@macrossner yes its a plastic crank but mine hasnt broken yet....but i do crank it carefully....not wimpy just take care to hold it right and crank consistently.

I like that this has a ton of features (weather radio, short wave, am, fm, solar, dyno,...), but I opted for the older Eton FR-250 for its superior reliability and classic design. I might still get an FR 500 or FR 1000, if one is on sale......I just love the older design Eton radios better.

@tigerclub18 not sure if the dynamo recharches batteries....i dont think so, just the battery pack itself. but recharchables are a good thing in itself.

Good review. I just picked the ARC FR-500 model cause its all Radio Shack had. It sucks its white but I can live with that. Did you have to get the phone adaptor tip from Eton for your phone?

i should have mentioned that....tv is out in may of 2009....short wave is a meter or band like fm or am frequency modulation...khz mhz etc. uhf is ultra high frequency and vhf is very high frequency. thanks for watching
