@jayman81424 that's what the m44's are known for, more reliable than the m42/ its the same thats in bmw's old eco car the 318. Theyre known for having 250,000+ miles and still being able to drive them just as hard as if it was brand new, just take decent care of it.
Yeah...i got one too! But now im wanna sell it.I remove the catalyst, wich was realy a great idea. put on a k&n 57i Airflow... and u will feel much more power.the opening move is much better than it was before. ;-)
@juandavidgon no, because the 1.9 engine got only one lambda and this is placed before the catalyst. just destroy the catalyst, replace it, put on the lambda back in place and it should work without problem.
@Rio356 Hell yeah, dude. The later model MZ3 Roadsters actually came with the S54s. The Ms are built off of the same chassis as the 1.9s. All they did was put in ABS/ASC and widened the rear end really.
@jayman81424 I'm not sure it they're supplied anymore, but a company called Downing Atlanta makes a bolt on supercharger kit for the 1.9s. If you can find one, they will cost you a small bit, but are worth it in the power gain.
Yea I was thinking of buying one, but I heard it could be a handful to drive, heard that the car loses its back end a lot, and that in the rain its tough to keep it in a straight line. Please correct me if I'm wrong, which hopefully I am.
I'm not sure what you mean by "handful" but I have driven it in heavy rain and it was fun. One thing about the Z3 is, you will feel every bump! And your CD may skip..this is common apparently. It's what you would expect from any Roadster. Test drive it first, and see if it resonates with you.
"handful" as in sliding around, a bit hard to control if you get what I'm saying. Yea, I'm trying to find some low mileage ones, and I'm willing to pay under 13k, since I can get a Z4 for like 3 grand more. So I need to decide what I want.
Exactly testacorsa. On the UK M roads we have three lanes where only the outside lane is for overtaking. Most people think the middle lane is for driving at the speeed limit, the overtaking lane is for going a little faster and the inside lane is for slow trafic!
What happens is you get an overused outside lane, a heavily congested middle lane and an un-used inside lane. Unless someone decides to set an example every now and then by obliterating everyone at warp speed in the inside lane o-0
Sadly I don´t think setting an example will help much - neither does honking the horn, or flopping the finger ;-)
What I really think should be happening is the police taking this problem seriously, and hand out some fines. The fines alone will pay for the policework, AND... try thinking about all the money that could be saved on road building, if the traffic flows better, as it clearly would.
Very true, although i think most people really don't have any idea that they are doing anything wrong. It's ignorance more than anything else really. I'm not familiar with roads abroad but the driving skill in the UK in general is at a very poor level. Tailgating is one of the biggest issues here really. There is an A road i use everday about 15miles long and there is a serious accident on it everyday caused by tailgating at excessive speed during rush hours. it really pisses me off
If you think driving skill in the UK is at a very poor level, you should come to Florida sometime. These people don't know the meaning of lane control (probably because the driving test is taken in a parking lot!), and on the 3 lane interstate, HGV's are allowed in all lanes. It is a very bad setup, and the UK motorway system and level of driving is heads above it. I've spent 20yrs in each country.
You know i don't really have that much experience with driving abroad so it's good to hear from someone who knows both. It's scary to think driving standards are worse in some countries than they are in the UK but it doesn't suprise me.
Be careful and keep safe is all I can say, it sounds like a nightmare!
You're right though, something should be done. We often have electronic road signs that say "Don't Hog The Middle Lane" but weather it works or not is another matter :)
I think you are right about the ignorance In Denmark it is definately also down go selfishness and laziness. Some people also suffer from the "police syndrom" - They will not pull over because they are going the speed limit. What ever the reason it is frustrating as hell. Tailgating deosn´t happen so much here any more. If it does - block you brakes for an instant, and enjoy the panic expression on the cocks face in the rear view mirror (sure you know that one already ;-)
I have to give you a thumbs up for that comment because it's spot on the money. People who think that because they are doing the speed limit they can hog the outside lanes drive me crazy. I usually just let tailgaters carry on and when i get a clear stretch of road open the turbo up and leave them standing, although I might invest in some heavy duty rear bull bars too and write off a tailgater every now and then on the way home from work :)
nice work missing the trooper, i've been through that stretch leading on to 87 near crossgates many times and there's often a cop there--careful coming the other direction as the limit lowers to 45 mph for those lanes--and great car!
thats why bmw are so fun to drive. the manuals says it all, "the ultimate driving machine" so don't own one cuz there only for real drivers! and i own one!!!
i drive a 1.9 too. but i live in germany, and i can drive as fast i want... what is the limit in the usa? anybody can tell me that? the song is from WEEZER, called: say it aint so. from the blue album.
donysworld "and i can drive as fast i want... what is the limit in the usa?"
its usually like 55-65MPH (92-108KPH)..well it is in massachusetts. but nobody does the speed limit over here so its really like 70-80ish (117-133KPH)
Yep you can put an M3 engine in a 1.9 Z3 as BMW did it with the later Z3 models but it would quite an undertaking. You would probably have to change the braking system, suspension, gearbox, driver aids, wiring, exhaust system, as well as the drive shafts and differentials and that's before you consider larger wheels and body work to accomodate. Even then you would be missing the M-trim! You have to ask yourself would it be worth doing it?
Continued.. However, as flamemaster has pointed out the Z3 in this video is supercharged! I have no experience with supercharged BMWs but i've heard good things about them and i would say without a doubt this would be a better alternative to a S50B32 conversion. I've heard the kits aren't too expensive, not too much trouble to install and offer good performance. It's highly unlikely to be anywhere near as fast as a B32 lump but another 50 or 70bhp should be no problem.
Thanks for the info. I just bought one and I love it, but the problem is that it's way too slow. I am even consider putting a 2.8 straight six engine it it. What do you think about that?
Weezer!

lol, that white Pontiac was a GTP that you passed. He could've been an ass and cut you off, those GTPs are very quick.

Why are people always use the outside lane for cruising? That lane is for overtaking!!!
Frustrating that you have to overtake inside - I do it all the time as well.
It´s really simple - once you reach the speed you wanna go, then you move to the inside lane, and let the faster cars go by.
That people don´t move in, is the number one reason I get frustrated in traffic.
