why did they stop making them did the new camaro replace it in the chevy line up? i guess it did. thts ashamed monte carlo were nice looking cars all the way to the end:)
The best ones were built from 1970 - 1977. After they down sized them, they were never the same. The early 1990's were nothing more than a two door Lumina.
The SS's you show for '83 and '84 are not good representations of those years. For those two years only White and Blue was available as an external color. Also the two you show have "aero" mirrors, which weren't available until the '86 LS and '87/'88 SS.
Pretty cool video other than that an the Petty Regal !
Whoops. That scene with Richard Petty's STP sponsored #43 was a Buick Regal, which he used briefly before switching over to the Pontiac Grand Prix. Of course, they all had the same BM chassis underneath with GM "corporate" (i.e. Chevy small block) V-8 under the hood.
I like 70-72, 86 with T Tops, and 07. The rest are pretty ugly.
Chevy should have started making the Monte Carlo to compete with the Dodge Challenger in 2009 with that retro throwback look. That would have been so cool. and Ford could have come back with the Gran Torino or something.
I only like the 71-73. My instructor has an 86 with a 355 in it for dirt track tracking. Every possible thing is stripped away for weight reduction. Gatta have that acceleration. Even the windshield is chicken wire. No lights, 1 sheet metal seat and a hole cut for the shifter.
I love monte carlos have had 2 of them a 1981 and my current 1979 ss Monte carlo... My favorite of all time.... Dropped a 350 tranny and engine.. with posi traction and it runs like a bat out of hell.... Monte Carlos are the best.... Love my 1979 SS
I have an '07 and I absolutely love it! I do agree however that Chevrolet would have done better had they made them RWD. I also wish they would have not discontinued them because they were really starting to get it right in '06-'07. I really wanted one but I wanted a new car so I had to sacrifice and get a used one just to get my Monte Carlo but no regrets, it's in great condition and I absolutely love it!! GREAT CAR!!!
@ThaBoiFromIL As much fun as a newer RWD Monte from that time would've been, I have to say the FWD models did well in their own respect. They were actually alot faster than given credit for. They were actually faster than a good chunk of older Monte's, if not all of them, while using 2 less cylinders usually (the exception being the 2006-2007 SS 5.3L V8)
Its a shame they discontinued them. They were finally starting to get it right with the 06 and 07 models. All they had to do was make it rear wheel drive and make a manual tranny for it. Maybe once GM gets back on track they will start making them again.
1970-72 Monte was perfection... the SS from the '80s almost matched it's awesome. '95-99 was OK, 2000+ performed pretty nice, but... it looked too big for a FWD car.
i have an 86 LS... 73,xxx miles... nothing rides like those cars.. check out mine "1986 chevy monte carlo ls aka mr. magoo

They oughta make the 2010s alot beefier. Like the charger or so and of course rwd and about 350 hp. Make it compete with the new SHO
