The Patrol is a true offroader - like the wrangler, only bigger (the new Patrol is built on the Infiniti QX56 platform). It has front and side airbags but no curtains. I'm not worried about side crashes as the car is quite high and heavy (2550kgs). We have some Cruzes here in Europe, they even look quite good, but it's a small car. Take care, mate.

A side impact isn't going to fare well even if you have a damned Rolls Royce, okay? Foreign cars used to have to meet American standards just to be shipped over here, because the European standards were so low when it came to safety. its VERY hard for a car to get a good score for side impacts. A front impact you have a good 5-7 feet of absorption before the object starts reaching you, they can control what collapses and what doesn't so you're less likely to get hurt. A side impact, you have half a foot between you and the object... The only thing I can think of is them making the sides of vehicles extremely sturdy with air bags to prevent you being crushed inside the cab..
