  • You actually need 16 nylon washers right? since you put one on both sides of the motherboard?

  • I need some advice, recently I've done this, took it apart, popped the heatsinks out, removed the old paste, used Arctic silver 5 then removed the x-clamps and used the screws with the metal and nylon washers, I put it back together and let it overheat, but once I started it back up from that it still showed 3 rings...do I need to keep trying to overheat or what?

  • @xXPAPAPWNAGEXx make sure you keep overheating it until you only have 2 lights, put the case back together, then you let it cool down overnight and turn on the xbox and it should work

  • don't you need 16 nylon washers?

  • @hellagoesdumb are you talking about the washers what people put clothes into?

  • At the end I was like beautiful

  • I dont work

  • what really is a e 74? Mine just displayed it. Is it over heating the motherboard. I saw lines in the screen, that is probably the graphics card?

  • @Iullian64 i'm no pro on xbox's but 2 things one yes your graphics are going, two your system is overheating if it has had a bad rrod fix

  • I used Arctic Silver 5 paste, and this tutorial with one of my old E74s laying around.

The best way to overheat it is to put it back together, and use pen caps to stop the back fans.

Better than spending hundreds for a whole new console.

  • Can i just send my shit in to you i will pay you with sex (;

  • Whats a good aggressive cleaner to use? Any household cleaner? Windex? Or something else?

  • @JediMaster81078

Isopropyl alcohol. Most others will leave behind a residue that you'd want to clean off with isopropyl anyway. Plus it cleans effectively and evaporates quickly. Many other cleaners around the house are a bit too "aggressive" for this purpose.

  • Bad tools, bad technic, bad guy...

  • you don't need to enlarge the holes, just buy screws in the correct size. duh

  • @kraiddragon You do need to enlarge the holes, you have to use screws the same size as the ones that fit in the heatsink One side of the hole is larger than the other on the stock screws

  • I do PS3 YLOD repairs and i don't understand the repairs based on XBOX. You're supposed to do a reflow on the motherboard @ 350C (you can get away with lower) to ensure the solder reflows back onto the motherboard, i've not even opened a XBOX and i know that overheating is due to the GPU seperating from the motherboard.

  • Very NIcely done would have loved some sound with it ;)

  • i dont all the but i still have the same problem please help

  • Has anyone here fixed their e68 error by just getting a new Hard Drive?

  • This ISN'T a permanent fix guys- only sure wayt o fix RROD permanently is to reball or replace GPU

  • @diaboliq20 your retarted. this is a permanet fix. ive done it. there is no way you can get red ring again ny doing this. the x clamps are what causes it. therfore by removing them and reconecting the stuff the mother board cant bend and its not the gpu. its the little connections getting separated when the motherboard warps cuz of the xclamps so replacing your gpu would be pointless? get your facts straight

  • @TheSaxplaya1

This is not a permanent fix, this is just a patch job and will fail eventually bein from a month to like a year but it will fail. This also kills the mother board since its over heating and the more times you do the x-clamp fix it less time it has too live. the best way to fix it is by reballing it!

  • @TheSaxplaya1 HAHAHA - you're such a dumb fuck - I do reflow and reballing of GPUs for a living

the xclamp replacement is a band aid at best - you're the one with the f*cked up facts - ask anyone that repairs consoles for a living.

If the solderballs under the GPU are broken or bridged, you're going to need a reflow at least - doing the xclamp and heat trick doesn't get the console anywhere near the 217 degrees u need to remelt the solder....don't u know anything f*ckface?

  • @diaboliq20 one question though, I've been doing these. I re flow the gpu and do a x clamp delete and add copper between the heat sink and gpu. But does deleting the x clamp do anything?

  • @xmzume1746 You shouldn't need to ever shim the chips with copper for a starter....

as for the xclamp - I always replace it t=with a Team Xecuter RROD Repair Kit V2 - but tbh, you don't need to...the xclamps do a good enough job on their own....I just prefert the snugness of the replacment kit

  • @diaboliq20 yo i want to know if I take apart my 360 and do a reflow of the cpu/gpu of 750 F for 2 minutes then remove the paste and apply new thermal compound on the cpu/gpu then put everything back together will it work? i don't want to try these x clamp fixes/penny tricks since i am slightly confused about them. i did the method i had explained above on my playstation 3 but i know that is different but will it still work?

  • @TheSaxplaya1 If you knew anything about motherboard repairs, you'd know that the reason for RROD and YLOD is the GPU getting very hot and cooling down very quick. Now solder is metal and everybody should know that when metals get hot and cool to quick it warps. but in the case of soft metal lead(solder) the process of overheating forms hairline cracks seperating it from the board. In order to fix it efficiently you need to properly reflow it and flux it if need be. *10 years experience*

  • one of my 6 xbox's has had rrod lol 4 of them are launch models and they have been running 6 years... 2 are falson 2008... so all u ps3 fanboys cant go and say ps3 is better bc or rrod bc i have had only 1 problem and it was fixed in 5 mins. so eat it u ps3 loving d-bags :P

  • does gamestop repair ur xbox 360 even after u try and fix it urself with the thermal ??

  • @carsonrules10 anyone including microsoft will fix it for you if you pay them, just itll be out of warranty if you mess with it

  • my xbox only shows 1 light. what does that mean? will this repair work?

  • A FYI Gamestop Refurbished Systems do not have X-Clamps so all you need is thermal cleaner and thermal compound to fix your system.

  • If i used the thermal compound but not the screws and washers would my xbox 360 still work?

  • Wait... For error code E74 all you need is new heatsink paste on the gpu and maybe the cpu. If all I have is E74 what will adding the screws and washers do exactally? Will it prevent RROD?

  • you mean 16 nylons

  • not rrod e 68

  • how long does this last?

    does it work on e74?

  • Would you charge?

  • Would you charge me?

  • What is the "aggressive cleaning stuff" that you used?

  • @chazhobs rubbing alcohol works just fine for removing the thermal paste but i recommend buying the kit because it comes with everything you need.

  • @chazhobs Rubbing alcohol works fine

  • @xXBundleXx: rubbing alcohol? how does that work?

  • @The72nd It is motherboard safe because it evaporates about 5x faster than water will. Goof OFF! also works.

    and so does ArtiClear.

  • @The72nd Just a little on a rag and it helps strip off the paste

  • I wish someone would fix my 2 rrod xboxes

  • @DBdoubleteam i could but i dont want to give my adress..

  • it need to replace gpu.

  • noo need to fix this clamp it sucks check out the plastic bag technique.

  • yes, i have added a bunch of fans

  • @devilsreject78 the best thing about fan is when you have more air that get in that get out...

it cause a positive pressure cycle.

that big intercooler that touch both cpu and gpu. it needs to have a seperator. so that the heat of the gpu and cpu dosn't combine.

  • Would you be able to amp up your fans? perhaps install another one?

  • @kematian896 naa im fine her and alive thanks mate

  • BUY ALL OF THAT STUFF AND YOUR XBOX WILL BE PERMANENTLY FIXED FOR 1 FRICKEN WEEK OMFG!!!!!!

  • wow! thank you soooo! much i did this on my xbox 360 and now its working amazingly! im glad someone finally decided to do it right and not cut corners like the towel trick! ill recamend this video to my other friend that has the same issue! thanks kid!!

  • wow! thank you soooo! much i did this on my xbox 360 and now its working amazingly! im glad someone finally decided to do it right and not cut corners like the towel trick! ill recamend this video to my other friend that has the same issue! thanks kid!

  • simple my ass!

  • you see this is y i need a ps3

  • @moddedtutorials34 it was a joke you big baby and your responding to a comment i posted a year ago and no i am not 10 i am 11 and i like fucking your mother in the ass :D

  • i dont want to get into it like that im afraid ill break it >.>

  • should change the title because there are some rrod that can not be repaired, if i am correct ?

  • sorry dude this is too much

  • after all this, i could of saved up and just brought a new one

  • i wont try this i dont wanna jack up my x box :)

  • @controlurmind

No it works, I tried it with my old XBOX 360 now i have a new Elite 360 with the new heat sink, when I tried it... the 360 worked until I fucked it up myself with another method but this method will work :)

  • I have E74...I am going to try this with a few modifications. I am also going to heat the HANA, GPU, and CPU, separately with a heat gun from the bottom of the motherboard. This should get the solder to melt and re-ball. I don't know if it will work, but the XBOX is broken and it'll cost $150 to fix or$200 for brand new with warranty...I've got nothin to lose.

  • I'm Gona try this. Does it work for e74?

  • @powercrazedkid

It's an specific fix for your 360, so... you can try it on E74 and it will fix that: PAIN-ON-THE-ASS, problem

  • i did this and now when i turn my 360 on my fans push air out BUT after not even five min. they suck air in.. i don't get it any idea's?

  • tried this, done that, best thing was a baseball bat

  • NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER USE YOUR FINGER TO SPRED THERMAL COMPOND!!!! use a cut up cerdit card, or something that is thin and plastic.

  • This video is also for fixing E74?

  • i use rubber spacers they take up the gap between the motherboard and the chassis and get perfect contact without excess force,i use no thermal paste or x clamps and it ran for a 6 hour test but after shutting down and restarting it was red again(wait 5 hours restart with new av lead)green light again.now i think the main problem was solved by removing the clamps but found another that might not be so well known, the heatsink is not milled level it cant sit flush on the gpu/cpu's

  • so why do i need 32 washers when u used 8? and do i need to make the holes big enough for the screws head to fit thru like other vids?

  • I did this like i already told...and now a week pass and i got E74 error OMFG and i CANT fix it

  • Good tutorial but bad spelling worst then mine!

  • Thank you for this tutorial!

helped me fix my friends XBOX

    NO PROBLEM!!!!!

  • this work for falcon motherboards?

  • what happens if i did tht and it still freezes? but only online?

  • i never use my xbox and it got E73 (the ethernet problem) but i dont have xbox live

  • I prefer the towel trick it works easier, better, and faster!!!!!!!

  • @Tsquad7535 And Murders Your Xbox Easier, Better, And Faster!!!!

  • listen people i did all of this to perfection and it works for awhile then goes back to e74 error again thers no fixing i for good also towel trik does the same temporary fix so anyway i hope the new xbox that jus came out doesnot hae this problem if so im gonna kill bill gates and fuck his wife infront of him fucking highway robber!!!

  • this is bullshit

  • didnt work for me and i done it right.. :S

  • Hi your website is down! Nice vid.

  • thats 16 nylon not 8 damnnit!, back to the store!

  • Is there any other way that is much easier but not permanent. I live in africa and I cant get those screws

  • @blacksiddis you can get a kit from ebay for $10.00 inc P&P dont spend any more than this as businesses are taking the piss, the all metal kits are best as you dont get that burnt plastic smell, as nylon washers can give.

  • @DARTHMOBIUS Thanks man, but i just bought an Xbox Elite instead, thanks ;=)

  • @blacksiddis, dude take it back the new xbox360S launches on july the 16th ! FOR THE SAME PRICE, 250gb hdd built in wireless LAN plays all the originals & current and will be able to handle the next gen of games too.

  • I already tried all this and a few days later the problem came back so if its not the gpu or the av cables what else could it be because mine has green and red streaks going across the screen and black and white dots aswell.

  • @fran112185 mee too youve profbbrably done the towel or the heatig trick to much

  • @fran112185 that means you've actually snapped or cracked your motherboard.. that symptom happens in computers so yeah ur only option is to send it off

  • I tried that and it works but the e74 error but the e74 is back after 2 days.... I reapply the thermal compound again and still doesn't work...

    any advice

  • @megabarra924 sometimes is your av cable or power on box

  • The penny trick is better nd always works

  • @JOSEEPHFINA If you want to see a penny trick go see David Copperfield, they don't do a freakin thing for your Xbox unless you like to hide your change somewhere no one will find it!

  • WOW...I have seen so many Xbox's destroyed using that technique. The X-clamps don't put too much pressure on the Motherboard. if you take the motherboard out with the X-clamps still attached the heatsynks will usually be loose. It's the 8 black screws that you remove that tighten the heatsynks. once you remove and replace the thermal compound and heat the Xbox put the X-clamps back on and use the 8 black screws to re-tighten the X-clamps it is much easier on you and your Xbox.

  • When I die, I want to die like my grandfather did.

Quietly in his sleep. Not screaming like all his passengers.

  • woohaa!! very nice job bro keep helping people God loves you :]

  • how do u know.. he might be a murder for all u know :P

  • e68 is harddrive

  • Thanks mate that was very easy to follow and it worked

  • Dont use a electric drill just use a screwdriver.

  • @Music4Beats yah to bad the ps3 still has promblems haha

  • @XxXFuNnYm4nXxX yes obviously u fool. every type of computer in the whole world has problems just not as much as xbox 360

  • @XxXFuNnYm4nXxX I've had my PS3 for almost a year with no problems, my 360 which I got this past December already got E 74.

  • @Music4Beats same here!

  • @Music4Beats Um, PS3 breaks too, it's called the YELLOW ring of death.

  • @Tiddlyfish20 plz read the reply to this argument above. obviously it does just not as much as 360

  • @Music4Beats I did read that..... I wrote this so everyone that saw this video and looked at the comments would know that the PS3 DOES break. Because my people need to be told something multiple times ;}

  • @Music4Beats why would you watch a video on how to fix a xbox 360 error if you have a ps3 may i ask??

  • @xFIECKEx my friend told me 2 watch it . he was arguing that its not thath hard 2 fix the red rings.

  • @Music4Beats see this is why your a gay and no one likes u!

  • @Music4Beats ps3 breaks down too, yo.

  • @shaneme3 please read the response above. just not as much as 360

  • @shaneme3 slim doesnt

  • wat cleaning agent did u use?

  • Comment removed

  • I just put my hand on the back of the Xbox, and when hot air comes out I just let it sit for 30 mins. If it is cool air then I can play more, it hasn't failed me yet ^_^.

  • @TheRagingBlast go ps3 =3

  • @TheRagingBlast i just feel the side and make sure its not to hot.

  • @TheRagingBlast how many times you done it?

  • god i have this god damn problem so i just gave up and got a ps3 personally i prefer aa system that can guarantee that it works for a long time withought getting analy BUTTraped serious..

  • @24stephers its is. when i did this as well i did not over heat it. just put it together and played for 4 months then red rings of death. with out turning it off. i placed it in a hot room coz im in AU over heatd in secons. let it cool down and fix forever. now it over heats with the 2 rings and no 3 red rings. in AU xbox360 drop like fly's so air-con helps. sorry for shit spelling just got up lol

  • how i fixed it was smash it and burn it then plugged it back in and wallah

  • ok i mounted the heatsyc to the bord to the metal case and it works fine less heat XD sweet and smple

  • can i mount the heatsyc to the bord with out the metal case being connected or is it better ur way ???

  • How much more efficient is this than using the pennies or square pieces if aluminum? How long will the penny/aluminum fix work compared to this?

  • hey you know the drill tip ho many mm tick to fit the 5mm screws

  • what?

  • @CrazyTO2 yeah it's the techno ring of death

  • does this warp your board like any, other e74 rrod error fix may i ask ? after how many, say 6 months of use after the break down ? write back asap !!!!

  • the overheating makes the board str8. the reason xbox360's rrod is that the x-clamps warp the board. this fix makes the board stay str8.

and for time span it all depends on many factors.

  • @devilsreject78

Nah bullshit, overheating is just a cheap attempt to reball the gpu

  • @devilsreject78 I have this set up on my sons xbox,It has the e74 error on it! So this bullshit dont work!!!!!!!!

  • any walmart, true value home center, any basic hardware store or store that sells this item. we also sell complete kits with everything you need on our website, the link is in the "More Info" section of this video page

  • #5 8mm

  • after you over heat the system when you put it back together the fan shroud needs to be properly replaced so that the system does overheat

  • I dont understand I'm trying to follow this video but i am confused when it says to put 1 nylon ring on the outside of the motherboard and then 1 on the inside but it says you only need 8 but you're asking to put on 16?

  • yes it was a small error when i made this video you need 16 nylon washers not 8 as stated

  • I tried this today and it worked.. though when i put the case back on and closed it the fan is very loud. Is this normal in some cases? when i first got it on the fan was spinning normal but it was out the case.

  • can any1 comfirm this fixes the e74 error ?

  • the e-74 error is a video error and this will help it but there are easier fixes to. see my other videos for one that shows you a fix without taking your 360 apart

  • Comment removed

  • Nice Video & Thanks For The Fast shipping On The Tool Kit!

  • and u need to change 8 to 16 for the nylon washers ^_^

  • i will be releasing a new top of the line repair kit soon. that you will only need to do one time and your xbox will be fixed forever with no other "e" errors or the rrod

  • plz reply can you open the xbox t10 torx screws with something else thats easier to find?

  • maybe a small Phillips i also got a small str8 driver to work to.

  • whats a str8 driver could you show me a picture?

  • a very small straight [ str8 ] screw driver like a micro driver will work

  • well thts not complicated at all........ i think ill have an expert try it

  • Its very Simple Really check out our store and forums for tools-supplies & help post your questions there and get a great response with in hours or minutes

  • oooh this looks scary. Im still at the turn off and and unplug everything then turn on leave on till auto shut off wait 5 min. hook up and turn on.
