My first computer ( outside a commodore 64 ) bought in Jan 1998.

I remember people were impressed with the 6 gig hard drive. ( maybe 2.5 gigs available space after formatting and apps )

And I spend a whopping $550 dollars for a 128mb ram chip. The computer alone was $3000.00. Hasn't been turned on in nearly 3 years now.

lol, and the irony of this commercial is that later, IBM's PPC G5 turned out to be so hot, you just couldn't put it in a laptop. that aside, the G3 kicked ass, i can still run Tiger on it :-)

My Dual Core Pentium Xeon Intel MAC runs any game I play on it ( using Parallels VM w XP) as fast as the vid card( the bottleneck) allows. For ,me XP ( and now Vista) is only for Mac, and a few Windows-only apps....

Running OSX on my AMD box has been very stable. Shit happens, and not every computer is perfect, but OSX is a pretty stable operating system. More so then the old MacOS.

They're more expensive when something goes wrong however, and less durable (I've seen a PC & an apple dropped from a 2nd floor; the PC needed a new motherboard and case, the mac was trashed).

Yeah, that's the best way to test your computer and see which one's the best: drop them from the second floor. The Mac's power relies on its OS.

As does every computer, but things go wrong from time to time. Seeing that Linux runs on PC's (and Apples), which IMHO is superior to both MAC and Windows, the question is not about OS but about hardware. Sure the Apple's got good features, but if something gets damaged or I want to upgrade, waiting months is no good for me. Thus PC's are a step ahead as far as practicality go.

I agree, I never owned a G5, But I have a Blue and White G3 that still kicks tail today. NEVER had a problem.

I get my Intel iMac, I've seen a kernal panic like four time already. Intel makes CRAPPY processors.

Dude, I have been using a Mac for over twenty years. There is PLENTY of software for it for what I do. Windows has more, but the average bar for elegance is pretty low in Windows.

But I'll bite. tell me five things that a Dell can do that a Mac can't.

1.Not make you inconvinient to the majority of people who have windows format files they need to send to you for some reason.

No such thing as "windows format files". A .PSD, .Doc or .Mpeg file will open on any computer as long as you have the software to open it. In windows, .EXE is an Application, not a file format.

Besides, can your windows machine run .App? O_o

Wrong again, Macintosh Apps are easily available. In fact, I've been downloading Mac Applications for quite some time now and haven't had a problem finding one that does a task that I want or need.

Dude, here's where I tell you to learn something about macintoshes. The macintosh has been able to open any disk format that exists in windows and can open a few disk formats that windows can't even see. Have had this ability since the late 80's. Where were you? O_o

4.Windows based computers are more globally recognised meaning there is a majority of people which would be able to navigate a windows based computer opposed to a minority of people who could navigate a Mac better.

I see. so what you are saying, is that because more peopl know how to use windows, that add up to something that it can do that a Mac can't. This is kind of a stupid notion. More people know how to drive a car than fly a plane, does that mean that cars are superior too.

Of course, if someone really had some smarts, they'd learn new things. i kno how to use Mac OS classic, OS X, Windows (Every version), DOS and UNIX.

That's because it is hard to sell Joe Consumer a IBM or Motorola chip[ without falling into a geek mode on why RISC is superior to CISC. Hell, My core due machine has given me more problems in a few months than my G3 gave in a few years. Just because something is better, doesn't mean it will sell well.
