped in half by the Megalodon.
@ojideagu No defense? You kiddin me? First, the most powerful sonar, ever. Allowing the whale to see the shark miles away. Second, focusing the sonar into a tight beam and possibly stunning it and allowing the whale to ram it like a locomotive. Third?, using it's giant lower teeth to rip into the Meg as easily as it could. Whales and reptiles developed into ocean predators just as powerful as sharks so think before you speak.
@Spud13ify Are you serious? Nobody knows why the Sperm whale even has teeth, they are not even used for hunting squid and are blunt. The Megalodon had even more powerful jaws then a T-rex.
The Sperm whale uses sonar for smaller animals. It's very unlikely it could damage an animal the size of Megalodon. The Sperm whale only has a chance to ram at long range . If it's attacked close range by the Megalodon it would be ripped in half. The Sperm whale would have no way of backing up to Ram.
@Spud13ify Fossil evidence proves Megalodon Ate Sperm whales. Quote from Wikipedia:
Fossil evidence indicates that C. Megalodon preyed upon cetaceans (i.e., dolphins, small whales, and LARGE WHALES, (including SPERM WHALES, Bowhead whales....."
Only a 30 ton sperm whale is capable of this... the female whale is toast. That said you've impressed me with that knowledge of sonar, I've under-estimated the giant spem whale... I thought the legendary Megalodon would win but the sonar beam you mentioned plus a cool stun kills it. My compliments.
The shark does have an amazing bite force, true, but an orca's bite force hsn't exactly been measured, and if it's up for a bet I'd bet on the orca being at least an equal. But if you want to speak weapons, the orca's larger mass and higher speed means it's a more effective rammer (a shark doesn't really ram, one because if it can face the enemy it'd rather bite, and two because it's nose bones are kinda weak, while ramming is one of the orca's primary atacks)
1. the killer whale was nicknamed killer whale because its the only whale that hunts
2. the killer whale would win one on one mainly because of its intelligence to figure out preys weakness's like the orca has figured out that when sharks turn on there back they go to sleep it has a name but i couldnt be bothered wrighting it down
3.there are videos all over utube showing orcas killing white sharks andhow they do it..etc
Killer Whales hunt in a pack, Great White Sharks are loners. A pack of Killer Whales can eat a Great White. 1 on 1, a Great White would win. Megalodons were the top predators of all time... nobody knows how it went extinct or if it is even extinct. Megalodons can eat T.rex and Blue Whales because of their size and the fact that they have the strongest bite force ever known( T. rex has the second strongest bite force). They cannot be compared to killer whales because they are too strong!
@Baderwe huh, how do u make sure that megalodons ever lived long time ago?? n if it lived n extinct, it extinct bcoz, the KILLER WHALES killed those megalodons that's so shit annoying.....! so KILLER WHALES r the BEST....
@Baderwe megalodons are the greatest predator of all time, and a lone megalodon can possibly take on even a small pod of orcas, but great whites aren't megalodons. Discounting their superior intelligence, orcas are generally larger (the average orca is 22-24 ft long, while the average shark is only 16-18 ft and it is still a matter of DEBATE wether a 20+ft shark exist). Orcas are also faster, able to swim at over 30 knots vs. the shark's 20 knots topspeed. Pretty much a no contest, really
lol at the start of the video only the little kids said shark

@cockerspanielowner smater creatue run away if cant win, smartless creature fight till the death, this is the great white..
LordKamuro 5 months ago
@LordKamuro True, the smarter creature would flee and try to avoid a fight if it couldn't win, but the killer whale is smart enough to know that he can win and figure out how to do it. They don't necessarily go after great whites commonly, but the killer whale is still the apex predator of the natural world. They eat sharks for breakfast. Even the remains of bears have been found in their stomachs.
NavyDogfish 4 months ago
@cockerspanielowner Err...wrong. Killer whales hunt in pods, sometimes there can be up to 150 in a pod, that gives the shark a huge disadvantage, as the shark hunts on it s own and you cannot compare the two. Its like a pride of lions on one zebra :/
CheifSmokinDank 4 months ago
@CheifSmokinDank zebra is not a predator so thats not a good example.
I think pride of lions vs cheeta is much better to say
CasinoMafiaBoy 4 months ago
@CheifSmokinDank

TheHm3 6 months ago
They allso have a long penis
TheChelseaFEVER 6 months ago
Already been proven. The Orca (killer whale) would win. The orca knows how to grab the shark so they’re no threat and hold them still in the water roughly 15 min, and suffocates the great white shark to death, than commences eating.

Look around. There are now a few recorded instances of showdowns between these two. The one thing they all have in common is the outcome. In the end the answer was very anticlimactic. Even large Great Whites were destroyed within seconds. Game over.
joediver1119 6 months ago
well no shit. shark has no chance at all being 1/3 of the size of an orca, slower AND dumber. they have absolutely no reason to interact tho.
its like asking who would win, a lion or a brown bear.
same history, bear 3 times as big, bear wins.

I have seen an ACTUAL fight on NatGeo/Animal Planet between an Orca and a GW. It was not really a fight. The Orca came up with great speed from under the great white and torpedoed it. The Orca killed the GW with a surprise attack. It was rare footage and I thought this was it.

(if you don't know what tonic immobility is look it up) Plus, the orca was by itself when it attacked the shark!! so i'm going with killer whale!!

whales. even mega giant whales like the blue whale and the humpback sometimes die after 2 or 3 bites on their bodies. blood loss and shock.
malikc6 8 months ago
this fight depends. whoever bites first wins. plain and simple. the shark has sharper and more rows of teeth. like my comment a year ago sharks often attack underneath or swim around their prey. there have been killer whales found dead with shark bites in them. it depends whoever bites first. a single bite can kill a great white easily but the shark can bite the larger whale and regardless if the whale fights back its gonna die of blood loss. a sharks bites is often lethal even to the biggest
malikc6 8 months ago
@malikc6 Killer whales are not only bigger, faster, and stronger, they are smarter as well. Great whites are solitary whereas killer whales hunt in packs. I doubt a single shark could land an offensive strike on a killer whale... especially when the killer whale usually will have buddies to back him/her up.
bliss0512 7 months ago
@bliss0512 im talking one on one. not a pack to back him or her up.
malikc6 7 months ago
@malikc6 An average orca is about twice the size/weight/power of an average great white. In nature, size does make a difference. If you look at the largest recorded specimens of each species ever witnessed, the largest orca (bull) is over 3x larger AND 3x heavier than the largest great white. I'd say the great white doesn't really stand much of a chance.
bliss0512 7 months ago
@bliss0512 it doesnt stand much of a chance but however a bite from a great white can kill a orca. one bite finishes one another off. besides there have been whales found dead with shark bites in them.
malikc6 7 months ago
@malikc6 I agree there have been whales found dead, but they weren't orcas. They were docile whales, mostly grey whale calves.
bliss0512 7 months ago
Killer Whales are coward because they rely on numbers. 1 on 1, a Shark would PWN a Killer Whale.

But if they do fight, an orca would win

killer whales are group hunters tho, and the sharks an ambush striker but at the same times its a lone hunter so I say this is 50/50
jugganought 9 months ago
@jugganought: "50/50". W-R-O-N-G. As a herding social animal LIVING IN GROUPS - not JUST "group hunters" sharks cannot "ambush" a herd or pack of orcas because they can't "sneak" up on a lone orca without being noticed by another orca in the pack.
Try doing some simple research next time.
lukebccb 9 months ago
@lukebccb kinda sure this is a killer whale Vs a great white shark, not a great white shark vs a pod of killer whales but thats just me
jugganought 9 months ago
The orca's higher swim speed all so means it's tail muscle is several magnitude stronger than the shark's, being able to propel a heavier body at higher speed. So in a fight the orca's tail bash would also be a serious concern. To sum it up, the orca is larger, heavier, faster, can bite, ram, tail bash, has sonar and is more intelligent to boot. The shark can bite really well and that's pretty much it. It's really a no contest.
trungnasa 9 months ago
@trungnasa Well stated. Orcas are my favorite animal. One thing I'd like to remind other people though is that Orcas aren't whales, they're the largest species of dolphins. And I've always thought that a bull sperm whale would be capable of taking on a Megalodon.
Spud13ify 9 months ago
@Spud13ify They say Megalodon ate Whales. Ones as big as a Sperm Whale. The sperm whale does not have any defence against it, it would be ripped in half by the Megalodon.
ojideagu 9 months ago
@ojideagu No defense? You kiddin me? First, the most powerful sonar, ever. Allowing the whale to see the shark miles away. Second, focusing the sonar into a tight beam and possibly stunning it and allowing the whale to ram it like a locomotive. Third?, using it's giant lower teeth to rip into the Meg as easily as it could. Whales and reptiles developed into ocean predators just as powerful as sharks so think before you speak.
Spud13ify 9 months ago

@Spud13ify Who said whales and Dolphins are NOT predators. The name Killer whale is a clue.
Reptiles are probably the most well known predators in history. So I don't know why you're even making an issue about it.
ojideagu 9 months ago
@Spud13ify
Wallcrawler 3 months ago
The shark does have an amazing bite force, true, but an orca's bite force hsn't exactly been measured, and if it's up for a bet I'd bet on the orca being at least an equal. But if you want to speak weapons, the orca's larger mass and higher speed means it's a more effective rammer (a shark doesn't really ram, one because if it can face the enemy it'd rather bite, and two because it's nose bones are kinda weak, while ramming is one of the orca's primary atacks)
trungnasa 9 months ago
orcas win prove on this video "!!KILLER WHALE VS GREAT WHITE SHARK!!"
Migguls611 9 months ago
1. the killer whale was nicknamed killer whale because its the only whale that hunts
2. the killer whale would win one on one mainly because of its intelligence to figure out preys weakness's like the orca has figured out that when sharks turn on there back they go to sleep it has a name but i couldnt be bothered wrighting it down
3.there are videos all over utube showing orcas killing white sharks andhow they do it..etc

Baderwe 9 months ago
@Baderwe huh, how do u make sure that megalodons ever lived long time ago?? n if it lived n extinct, it extinct bcoz, the KILLER WHALES killed those megalodons that's so shit annoying.....! so KILLER WHALES r the BEST....
Raldycool 9 months ago
@Baderwe megalodons are the greatest predator of all time, and a lone megalodon can possibly take on even a small pod of orcas, but great whites aren't megalodons. Discounting their superior intelligence, orcas are generally larger (the average orca is 22-24 ft long, while the average shark is only 16-18 ft and it is still a matter of DEBATE wether a 20+ft shark exist). Orcas are also faster, able to swim at over 30 knots vs. the shark's 20 knots topspeed. Pretty much a no contest, really
trungnasa 9 months ago
not only are Orca's (Killer Whales) Fast ....and strong , but unlike Sharks .......they do have Brains to think and plot a Strategy
Orca's have a more Friendly nature to most Animals.......eh Humans
