echo and the bunnymen.....what can i say!......what can i say!...........................ok i can say: THE PERFICTION ITSELF. i can listen to their music everyday every munite and i will never be bored. my favourite band along side with depeche mode since 1982.
I can't remember if I've thanked you for posting this already. This is my favorite version of all I've heard. Live In Liverpool has some great performances. Thank you.
I just love that other wordly wet sound....this could be a form of space travel...or should be. I've heard perfection is boring but somehow I can still play this over and over and over...probably cuz it is beyond perfection.
There is something really sad about this footage, even though it's just them on tour. Maybe because they're young, maybe it's because it's grainy, maybe it's the song with it, or maybe it's because Pete's in it but I can't help but feel sad when I watch it. I used to prefer the versions with the fast drumming but this is now my favourite version of this song.
Saw them for the 'umpteenth' time the other night @ Brixton, sell-out gig. Mac was on great form, joking with the crowd. They still sound as tight & great as when I saw them back in the 80's. So many bands from that decade now sound terrible, ( Sisters of Mercy ! ), but the 'Bunnymen' have not lost a thing !. Played this, my fav track
@onecatfromhell They have released new albums Last one was the fountain .....not like their old stuff but still really good! I have to agree with you though, I wish I could go back i time :-)
I will never understand how is the fucked fact that great bands like that are so underrated and subestimated... well, I´m myself a big fan from Sisters of Mercy and Mission UK both, but I arrive to the conclussion that they borrowed this introduction (or Wayne H. do it, may be?) from them... just listen first this awesome song and immediately after listyen to "Wasteland"... and we could talk later...
@xRottenAlienx Calm down you tool.!!! When sounds make contact with the ear either pleasant ,unpleasant or neutral feelings will arise.Dont get carried away.
all my colours turn to clouds is a wonderful line...whole piece is wonderful bunnymen...there are lots of comments about the nonsense sounds these days and sometimes you just have to agree that there was some truly great music around once...upon a time
I agree borgmeister....Saw these lads in concert in Norfolk,VA shortly after the release of 'Ocean Rain':superb!...One of the all-time tightest bands since the Velvets themselves. But there still is great music. You just have to rummage for it.
Nice one dizzypuppy - I certainly meant no disrespect to any other band ( I'm a singer / songwriter myself and it's a cut throat business ) my angst is aimed at the money making moguls of the industry who are the ones who decide who the mainstream get to listen to - thank the lord for new technology which allows artists more freedom
I'm also amazed at the fact that someone who used to shout "f... the mainstream" live on national TV now delivers his band's new album through kids' chocolate eggs and what have you.. :-)
Yet, it's still true that the same band makes some good songs. Mac and people like him have denied that for too long, and that's probably one of the reasons why they remained where they were. At least the other guys were humble about what they did.
Well in Europe, there are eggs made of chocolate marketed for kids that open up and have some sort of toy in them. They're usually made in Germany and called "Kinder Surprise".
You know, I agree. I know who you mean by "superbands" and I don't have the same opinion, I think "they" had a lot of good songs too. But the Bunnymen were really something else and didn't get discovered the way they should.
thanks for your comm' adevezar.i coudln't have put it better myself.i KNOW they were the best group because i've been a fanatic of their music from 1980.also because i too am a Scouser.born and bred.they make me feel very proud.
i'm agree with you for some points, but i think joy division inflenced Echo in their debut. for example this fantastic song could be influenced by joy division's 'the eternal' and 'atmosphere'... But it's false to think joy div could have all invent. Cure, Echo, Joy division, Banshees. It was the movement. merchandising yes, but Tony wilson and his pub was often genius, and factory wasn't rich. But fuck all that, the four first bunnymen's LP are just genius! RIP Pete
Heaven up here is a master piece of music. As JD Closer and Unknown Pleasures. I like also Chameleons one of the bands that influenced Echo. I don't think that what JD want it was not their mythification. As the New Order proved. Of course it was a movement around record industry. Same industry that created frauds after the success of the Sex Pistols.
In Echo, Chameleons, Piostols, JD, New Order, Cure, Siouxie, some others, i found some intention to music and to life.
My point is that some of the bands, according about what i know (i'm from Portugal) were an oportunirtuy to music industry as predators construct a fashion, a movement.
Malcolm Mclaren knew that.
The factory was pure, they don't even had contracts.
But all most major labels were predators.
And Who cares?
Music it what remains.
Echo was a great band, i still listen almost everyday.
Good for you spellboundsiouxsie. The Bunnymen represent a great time in early 80's UK young life in Liverpool. Anyone who does not know that must not have been alive back then. They were brilliant. Their live performances were unbelievable, nothing could match them at their best.
Thanks for posting this! I love this song, and the entire HEAVEN UP HERE album, which is one of E&BM's finest work. This song is haunting and the video is a fitting and loving tribute to a great drummer.
Incredible this video - Pete De'Freitas' finest performance captured as a fitting tribute. i'm assuming this video is Anton Corbijn's work. Anybody know any different?
This great version comes from 2001's concert in the LIPA which sadly, for obvious reasons, does not feature Pete de Freitas. Out of so many choices my favourite version is the Echo & The Burundimen version from WOMAD, available on the 4 disc "Crystal Days" collection. As for the video, this could be by any one of Anton Corbijn, Bill Butt or Jake Brockman. I think that it is related to some footage which appears on the old "Pictures on My Wall" vhs compilation.
there is a really good version of it in "the Gothic Box" if you dont have it, check it out on ebay!!! it also includes a dvd with the vid. 4 "killing moon"
since no one else is gonna comment on this video i guess i will. i love this song. there is something very haunting about it. echo and the bunnymen were an awsome band.

The Bunnymen were simply incomparable.
They will live forever because of their music - long after some of the hyped so called superbands are but a distant memory.
I saw them many times in the early 80's and they moved me like no other band before or since.
