  • I don't buy the Martin Gore explanation of what the song is about. The lyrics do not 100% fit his explanation. He claims that it is about how Priscilla said in her book "Elvis and Me" that Elvis was her man and her mentor and how often that happens in love relationships but the lyrics are written not from Priscilla's point of view, but Elvis' point of view.

  • @seanstrife im going by an interview that depeche mode did where they said what the meaning of the song meant

  • Adam Lavine is in the video?! (:

  • the song is about heroin thats the personal jesus

  • @vwnutt1 No, Depeche Mode wrote the song based on a quote from Priscilla Presley about Elvis. Johnny Cash put his own interpretation to the lyrics and Marilyn Manson just covered the song purely for shock value.

  • even if you dont believe in jesus this is a great song. its not just about jesus its about redemption and and having faith in the people that mean the most to you. im not a believer but still think this song has a geat meaning.

  • Why? Sure johnny cash was great but he can't match country with alternative, much less Nine Inch Nails' Hurt

  • down with SOPA

  • Outstanding this song should touch any faith

  • 465 people don't have there own personal Jesus

  • Please tell me you people know that he didn't write this song... It was done originally by De pech mode. Is anyone aware of that?

  • @209awesomeman Dm was first ;) it's cover. At the end of his career he covered many songs :)

  • @209awesomeman duh!

  • great song by a great artist

  • i love johnny voice

  • love this version and the marylin manson version, this man is like god :')

  • frusciante

  • Superb.

  • "10 years ago we had Steve Jobs, Bob Hope, Johnny Cash now we have no Jobs, no Hope, no Cash". God bless them all.

  • @UTDMyHeaven The hype about Steve jobs scare me. Somtimes ago we had Dostojewski, Martin Luther King, Hunter S. Thompson. This People Change the World in good. Look /watch?v=p2MKzO9MfrE

  • definitely made this song his bitch

  • Great cover.

  • frusciante!

  • that was a tight video yo. Did I see Kanye towards the end?

  • Why cant this be watched in a playlist?

  • Who ever said Johnny Cash was a country musician? I think it short sells him to place him squarely in that limited genre. He was clearly much more than that.

  • @blimao86 You said it yourself. Was a Country Musician. He's a Legend. But to answer you properly. His early work was Country..

  • @blimao86 i agree but counrty isnt limited, it just isnt talked about much

  • Johnny endured 4 months without the love of his life before he joined June.

  • And you wath ? The biggest critic of music ? You have much to learn

  • this has to be the baddest mother fucker in country music

  • Hairs = Raised

  • Johny Cash influenciou grandes bandas como Depeche Mode, Marilyn Manson, Matanza etc...

ele para mim é um dos pais do rock, a música não seria a mesma sem a presença dessa grande figura que marcou a história...

  • funny how the same lyrics can mean something entirely different.

  • @spitfiremanlizerd so correct you are...

  • @spitfiremanlizerd

    so true

  • @spitfiremanlizerd - i was thinking exactly the same , how this version gives a whole new meaning of the song ...

  • JOHNNY FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

  • This is my favorite,Johnny rules!

  • some one get me a rag, theres a smudge on the like bar

  • @CarlSagan0101 You are misinformed and obviously believe what you are told to believe. Do some research and find out the truth before you start spewing the socialist propaganda you were told by the media. The dems and republicans are liars and cheats. They never do what they say they will. Ron Paul will fix the problems here by reestablishing sound money and a constitutional government. The Constitution worked until socialists in democrat clothing got into our government and destroyed liberty.

  • @dedicatedkiller11b you are obviously not very intelligent.

  • @BadAssG1rl Depeche Mode.

  • @CaporegimePhil No, Depeche Mode recorded this song in 1989, Johnny Cash covered it in 2002.

  • @falstoffe No, they wrote and recorded it in the late 80's. :)

  • Johnny Cash just comes in and owns this song. Sorry Depeche Mode

  • yea i know im lame but i came here from marylin mansons cover

  • @Gamerlives Yes, but Hilary Duff didn't do this song...I mean, she just used a sample of the Depeche Mode's original version for an her own song.

  • @ciornianucristian Sorry, but Depeche Mode did the original. Check on Wikipedia. ;)

  • @kzumiten You're wrong! Depeche Mode did the original and Johnny Cash covered it. Check on Wikipedia, please!

  • @EvilTim1234 Depeche Mode released this song in 1989 as a single and the album that contains it in 1990. Johnny Cash covered the song in 2002.

  • Nice cover .But marilyn manson is better :)

  • @TheBugi998 Happy New Year crazy wrong man:-)

  • how sick is that little piano bit.

  • @ tyrusthevirus1996 the song was covered by cash, and manson. origanily sung by depishmode

  • Guitar here is played by John Frusciante, ex-RHCP guitarist :D

  • Lol. I never knew he sang this song, i thought marilyn manson did. xD

  • @tyrusthevirus1996 The song was originally done by Depeche Mode, and was covered there-after by Cash. Manson made his own cover, my least favorite of the three, a few years back.

And now you know this song.

  • Kto od Rocka ? : )

  • Pill popper too o.0

  • Too bad he was an old school methhead o.0

  • Dosidis, Greece is beautiful...You need Personal

Jesus...Listen to the Words of the Song! :)

  • watchout ... we have some good song over here

  • not bad at all ! thx

  • You people there in the US have Barak Obama, Stevie Wonder, Steve Jobs and Johnny Cash.

We, here in Greece, have had G.Papandreou and it is no Wonder we have no Jobs and no Cash!!!

  • @Dosidis start a rebbellion and the USA will be soon there to aid you all

  • @denandy LOL thats wrong

  • @Dosidis HAHA! Obama has produced 0 jobs and created more economic problems due to his inaction on taking out the FED and reducing government spending. He's made things worse by bailing everyone out with borrowed money... Ron Paul Revolution 2012!

  • @dedicatedkiller11b Your confusing inaction with opposition. Repubilcans wont let him do shit from what I hear.

  • @dedicatedkiller11b

So you're saying that we should fix our problems by voting in someone that will widen the gap between the rich & poor, screw the educational system, and take away social programs such as medicare away from people that actually need it? Yeah, that sounds like a great plan.

  • @Dosidis We also have great History, History that enlightend most of the world as we know it. For me this means hope, and solution, not only for us greeks, but for every human, yet, the strongest hope for all people, is Jesus! Happy new Year, from Athens Hellas!

  • @Dosidis Nice one Dosidis. Its a shame that the cradle of Western Civilization is having so much difficulty. Best of luck from this American.

  • @Dosidis but actually ya got sense of humor!

  • @Dosidis original....

  • @0451Deus Back in the day, Obama would've been punished just being mentioned in the same sentence as a white man. Trolololol

  • @Dosidis You mean "HAD", there are no JOBS and no CASH anymore in US too

  • @Dosidis wow εγραψες ιστορια φιλε!!!!! :)

  • @Dosidis xaxaxa.........

  • @Dosidis i think it's sad what they did to greek (from austria). they should let you get out of the euro and not give you more credits which mean even more dept....do you think it's still ok to visit crete for sommer? (i like that island...wanted to live there someday near matala bay)

  • @Dosidis

Old joke, especially now as Jobs is dead.

    Also, same problem in Hungary.

  • @Dosidis what about bob hope

  • @Dosidis And now they have no jobs and no cash. exchange Stevie wonder for Bob Hope and they joke's about perfect x)

  • @Dosidis Steve & Johnny died - Obama killed the cash.

  • Johnny is KING!

  • hey up guys check out our version

  • PICK UP YOUR FUCKING PHONE!!!!!!!!! I NEED PERSONAL GESUSSS!!!!!! ANYBODY OUT THERE?!!!!!!!!

  • good song right here.

  • JC

  • There was a man very in touch with his humanity both glorious and wicked , i like that he always touched on both sides as an un sugar coating observer , absolutely beautiful music , its not often a band gets as good a compliment as being covered by JC can you imagine ?

  • Johnny Cash = My personal Jesus

  • Comment removed

  • johnny cash o pessoal do rio de janeiro te ama !!!!

  • I prefer just the mind music with no video

  • At 2:51 to 2.56 you see Keith Richard

  • O que falar sobre esse cara?? fodastico...

  • "Someone who's there"

  • Mike Campbell, John Frusciante, and Johnny Cash with Rick Rubin producing.........Pure Awesomeness

  • mmm not bad for dear johnny

  • he the man

  • this is way better

  • If the man was still physically alive, I would give props (Yes, props meaning a closed fist bump for all you old fogies) to this badass mofo, and make him a mean cup of coffee to sit and just listen to him talk/sing.

  • This is a wonderful cover. I always love seeing Johnny Cash's covers, knowing that while he was pretty old school, he could still relate to more modern music himself, and the lyrics of those artists still touched him enough to make him want to cover their music. He did a pretty bad ass job on this one.

  • badass. Johnny Cash loved Christ and So do I! what a badass!

  • Can you name all the people in this video?

  • Not the best cover... Hurt was just BADASS.

  • @aaroncoats1 What do you mean cover?

  • @draculon5 Lol you think this was a Cash original?

  • @Theroadgypsy no... everyone knows it's originally by Depeche Mode. But let's be honest, Johnny Cash is far cooler.

  • im am the 7667° one to comment in this vid

This guy \/ made an achievement!

  • I apsolutely hate country but johnny cash makes it work

    JC (jesus christ) (johnny cash)

  • @PwgZombie sounds this like country to you?

  • @PwgZombie johnny cash is a god fuck LL!

  • @PwgZombie and Jack of Clubs

  • @kuksa8 John was the King of Spades. Not the Jack Of Clubs.

  • @DeathSquad1777 yeah well Jack of Clubs is also JC, Johnny Cash, Jesus Christ, Jack of Clubs

  • @PwgZombie j2+2jc+c2

  • Country Mode....

  • I love so much Depeche Mode.

    And this cover.

  • will someone please mention JOHN FRUSCIANTE who did this beautiful guitar arrangement?

  • this song is layers of JC

    JC^2

  • There is something about this version that sounds morbidly upbeat and provokes a deep emotion. He's a god of music.

  • He really understood music.

  • He was awesome! he had no musical boundries, he liked all kinds of music unlike other country that separates themselves from other genres. Rusty cage was another great remake

  • did anybody notice the similarity between his voice and Mark Knopfler's voice?

  • whoever made this video did a great job

  • @sdfksfladfasdf That comment is disgusting. He SERVED Jesus. He is with Him now and I'm sure he'd be sick at what you said about him.

  • @summerhellewel I don't think Johnny was religious. He had powerful personality and he was smart. And saying that he SERVED Jesus is just disgusting to me. How would you feel if someone said that he SERVER Harry Potter or Muhammed? Fuck Jesus/Mohammed/what-ever-the-fuck and fuck you.

  • @zemersEU listen JC's "last interview", here on youtube. Think you need some extra info on him :)

  • @zemersEU Idiocy.. Arrongant

  • @zemersEU Wow. U are a very nice person. YOU my friend NEED Jesus. Saying Johnny wasn't religious shows u don't know much about him. He toured w Billy Graham all over. Haven't you heard his "tell um that God's gonna cut um down" song? That was written based off an actual experience he had. Oh and I'm smart to.

  • Johnny is the only artist that makes a cover HIS song!?!? Right?!?!?!

  • @ardybsme1125 WRONG !!!

  • @ardybsme1125 The original version of the song is by Depeche Mode. Johnny Cash just covered it. Check on Wikipedia.

  • Cash is God...

  • @sdfksfladfasdf My friend, I would be a little less Blasphemis I were you.

  • @ardybsme1125 if your gonna say someones being blasphemous at least spell it right haha

  • Depeche Mode wrote about a personal Jesus, Johnny Cash made it impersonal.Depeche Mode made a speech out of the song, Johnny Cash turned it into a message.Whose song is this?srry for bad english

  • what is the genre of this music ?

  • @piskopatpiskopos I thinks its known as Fucking Excellent.

  • A lot of people don't know but this is John Frusciante on guitar!

  • no shit just when i thought i couldn't like him any more

  • I like the original better, but....@djrom66, yes, Cash took many a song and made it better.. And, he made many a song that was covered, and did the best version.. Cash is an all time great, no matter how you look at things..

  • Best voice ever. Love johnny.

  • I like Johnny Cash. I like this song the orignal version personal jesus.

  • Lol, this have more views than the original

  • Johnny Cash was one badass mother fucker.

  • @ddoneal123 Yeah he was, he met Chuck Norris on the street, and Chuck walked to the other sidewalk.

  • i don't know why, but I would like to hear a version of kurt cobain of this song

  • I still think the original version, from Depeche Mode is better, but Johnny Cash... it just can't be nothing less than "awesome". And the Marilyn Manson version is still Pretty good aswell.

We can consider that... this means the song itself is amazing.

  • Yeah.........Nothings better then Cash!!!!!!

  • @kzumiten Yeah.....no....learn then speak

  • @EvilTim1234 Wow you're retarded

  • john frusciante from red hot chilli peppers played guitar in this thats why the guitar is epic

  • His voice gives me chills. Johnny is the man

  • jc was a punk....oioioioioioi

  • greatest cover ever!!!!!

    Johnny Cash forever!!!

  • @TheKapitan98: This is actually a cover of the Depeche Mode song. Marilyn Mason's version is a cover, too.

  • I believe Cash more when he is singing this song than Marilyn.

  • This has more views than DM`s music video.

  • the most motherfucker badass american that ever existed

  • Billy Preston played keys on this offering. Fiona also guested on bridge. This d.v.d. was a swansong of magnitude. Each song on "The man comes around" is respectfully done and with an interesting guest artist as well.

  • Some great songs, accompanied by some great artists were featured on this, his last production - which came out at Christmas time a few years ago. It came with a dvd which showed Fiona Apple on piano playing bridge. Who cares if you like marilyn's version better?

  • When I listen this song by Johhny Cash, I feel like getting a Winchester , go outside and shoot anyone whoever comes in front of me.

    For some reason.

  • @Chataou your probably a bit mental:-)

  • Cmon, people. Johnny Cash didn't take this song to make it better than the original version by Depeche Mode. Depeche Mode came up with the lyrics, the style, and Johnny Cash most likely covered this because it fit his hard, Country style.

Do fans always have to argue? Johnny Cash was inspired by their song and chose to sing his own version.

  • @diieradiiodiie Rick Rubin chose the song. depeche mode was flattered

  • Noone never ever will make something more epic than the original, Sorry but you cant compare Dave Gaham's voice. NUFF SAID!!!

  • I love this song. It is so profound, so touching, so spiritual. I love to listen to Johny Cash and this performace has got to be one of his very best. The lyrics are a call to be forgiving and search for peace and humanity in Jesus. R.I.P.

  • Also what is up with all of these attention grabbing whores getting their mug attached to this johnny cash cover???? You know people like kanye never were fans of cash or DM so why the fuck is he in this video!!!!!!

  • This Song Rocks! The Gospel according to Johnny Cash

  • stick to the fulsom county shit johnny, these depeche mode/nine inch nails covers just aren't convincing

  • The piano throws me off a tad...lol

  • odlicna pesma
