  • in 7th grade I did this and we did it at 170 because we could. it was so hard being 1st trumpet for this song. my fingers had cramps because they were moving so fast. and MHSMarchingBand, what does MHS stand for?

  • @musicman8488 Good for you! I hope you improved your skills greatly. MHS stands for Midland High School, out of Michigan.

  • my 8th grade band played this song. i think we took it at this tempo too haha. but we had 18 kids. so it wasnt as good as this version. but good job! i didnt really notice it wasnt 160 actually

  • I'm in concert band and I am playing this song. We are one of the best bands in America. I'm not even joking. We recently won first place at carnigie hall, and will be performing in disney world this year. I thought you guys perfomed very well.

  • Mann , our symphonic band plays this song ! [concert band doesn't do anything bc they don't play challenging music like us..] but its hard and fun !!!(:

  • I play bari sax. Were playing this now,we play it about this temple too maybe just a little faster though.Great piece, challeging in some areas.I love 35-44....

    Great Job,sounds great.

  • not too bad. my band is playing this in disney in a few months and were currently at 150 on the tempo. good job though

  • My band is playing that now. very fun song

  • very good

  • You guys performed excellently. I played this as a sophomore on trombone and every time I it gets stuck in my head I turn to this video. The only other thing I can say is 1-2-1-2-1-2-3.

  • This was the last song I ever played in high school band, and it is amoungst my top 5 of all time.

  • man this song is SO much fun XD I played the crash cymbal part and one of the woodblock parts in this last week for contest! We got a 2 (1 being the best 4 being ttly fail XD) but hard to learn in a way, but it's worth it!

  • the percussion seem to hv enthusiasm

  • man yall are lucky. my band is gettin ready to play it for festival and i have to cover all of percussion 2 (about 8 different things) then try and help out w perc 3 cause the person on that is a idiot

  • but yall are very accurate and really good balance. good job!

  • we are playing this for our concert season at Bradford High school at the 160 tempo. now granted we are still practicing this very much, but we are playing it at the recomended tempo.

  • Also, on the chromatic part where you go from the bottom of the second page to the top of the third....the last part was a bit "blatty" from the trumpets. But overall good balance and blend.

  • idc about tempo but you guys missed the cowbell sol (lol i knwo) in the 2/8 bar. either that or you ran through it too quick.

  • Yea, u guys r playing it a little slow. I'm not saying this to be mean, but our band at crestdale MIDDLE school plays it better. srry. had to say it.

  • A BIT ASSHOLEISH

  • Very fun song, we're doing it for festival this year. You guys are playing it sorta slow though : P

  • Yeah Talley Middle School is going to play this for spring :3 i sorta can't wait

  • hi sylvie. xD

  • we are going to be playing this song for the spring concert. i am in 8th grade

  • same here but i am in 9th grade

  • Awesome song, my High School band is ending our Christmas concert with this song. We just finished playing Jesu Joy of Mans Desiring, then BAM this song!

  • @lmdill3 hahaha thats really funny accualy

wait so who are you? u don't have to respond on this video but you can if you wan't.

this is Ben Morel by the way

  • yea i do, how did you know???

  • @superowl88 I'm in your band :)

  • my band is playing this this friday!!

  • Comment removed

  • @superowl88 Do you go to South?

  • Its sopposed to be at 160!!!!

  • ya our marching band played this song at 160.. its a really good song although i think it sounds better at a faster tempo..

  • My high school symphony band played this at the beginning of last year. And I think we might have played it a bit faster than 160. It didn't really sound fantastic. But we still had lots of fun with it. My band director is just a little bit psychotic :)

  • @saxophonefille:

LOL i TOTALY know what you mean when you say your band directors a little psychotic.

The low brass at 2:16 were pretty good, i give them special attention cause i play baritone(marching)/Euphonium.

and i love this song so much i memorized that part too

    lol band = my life

  • Not to brag but, at the school I go to, our eight graders play that song at the correct tempo(160). Truth be told, it's a lot better faster.

Our school went to state festival and the eight graders got all 1's except in sight reading which was a 2.

  • ya that was probably 150 for the tempo and i played this in the seventh grade lol

  • Didn't play it at the recommended tempo, but what high school band can play this at 160?

Good job nonetheless, was a very good performance.

  • You posted an excellent post: a positive critique that is very valid, but then made it more gentle by posting a...can't really think of what to call it...a rhetorical question...And then wrapped it up by congratulating us! If only everyone on youtube would post like that, not just whining about something they can't do.

Thank you for your post :)

  • @Polis4rule we do...but we practice ALOT, but i cant even play this...im trumpet 2

  • @Polis4rule Petal High School Symphonic Band in Petal MS from 2000

  • @Polis4rule We are, lol

  • @Polis4rule my band played this and i dont know what tempo it was but it was really fast! it was a really hard to do. this sounds good though.

  • @Polis4rule I went to a highschool honors festival this year, and we played it at 160. IT WAS SO HARD.

  • we're doing this piece in concert band

we had to make it slower because everyone's dim-witted and can't take the fast pace. Pssh.

  • i am waiting for this! I'm in a 7th/8thsymphonic

band we didn't get to it this yea but i hope to play it

in 8th grade next year!!!! funny thing is that our 8th graders are the ones to so no way! we did heartbeat five instead

i like the xylophone part! hoping that ill play it next year

  • That's cool! Its a good song!

The xyl part is pretty cool! So is the marimba part.

  • wait these are highschoolers?? were playing this song and im in 8th grade???

  • Some schools actually spend money on band programs and therefore have better bands...or it could be that y'all won't be playing it as well, but the director has decided that you'll play it well enough. Either one, you tell me :p

  • i hate how this piece is commissioned to a junior high school band. my junior high would never be able to play this. they must be excellent.

  • You ever look up Japanese concert and marching bands? Try it...you'll be even more mad :p

  • yeah...

they're just so dedicated to goals. >_>

  • Kudos to the trumpets and percussion; marvelous job. But still, WAYYYY too slow: D.D. is supposed to be 160 bpm

  • Not sure why we went slow...but then this isn't the best band, so I'm sure that was probably a factor...you never can tell the mind a director :p

  • haha, show me the "best band" and I'll be very impressed indeed.

I didn't mean to come off as judgmental in any way. Your band did an awesome job here, now that I take a second glance at this video.

  • this is our high school's level two of three.

You certainly didn't come off as judgmental. Thanks, though!

  • Ugh, I have to play this song, and while it's cool to listen to, I absolutely hate playing it. I'm a clarinet player, and I do not like articulating all those crazy notes.=P

  • I play clarinet and I'm excited :D

Haha but it is difficult. Ugh practice =P

  • this song is awesome.. in the lowbrass parts. Though this is good.. i would take it a little faster. Great though.

  • I would take it faster, too. Not sure why it wasn't.

  • the percussion is kinda getting powered down by the winds and brass

  • I guess I don't see that...could you explain?

  • Tubas rule in this song

  • Im not saying it because Im a percussionist , but it's not their fault because the tempo was soooo slow. It's the conducter , If you said that they are not able to play the part , then I could see where your coming from, but you didnt , not bad though.

  • haha, you misunderstood my comment. I am a percussionist also...which might help you understand the comment...go back one comment, and you will see a person posted "CLARINETS!!!!!" The tempo and percussionist comment was completely unrelated. Nice observation, though.

  • we also did this song for all county but our tempo was much faster

  • just as im practicing this song... (playing along practicing for chair test) i realize that they dont play accents really well. lol.

  • no Bari Sax is beast

  • Clarinets are cooler than every other instument. are are just awesome like that =]

  • are are? lol

    nope: Trumpets, tubas, or perc's.

  • umm... i dont think you have heard my bands clarinets. we rule the world. haha. jk, not that fantastic... but we're amazinng. what grade are u in?

  • ummm...I don't think you've heard MY band's clarinets...and that's where I stop talking lol

    I'm a sophomore

  • and we have like 60 clarinets

  • wow, you guys played it sloww... we played it like, really fast. CLARINETSSSS!

  • this band plays everything slow...

    PERCUSSIONISTSSSSSSS!!!!

  • awesome! i played this at bluelake and has forever been my favorite band piece

  • hahahaa... i was wondering where the heck deerpath middle school was. lol. we are playing this as a high school symphony band lol

  • tht was written for my school way cool! :-)

  • my high school band played this song this year, it's awesome. i play horn, and i found it interesting that there weer many baritones, trombones, and trumpets, but only one horn =/ oh well. we played this song faster than it was here

  • nice job, our band played this. we sucked.

  • i played snare. i was sloppy that day : (

  • By the way, if it sounds werid in the beginning, it's because the director forgot to give us 4 beats before starting. We recovered nicely, though. :)

  • What school are u from?? What State??

  • wow that was really slow

  • ya, its supposed to be 160

  • well r band just played it faster thats all
