jeremiah johnson was a great movie. and ive actually met 1 true mountain man who was a war vet and he didnt really want to be bothered by anyone. wont say his name for obvious reasons. but it truly is the way to live. everyday you fight to survive and any other way isnt living at all!
This reminds me of the history of where I live -- LaPorte, Colorado. Here there were French fur trappers who lived alongside Arapaho indians in the mountains.
it was a swivel breeched double barrel one a smoothbore and the other a rifle .you pull back on the trigger guard and swivle the other barrel around for a quick second shot
Faved! I have watched this movie many times. The original French Voyagers` were taught by the Cree people how to trap for furs in the Upper Rockies. It`s a rich history, one worth looking into.
One of my all time favorites :) I wish my friends had more of an ambition to discover with their own eyes the beauty and hostility of the woods and the cold, instead of seeing it like this or going the godam mall or wasting their breath at the bar. I'm tired of trudging on in the woods by myself. If I had one wish it would be that more of humanity would get back to their roots, instead of the passing glance at a corporate dream house and Walmart cereal coupons.
woman have a natural instict for motherhood...men have a instict to hunt and gather....its in our genes from the beginiing of man....I have packed by myself with mules in the high country by myself many years as a prof of Biology...but it is always great to come home to a great woman..woman should go with men to the backcountry..it is a great experience.......
To me this is the most beautiful video I have ever seen.My late husband comes to mind when I see this as he was an avid hunter and dangerously liked to hunt alone.I realy think had we not been married he would have lived as this mountain man did.
I cry every time I watch this and thank you for putting such a wonderful piece of beauty together,,,as if just for me. He died of cancer 4 years ago and I know he watches this with me.
To be a mountain man is a dream not a goal. I would starve to death, because all of the wildlife would know how many legs a horse has. Yeah,Brad Pitt and Robert Redford would be great together.
when i am 18 i am setting off to alaska to become a mountian man i only have two more months till i leave and i am already packed my name is dillion mcintyre so remember as the next mountian man with a dream
'The way that you wander is the way that you chose, the day that you tarry is the day that you lose'.... 'Sunshine or thunder a man will always wonder where the fair wind blows'.... 'Watch your top knot, yep watch yourn'... 'What's on the spit?.. grown particular?... just about the company I keep'... 'You've come far pilgrim... feels like far'
Good perception piece of the mood of the movie and sensibility of the character. It was in many ways an introspective movie and this really captures that. And just happens to be my absolute favorite.
Part 2-The only downside is I was nicknamed Jeremiah Johnson by others..lol..you'll see it in my profile pic. This is one of those gems that'll go from generation to generation for those lucky enough to stumble upon it. Robert Redford actually said its his favorite. Thumbs up all the way on this one. My first thought was "He got it Right!" I was enthralled every step of the way.
Thank you for returning this to us. When I am home after spending all day runnin down my time, I watch this and dream of my youth, my youthful love for the cold, the mountains, solitude. Peace.
@dacaveman1848 - a wonderful comment, I share the same experience, the cool, solid mountains, far from the maddening crowd, a simply wonderful movie, prominent in my collection, I remember the day I first saw it, it changed me, that is a special occurrence which doesn't happen very often, I could list on my hand films that have done that, one that comes to mind is Steve McQueen's 'The Sand Pebbles'
excellent video...thanks

@nebraska8441 How could it be otherwise? Many things in HIS story have been slanted, distorted and made so obscured as to barely resemble reality.

The face at the 1:25 mark is clearer as the camera pans down and at 1:30 it looks like Johnson's face as best I can tell.
