Say what you want, the video looks exactly the same and models can still blur up when they get close (1:35 and 3:28 being good examples). I've always suspected that people have trained themselves to believe 'HD' is actually making a noticeable difference because that's what they are told, rather than it actually being true. That said, the camera is focusing better sometimes, but I wouldn't put that down to the 'HD' element of it.
So overall, a net improvement. Just don't get too swept up in 'HD'

Wow. Honestly, in some SD vids the minis looked really flat and dull. But this - if this is only level 3 or 4 of possible 10 (the Skorne stuff), I can't wait to see samples of level 10 work from BTP. So I'd really like to see an HD vid where you show examples of all your different detail levels. Would that be possible, Shawn?

Sometimes the model gets into focus and then you take it way to show us something else so just keep in mind that the camera can be a bit slow...other than that, great lookin models =D

The new camera is looking good. I've seen some people put their hand behind the model to give a much shallower depth so the focus can get the model quicker and easier. Might want to experiment with that and see how it goes.
With a little practice this will really do the Buisness a lot of good. If you're looking at showcasing some projects or models, perhaps placing them on a small rotating plinth with a plain back ground (I actually remember seeing them on your adepticon converage) and having the camerca focased. This would be great to send to clients, potential clients and would serve as great advertising.
My word.. its like seeing your miniatures with my glasses on at last. Those gold and red armoured minis when they came into focus looked very plush, I can only imagine what your best work looks like.
The HD quality is so crisp and clear when it latches on... we'll be able to tell when you've hoovered and dusted... ohhh no, more chores for the minions. (joking)

Oh my .... i want HD-Battle reports. Sometimes when the fig get to close to the camera it didnt focus that well. But it gives 1000% better idea of the quality BTP paints at. Also very important to keep the camera still..if you move it the camera looses focus!
Just a tip, dont move the models so much, give the camera time, also it u hold u hand flat behind the model will make the camera focus a lot quicker :)
Hey wow! Congrats on the camera. You'll certainly have to train on using it a bit more because getting that focus just right will take some time. You'll maybe just have to slow down when showing a model close to the camera, and that might be difficult given that you usually move at a pretty quick pace when doing those studio updates. I think when showing the models up-close, if you put your hand behind them as a backdrop it will likely focus quicker and stay focused as you move the model. I could be wrong though. Either which way, I'm really excited about seeing you guys in HD.
This HD cam improves the impression of your work by some 40,000%. I'd almost ask for re-shots of some of the old videos, but that's impossible, I guess... :0)

Great new camera! Suggestion: if you want the camera to focus, stop moving the object for a moment and you can even hold your hand behind it to reduce the background the camera is trying to focus on. Your shirts can drive the poor thing crazy when trying to focus on a figure that you keep moving.
But in all seriousness wonderful news team! The day has come :D So great to see everything in HD.
Maybe turn off the steadycam as it feels a little cautious and you are losing that classic BTP energy and feel and I miss it for real.
I'd also shut down the aperture and up the gain, and have that autofocus centre set and you're finger on the focus button. Cos we don't wanna miss a thinnnngggg!

I think we gotta start a fund to arm you with a Flip HD :) 1600 videos instills a very strong aesethic in our loving minds and over the years the camera has become as much a character as anyone! WOW. when it's focused the painting looks great!. maybe if there is nothing else in frame and the models are still the focus would keep up

Great new camera! Suggestion: if you want the camera to focus, stop moving the object for a moment and you can even hold your hand behind it to reduce the background the camera is trying to focus on. Your shirts can drive the poor thing crazy when trying to focus on a figure that you keep moving.

But in all seriousness wonderful news team! The day has come :D So great to see everything in HD.
Maybe turn off the steadycam as it feels a little cautious and you are losing that classic BTP energy and feel and I miss it for real.
I'd also shut down the aperture and up the gain, and have that autofocus centre set and you're finger on the focus button. Cos we don't wanna miss a thinnnngggg!

@asjarra We will probably do both-- the HD careful stuff, and also where I just grab the FLIP LD and video whatever I feel like.

@bluetablepainting Sounds good. Mix it up! I think we gotta start a fund to arm you with a Flip HD :) 1600 videos instills a very strong aesethic in our loving minds and over the years the camera has become as much a character as anyone! Alternatively give Mike D a couple of (or maybe a couple more) Red Bulls before you shoot :D Doing a wonderful job!
