IIRC West Virginia and Kentucky have gone for the winning candidate in all of the last 12 presidential elections. It's unlikely that we're going to get a successful presidential candidate (or, for that matter, an unsuccessful one) who is against coal. Maybe we can hope for better things from Congress, though, since most people in Congress can get elected just as easily without the support of coal-producing states.
