I heard opposing viewpoints on him from various blogs and entertainment sites. There are people who describe him as being very nice and congenial to fans, and there are others who say he's arrogant and pompous and sarcastic. I used to think he was the former, but after hearing him on radio shows whining about how nobody will review this CD and expressing anger at criticism of it I'm now leaning towards the latter description.
I've heard opposing views as well and, despite having been an admirer of his for a long time, have had my doubts when I've seen cetain clips. But to decide that he isn't a nice guy is to dismiss the opinion of every other actor in TNG - and, after all, they actually know him. He's obviously very bright and, I think, he sometimes lacks people skills when it comes to dealing with people who aren't any way near as clever as he is (I'm not excusing it, just attempting to understand it.) :)
I guess it's up to the individual to decide whether he's nice or not. Some people think that when he says that he's joking but it's highly possible he's not.
yeah, I came to the same conclusion before, that the joke is- that he´s not joking (hope u understand)^^but at least he doesn´t make fun of his fans like others do^^ I love him, his work, his acting, singing, humour... but sure he s.times acts a little "ego"- who cares, nobody´s perfect!
don´t we all have both sides in us, too?! and Lore wasn´t "bad" he felt pain for beeing rejected by his father - hello- read his biography and look at pics of him and his "wife" he doesn´t seem happy at all...
that´s the only point where the rumors start^^ some say Loree is his wife, some say not. but after searching through some sites I think they are married
He's very guarded about his personal life but regardless of whether they are married or not he has a partner, Loree McBride, and a seven-year-old son named Jackson.
Apparently Brent Spiner has a delicate ego, at least in connection with his magnum opus "Dreamland." He actually takes to heart comments on YouTube! In a radio interview he lashes out at anyone who dares make negative remarks about his cd, deriding their comments as "stupidity" and "dumb." I had no idea he's so full of himself, although I've heard tales of his diva-like behavior on various blogs and fansites. In that interview he sounded like a big, whiny baby.
I thought he was totally gorgeous when the next generation first aired when I was 13 - and if anything he looks better now! They both sing wonderfully.
Simply Beautiful! This is romance at it's best. Just sit back on a sofa and listen. It's only 50 minutes! I agree with the other posters that Brent Spiner has a magnificent voice (singing and speaking).
The mixer talks about being surprised at the fact that they got songs down in one take, but, to me, that's just what I'd expect. Spiner was trained as a theatre actor first and foremost, so the notion of having only one shot at getting a good performance must be hard-wired into him by this point. There's no second-to-fifty-fourth take in theatre. You either hit the mark every night... or you don't.
RivaJane: "Dad I'd Like To F***". And... yeah. Totally. And if I though for one second that I could actually look him in the face and keep even one iota of my shit together, I might even consider trying. XD
Totally agree with you! He's so handsome and funny, and he seems like a total sweetie. I meant to give this one a thumbs-up, but I accidentally clicked thumbs-down, dang it! Ah well - I can give you a double thumbs-up in this comment! Brent Spiner rocks!

I don't know, maybe it's because I'm still head over heels for a younger him, but he is.. rather.. sexy to me.
Girlfriend, Michelle, and I caught up with her @ the ocean side Colony Hotel in Palm Beach last summer for an A++++ show second to none!! Those who say traditional Americana is passe are all wet! Maude swims with the best of them and with a sea of mediocrity out there, her voice and style rise above the din and into the heavens.
Why do people turn these comments into nasty little spats? Nothing better to do than come here repeatedly to spread the bad vibes? I personally think this looks interesting or at least refreshing. Not just another "standards album". At least somebody's thinking outside the box. And more power to him for having a great singer like Maude Maggart on board. I'm sure she wouldn't be involved if it weren't good. She's the real deal.
cynthia: I don't know if you were meaning to be funny, but people who appear to be friendly to others for the sole purpose of drawing them in so they can hurt them need help. Regardless of whether you are a psychopath or not, I think you should know that engaging in that kind of activity makes you *look* just like one.
I don't know what you mean: "people who appear to be friendly to others for the sole purpose of drawing them in so they can hurt them"? Are you kidding? I did nothing of the sort. I'm not trying to make friends with anybody here. I'm just commenting on an ill-advised musical trifle. If you think that's "psycho", well, I think you've got some fairly serious mental issues yourself.
Look, if what I said offended you I apologize. But you were out of line calling me a psycho. There are plenty of them on YouTube, but I don't fall into that category. I'd say I'm merely opinionated. But that seems to set a lot of people off here, especially males. Well, I can't help it, I have strongly held views and I express them.

His singing makes me laugh until I'm in danger of wetting my pants ("entertaining" doesn't always necessarily have to be "good"). But only sometimes. And the babies seem to like it. But I do want to get a copy of that "To Know You is To Love You" from this one, because it sounds like something my younger son would really like.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
From watching this video it appears that Maude Maggart's voice completely overpowers Brent Spiner's, due to the way the songs are recorded. Her vocals are layered over his like spackle. Why did he want to bring Maude Maggart into this, anyway? Is he so insecure about his own singing ability that he brought her in to draw attention away from his own vocals? Whatever the reason, it was a mistake. "Dreamland" seems more like a Maude Maggart record than a Brent Spiner record.
Why doe this person continually come back to comment in the negative? If you don't like it go away, no one is forcing you to listen to this great work!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is by no stretch of the imagination a "great work". I'm actually a fan of Spiner's; I was looking forward to a new recording by him. I wanted to hear more of HIS singing. Instead he puts out a novelty cd that prominently features the vocals of a "cabaret" singer (I am not a fan of cabaret singers). This record is a major disappointment for me. I'm not buying it.
I don't think he's insecure cynthia. I don't think he would keep singing if he knew how "entertaining" it can be sometimes. :D I just think he's trying to be retro, except that the wayback machine in his head is perpetually stuck on 1932. Every time he gets in, that's where we all end up. Nineteen thirty freakin' two. Brent Spiner fans deal with it. Everyone else gets fed up after a minute and goes off after George Clooney. :D
If he's not insecure about his own singing, why did he do everything on this CD to divert the listener from the sound of his voice? He doesn't make a straight CD of himself singing; he does some kind of 40's style radio play/audio film/concept album thing. It has Mark Hamill doing funny voices and the "brilliant, spectacular" Maude Maggart, whose vocal presence is equal to, if not surpassing his own. Why do many diversions from his own vocalizing? That's what I would like to know.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Just expressing my opinion. And this isn't "new"; it derives from the radio shows of a long gone era. Why would he think anybody would want to hear anything like that in this day and age? I don't get it. Did he really think this would be popular? I think what he came up with is just weird.
There is a market for everything and anything, especially stuff that is well-done. Don't discount something's viability just because you, personally, may not "get it." True, radio plays (and audio productions in the same style) may not have held up as well in the present market as some things, but they are still popular and still valid.
I "get" it. I just don't LIKE it. If I want to listen to music of this sort (and I DO like music from other eras) I will listen to music FROM that era, not a remake of it. Artists like Rod Stewart and Carly Simon and LInda Ronstadt have put out albums of old standards and I don't like them either. I'd rather hear them do what they're best at (rock, pop, country), instead trying to "croon." But I love Leon Redbone and all he does is interpret old songs. He's very good at it; most aren't.
*the entirety of the Brent Spiner Estrogen Brigade starts screaming hysterically* omigodnewcdwherecanibuyithowmuchdoyouwantforit i'llpayanything... I will give him this - sotto voce is a definite improvement over that Ethel Merman/Judy Garland squawk he usually breaks into at the higher decibel levels (with notable exceptions - ppl who know me know what I'm talking about). He's definitely one fine daddy, though. :D
@SnarkLicker "The Brent Spiner Estrogen Brigade." That's pretty funny. And totally accurate. His fans appear to be exclusively middle-aged women who think he's "hot."
@Raea714 Really? Why do you say that? I get the distinct impression that his fans are older women. Why would women young enough to be his granddaughter think he's "hot?" He's a very average looking 60-something year old guy, grey hair, bags under the eyes, etc. I thought he was semi-cute during the ST:TNG days but that was a LONG time ago.
@cynthiacher Finding someone attractive is always a matter of taste. Personally, I think Brent has the whole package: looks, talent, intelligence, charisma, etc. I say most of his fans are young because if you search for Brent fan tributes here on YT or for fan websites and you look at the creator’s profiles, most of them are in their 20’s (like me, though just barely lol). I also feel he has gotten more attractive as he has aged. However, that is my taste and everyone has their own opinion.
@Raea714 Right ON Spinersistah! Brent has it all. His pure masculine charisma makes me quiver. I think his true fans range all ages. We celebrate everything he does because he does it so well.
Why are we so down on the guy with the beard? Guy with the beard can come be in my shot, we'll even go have a round of shots, then maybe go get our flu shots. That's how much I'm about the beard guy and shots. Mr. Spiner has a very pleasant singing voice, but I bet the guy who played Lore is MUCH nicer. :>D
Must it be a competition? Maude Maggart is a great singer and Fiona Apple is a great singer and composer too. They are both great at what they do, each in their own way.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I honesty don't think there's a wide audience for this, a "concept" album consisting of spoken dialogue and standards done in the style of the era in which they first appeared. I'm sure Brent Spiner's fans would be interested, which is why he'll be selling it at all the conventions.
I'm really looking forward to listening to 'Dreamland'. The idea of creating an audio film is a brilliant idea! Based on what I've heard thus far, I think it's the sort of sophisticated entertainment that our society could use much more of. It's refreshing to see that the concept of traditional romance, *genuine* love and happiness still exist. Kudos to Mr. Spiner and all of whom collaborated to make 'Dreamland' possible!
1:48 made me want to have that cd =)

This album is superb!I`ve never heard anything like this........and the extra plus is that BRENT SPINER sings here!!!!!!!I`m impressed.
vera1989 3 years ago 2
I don't think Brent's die hard-fans are obsessed, but some of them are pretty close.
Anyways, it's a nice album.
I bought it because of the concept itself, not many records like this around these days.
And he'll probably sell tons, thanks to all his fans. But I'm sure he would prefer people buying it for the music and not just for him.

Anyone else have anymore Maude Maggart videos? I love her!
archer1949 3 years ago 2
Maude is fabulous!
Jeph629 3 years ago 3
I agree!!!
I have seen her many times and will not miss one of her shows if possible.
She will be back at The Colony soon.

where can i actually find this cd?

Why do people turn these comments into nasty little spats? Nothing better to do than come here repeatedly to spread the bad vibes? I personally think this looks interesting or at least refreshing. Not just another "standards album". At least somebody's thinking outside the box. And more power to him for having a great singer like Maude Maggart on board. I'm sure she wouldn't be involved if it weren't good. She's the real deal.

Spiner's fans seem rather...OBSESSED. He could have put out an album consisting of his burps and farts and they'd buy it.

cynthia: I don't know if you were meaning to be funny, but people who appear to be friendly to others for the sole purpose of drawing them in so they can hurt them need help. Regardless of whether you are a psychopath or not, I think you should know that engaging in that kind of activity makes you *look* just like one.
SnarkLicker 3 years ago
I don't know what you mean: "people who appear to be friendly to others for the sole purpose of drawing them in so they can hurt them"? Are you kidding? I did nothing of the sort. I'm not trying to make friends with anybody here. I'm just commenting on an ill-advised musical trifle. If you think that's "psycho", well, I think you've got some fairly serious mental issues yourself.
cynthiacher 3 years ago
Look, if what I said offended you I apologize. But you were out of line calling me a psycho. There are plenty of them on YouTube, but I don't fall into that category. I'd say I'm merely opinionated. But that seems to set a lot of people off here, especially males. Well, I can't help it, I have strongly held views and I express them.

I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,

His singing makes me laugh until I'm in danger of wetting my pants ("entertaining" doesn't always necessarily have to be "good"). But only sometimes. And the babies seem to like it. But I do want to get a copy of that "To Know You is To Love You" from this one, because it sounds like something my younger son would really like.

I absolutely love it! I love Btent's voice and they way he comes across in the video, and I also love everything else about it...YIKES!

I'm not buying it.
cynthiacher 3 years ago
I don't think he's insecure cynthia. I don't think he would keep singing if he knew how "entertaining" it can be sometimes. :D I just think he's trying to be retro, except that the wayback machine in his head is perpetually stuck on 1932. Every time he gets in, that's where we all end up. Nineteen thirty freakin' two. Brent Spiner fans deal with it. Everyone else gets fed up after a minute and goes off after George Clooney. :D
SnarkLicker 3 years ago
If he's not insecure about his own singing, why did he do everything on this CD to divert the listener from the sound of his voice? He doesn't make a straight CD of himself singing; he does some kind of 40's style radio play/audio film/concept album thing. It has Mark Hamill doing funny voices and the "brilliant, spectacular" Maude Maggart, whose vocal presence is equal to, if not surpassing his own. Why do many diversions from his own vocalizing? That's what I would like to know.
cynthiacher 3 years ago
Why to make a straight CD if you can do something completely new?
He is inclined quite strongly towards acting so why not to do a radio play or "musical of mind" where he can sing and act?
What is really your problem cynthiacher?
GambolingOlga 2 years ago 3

Just expressing my opinion. And this isn't "new"; it derives from the radio shows of a long gone era. Why would he think anybody would want to hear anything like that in this day and age? I don't get it. Did he really think this would be popular? I think what he came up with is just weird.
cynthiacher 2 years ago
It is new to make a CD like a radio play.
Radio plays are those things that are played in radio.
GambolingOlga 2 years ago
@cynthiacher
There is a market for everything and anything, especially stuff that is well-done. Don't discount something's viability just because you, personally, may not "get it." True, radio plays (and audio productions in the same style) may not have held up as well in the present market as some things, but they are still popular and still valid.
kittybirg 2 years ago

SnarkLicker 3 years ago
@SnarkLicker "The Brent Spiner Estrogen Brigade." That's pretty funny. And totally accurate. His fans appear to be exclusively middle-aged women who think he's "hot."
cynthiacher 1 year ago
@cynthiacher Actually, I think most of us die-hard fans are young enough to be his granddaughters. And that's because he IS hot. :)
Raea714 1 year ago 2
@Raea714 Really? Why do you say that? I get the distinct impression that his fans are older women. Why would women young enough to be his granddaughter think he's "hot?" He's a very average looking 60-something year old guy, grey hair, bags under the eyes, etc. I thought he was semi-cute during the ST:TNG days but that was a LONG time ago.
cynthiacher 1 year ago
@cynthiacher Finding someone attractive is always a matter of taste. Personally, I think Brent has the whole package: looks, talent, intelligence, charisma, etc. I say most of his fans are young because if you search for Brent fan tributes here on YT or for fan websites and you look at the creator’s profiles, most of them are in their 20’s (like me, though just barely lol). I also feel he has gotten more attractive as he has aged. However, that is my taste and everyone has their own opinion.
Raea714 1 year ago 7
@Raea714 Right ON Spinersistah! Brent has it all. His pure masculine charisma makes me quiver. I think his true fans range all ages. We celebrate everything he does because he does it so well.

I honesty don't think there's a wide audience for this, a "concept" album consisting of spoken dialogue and standards done in the style of the era in which they first appeared. I'm sure Brent Spiner's fans would be interested, which is why he'll be selling it at all the conventions.
cynthiacher 4 years ago
Brent has such a beautiful voice! I can't wait to get "Dreamland!"
BrentSpiner47 4 years ago
I'm really looking forward to listening to 'Dreamland'. The idea of creating an audio film is a brilliant idea! Based on what I've heard thus far, I think it's the sort of sophisticated entertainment that our society could use much more of. It's refreshing to see that the concept of traditional romance, *genuine* love and happiness still exist. Kudos to Mr. Spiner and all of whom collaborated to make 'Dreamland' possible!
