Although the Semi-truck appears to be completely exonerated from this accident. I'll bet my bottom dollar someone tries to get subregation from that carrier...And I'll bet that the state police gave that driver the "million question" routine. I live here in Illinois and run a small trucking co. I know how they like to get down!

I drove by this wreck on the Northbound as I was going to Romeoville to pick up a load headed for Wisconsin. This is one of the worst Truck vs. Passenger vehicle crashes I've seen and it seemingly happened for no reason.

I honestly don't see how this could have been a head on collision. The headlights on the pickup are still perfectly aligned and have no damage. The rest of the pickup though does.

That was a bad stretch of I-55. The roadway was 4 lanes and the median was only 30 feet wide without barriers. Now they made I-55 6 lanes with a 4 foot high concrete central barrier on that stretch from I-80 to Weber road.

The other car hit mom and dad's Lincoln with so much force that it crumpled into about the length of a Civic Hatch back...They of course died instantly.. My Nephew was also in the car...at the time he was 12... He survived...but barely.. I was told that he tried to shake his grandma and grandpa to wake them up...

My parents died in a way similar to this...They were coming southbound on hwy 99 California, there was another car coming Northbound on 99.. There are oleander bushes separating the NB and SB lanes.. The NB car crossed over the oleander bushes, went airborne and landed on the hood of my parents' car..that was in 1993 but it still seems like yesterday.. My condolences to the families of the involved here... I know how they feel

The reason why the semi's frame didnt help the driver survive against the lightwieght truck is the truck hit the semi above the frame into the hood area and killed them both.

A semi is a big, strong, HEAVY vehicle. Special considerations must be given when negotiating around such a vehicle because semis can't maneuver very fast without the driver losing control.

We have a diesel connecting rod at the autoshop and it does even fit in a ford V6 block, the part where the pin goes into the piston stops it. a Buddy put his Ford diesel 420 engine on a stand rated for 1000 pounds and it bent it like it was wire. Cannt imagine how much a semi engine weighs!!!

@cnrails Wouldn't take but a couple days to shut factories down, by the 3rd day the grocery stores shelves would be bare, schools, returaunts would be without food to cook, trash would over flow, gas stations would be outa gas. But every body hates us truckers. Just remember, if it wasn't for ships, trains, cargo planes and trucks all your lifestyles would be over within two weeks!!!!!

I was a truck driver and got tired of getting no repect and a handful of bullshit parking tickets for stopping and getting some sleep. You are preaching to the choir on this topic. I wish every trucker still out there would stop the truck. Trucks have to stay in the right lane (the bumpy one) so that the 90MPH 4 wheelers can fly by. Look at what I said closer you will see. @hunterziegelmann That truck is all fiberglass......the doors are metal, but the fenders and hood = fiberglass. Older model trucks have steel /metal but most trucks today are fiberglass for lighter weight and aerodynamics.

My parents were driving an 88 Lincoln Town Car. A good size car... The other car hit mom and dad's Lincoln with so much force that it crumpled into about the length of a Civic Hatch back...They of course died instantly.. My Nephew was also in the car...at the time he was 12... He survived...but barely.. I was told that he tried to shake his grandma and grandpa to wake them up...

My parents died in a way similar to this...They were coming southbound on hwy 99 California, there was another car coming Northbound on 99.. There are oleander bushes separating the NB and SB lanes.. The NB car crossed over the oleander bushes, went airborne and landed on the hood of my parents' car..that was in 1993 but it still seems like yesterday.. My condolences to the families of the involved here... I know how they feel

The reason why the semi's frame didnt help the driver survive against the lightwieght truck is the truck hit the semi above the frame into the hood area and killed them both.

A semi is a big, strong, HEAVY vehicle. Special considerations must be given when negotiating around such a vehicle because semis can't maneuver very fast without the driver losing control.

@chaingang666420 Not only does that truck weigh a hell of a lot, but it also has to have the balls to move that much weight. We have a diesel connecting rod at the autoshop and it does even fit in a ford V6 block, the part where the pin goes into the piston stops it. a Buddy put his Ford diesel 420 engine on a stand rated for 1000 pounds and it bent it like it was wire. Cannt imagine how much a semi engine weighs!!!
