  • "Pysgnosis"...?

    O_o

  • I need some BIIGG help. when the words are scrolling across, i press fire and the game doesn't start. What shall I do. PLEASSE HELP!!!

  • @samthebaddy1

Are you using the second joystick port?

  • @laffer35 Im using winvice to run it so i dunno

  • @samthebaddy1 On second thought, iv'e tried using both and it STILL doesn't work.

  • @laffer35 Ok, so I tried using both but it STILL doesn't work.

  • @laffer35 Ok. Now it's working. Thanks for the help.

  • @samthebaddy1

How did you get it working? Sorry I couldn't be of more help but I had no idea what you were doing wrong.

  • @laffer35 Well. I put Keyset A into joystick port 2 after I did the thing where you select unlimited energy and commence gameplay. Then it showed the ocean and psygnosis presents Shadow Of The Beast thingamabob. Then it showed the words scrolling across and i pressed fire and it went on gameplay. Hope this answers your question. Bye.

  • Why is he playing volleyball at 0:55

  • Amiga version was better

  • PYGNOSIS AT THE BEGINING, A BAD SPELLING ITS PSYGNOSIS

  • WHOA. I must admit, reading the title I expected it to look like silly crap, but for a Commodore 64 game, this looks fantastic!

  • such music

  • nice drum beats

  • This is one of those games that I keep coming back too if only for the music! God, even back as a young boy it sounded awesome and it still does!

  • c 64 port looks pretty good for what it is

  • the c 64 version has the best music of all versions!

  • the spectrum version looks better

  • I had this game on my Amiga back in the day and I was impressed with the graphics and sound. I think I may be more impressed with this. Parallax scrolling on a C64 is amazing. The graphics and sound are remarkably true to the Amiga version. Sounds like they even matched the gameplay since the Amiga version was sluggish too. Never my favorite game to play, but good for making your friends jaw drop. Nice vid.

  • pysgnosis )8-(

  • I would love to play this port, but I don't know how to use a C64 emulator. :(

  • anybody know where i can get the sheet music for shadow of the beast? i wanna learn how to play it on my synth/keyboard

  • @carafrance Use your ear!!!!

  • OH GOD THE BASS FOR THIS GAME!

Seriously, bass for this game's music on my computer is booming.

  • The music is a LOT better than the MS version. Oooh that was painful.

  • The graphics are soo awesoem for the C64.

  • brings back so many memories

  • I <3 the SID Chip! :D

  • @AwollSGF Hardcore / True Gamers don't base a game solely on it's graphics. Gameplay is ultimately what matters the most.

Also for a Commodore 64 system which was 8-bit, these graphics were amazing, hell the game even features parallaxing backgrounds! It was unheard of back in those days on the Commodore 64, 99% of the games on Commodore 64 didn't feature parallaxing backgrounds. Once coders cameup with coding tricks, etc they really opened up the full potential of the Commodore 64's power! :)

  • And the SID remixes are nice :)

  • @Chaniyth: Actually parallax scrolling was fairly common on the 64...

  • Yeah I would love a copy of this soundtrack.

  • Man the music in this game is knockout. I just retrieved my C64 from the family home and played it last night for the first time in over 10 years!

This is one that I tried out - cartridge version.

  • So you have an original copy of the cartridge?

Could you check if Psygnosis is misspelled there too (like in this video) on the scrolling title screen, as Pysgnosis?

  • I have the original Cartridge too, I'll need to find it to tell you if they misspelled it, I'll get back to you ;)

  • @laffer35 I have the original cartridge and Psygnosis is spelled Pysgnosis there too.

But a great game. Technically very impressive and excellent gameplay.

  • Comment removed

  • WTF?! By the time SotB came out there should have been no need for a C64 at all! I would never believed there was a C64 version had I not watch this!

  • I used my C64 alomgside my Megadrive right up to about 94. Games were still being produced then. Street Fighter II was ported to C64 (it was f'ing awful).

  • This was really the commodore 64 version?

  • Hahaha My favourite game of the Commodore 64 Era :D this was rock hard And I still never completed the darn game haha

  • Aye Much better than the Amega version

  • Regarding the music, David Whittaker composed the original tunes for the Amiga version. I got the job to convert them and took some artistic liberties to add my own flavour :) I only composed one of the tracks from scratch.

  • Good job.

I always liked both the original and the C64 versions, nothing beats the SID ;)

  • Kul med en svensk SID-makare. Gjorde du några andra låtar för kommersiella spel ?

  • Kick-off 2, till cartridgeversionen som aldrig släpptes. "Extreme" och "European Soccer Challenge" använde min musik. Du kan hitta låtarna på HVSC

  • Anyone has ever noticed at the very start, that the intro says "PYSGNOSIS" instead of "PSYGNOSIS" ? Is this also found in an official game release? ( I had a cracked one ).

  • I used to play this game as a wee one, just seeing it here brings back so many fond memories of me father and I playing it... *sigh*

  • Man, this game had the most immersive game play that could be experienced anywhere. I mean for the time period. Loved the music in both the 64 and Amiga versions. These vids take me back to better times.

  • Dusted of the old C64 yesterday and spent all afternoon playing this. I felt 6 years old again. Still my favorite game ever

  • Which version of SotB is this?

  • Fuckin' A

  • oooo yeah this is the one

  • Great music!!!

  • wow ... it's amazing SID could capture the feeling so well ... great tune !

  • This is superior to the ST version!!!

  • Wow the C64 version looks better then I expected. And the Levels have been somewhat tweaked, wich makes it interesting too.

  • I remember playing this back in the day and thinking it was hard... then I saw the Amiga version.

Anyways, the music is definitely one of the most memorable in the history of video games.

  • I still love the music.

  • was the Commadore-64 graphics chip similar to NES?

  • no commodore had only 16 colors and it used double pixels horizontaly. So it was alot more primitive but could still produce really nice results if the graphics artists knew what they were doing.

  • oh my god i rem this i got this for xmas 1992-93 and c64 with the terminator 2 this is going back long time cool game it was i loved this game

  • Can you tell me how you recorded this video? I know that VICE has a built in recorder but I just can't figure out how to use it and create Mpegs or WMV format videos with it or whatever. I also use Fraps, but I can't get that to record anything either when using the Winvice emulator.

  • The Amiga version of this will forever be the best. FMtownz and PC engine tied for second. Super Nintendo the fourth(Even though it was the most different). Genesis fifth. This would be sixth(even though I really like the rendition of the second levels music). The Master System Seventh. Lynx is shit.

  • Dude, don't compare 16bit with 8bit versions! I had the amstrad version and the only better thing was the higher resolution graphics (320x200). The c64 version kicks ass! Multi parallax scrolling, colors, s!d muzak! If only the sotb demo from longshot on amstrad was the official conversion... :) :) :)

  • Ha ha, what a great game that was, all the bad guys were pricks in that game,

  • i hated how every game was tremendously letterboxed in both directions

its like hey i bought a 13 inch monitor but with the double borders its like 8 inches of action

  • Note the typo in the beginning. It says "Pysgnosis". The right spelling is Psygnosis. Stupid typo =P

  • Haha!

  • C-64 and Amiga will always rule. Down with he PC shit.

  • It's not far off the amiga version is it?

  • It is very far from Amiga version.

  • The C64 version was the only one I ever played; I only found out years later that it was available on the amiga. The C64 version is my favourite video game soundtrack of all time.

  • Yeah it really is awesome.

  • Sir you are correct, this is the greatest gaming soundtrack ever written. Frederik Segerfalk is a fine composer.

  • But the original tunes were made by David Whittaker..

  • lolz, i played it on sega like 17 times in a row for the music:3

  • whats c64

  • Commadore 64

  • hey laffer35, could you please explain how to record such a gameplay in winvice? i've look for it quite much on internet, downloaded ffmpeg binary and eventually not understood where to put it. come on, please do me c64 fan a favor ;)

  • The music and sound are cool !

  • WOAH! IT ACTUALLY CAME OUT ON THE C64!?

  • Yup, on cartridge. The music remixes are awesome I think. The controls could've been improved though.

  • I like the last boss and the underworld music:3

  • This port was actually made by the folks who gave as Grand Theft Auto on PC! :D

  • This is unreal - Psygnosis is spelled wrong on the second screen ;)
