@dragonabz11 if you are just using paper that is white on all sides it don't matter. if you have 1 side color and 1 side white. white faces up

this "magic circle" is also used to make fruits, for example a pineapple, do like 6 magic circle one in top of another in order to make a kind of ball. Then just add the leafs to it. ( If you want to make more than just a simple magic circle :D )

I think I just found the creator.According to David Mitchell's origami website,in the section under "The Modular Origami Design Encyclopaedia" under Modulars in motion, there's a model that looks like this.It says it was designed by Hiroshi Kumasaka and is called Joyful Units,or Rotunda.Not sure its the EXACT same model though.
