@SiggasFan24 Well, I looked at it again...I don't see JJ or James there...Michael's not there...so it would only be Thelma or Florida...and it dosen't look like their physical builds. Thelma was an extremely statuesque, muscular and in shape dancer...I don't see that walking by there.
"...keep'in your head above water...make'in a way when you can...temporary lay-off's...good-times...easy-credit rip-off's...good-times... sctatch'in and survive'in...good-times...hang'in in a jolla?" Now hold it, hold it..."hang'in in a jolla?" What the hell is that? I even had the closed-captioning on the TV on when this part came around, (with subtitles below,) and it read as *UN-INTELLIGIBLE* when this "hang'in in a jolla" came up! Ghetto-people please tell this white man what that means! =(
@wewacian But that makes no sense..."hang'in in a jury." It always sounded like "jolla," whatever that was. So it must be something similar to "jolla." It could have been "colla," (as in collar;) represenative of the man's oppression of the hood. I ought' to know because I'm white...just like the man himself! But...that's still a bit of a stretch. It dosen't flow with "temporary lay-off's," or "easy credit rip-off's," let alone "scratch'in and survie'in." This is an inner city mystery! =O
@MegaBigdawg75 ..well in the words of the Dolemite..."God-Damn! 30 years of wondering didn't yeild a thing...until Mega-Big-Dawg done gave me the bling!" Hmmm...well, it sounds like Rudy Ray Moore...but "hangin' in a chow line" makes perfect sense and fit's right into the song. Even the closed captioning on the TV didn't break it down so I knew that mysetry was a tough one! Thanks from the white side Mega-Big-Dawg! "What it izzz...what it wuzzz...and...what it will beee..." Much love! =D
Just looking out of the window, Watching the asphalt grow,. Thinking how it all looks hand me down, Good times! Good TImes! Keeping your head above water.... Making a wave when you can, Temporary Layoffs... Good Times, Easy Credit Rip offs, Good TImes, Ain't we luck we got 'em Good Times......
i have alot of friends who grew up in projects, and spent alot of time in and out of projects while hanging with them. i didnt grow up in the time of this show but this little ending video always gives me chills whenever i see it on reruns. Show is timeless.
@SeekeroftheOnes I think "hangin' in a job" would've been better; still a great TV theme song. The episode which sticks in my mind was the tainted meat at the supermarket episode where Flo cooks some of the tainted meat and offers it to the manager of the establishement. Classic.
@Love4SK i mean i not makin a mainstream song its more underground like NUJABES or NOMAK you will understand me better if you check these two guys out
so many depressing events occurred in this tv show...who cannot forget the time when janet jackson aka penny was badly abused by her mother with a hot iron...man...and florida evans ol' saying damn daaamn daaaaaamn lol and jay jay's...dineno mannnnnnnnnnnne LMAO...always watched this show with momz and family...coming up during childhood...
@xtremeni99a yeah, soooo true to many depressing events.
To me, it seemed like James was to UPTIGHT, Florida was to HOLIER THAN THOU, Thelma couldn't figure out WHO she was OR WHAT she wanted, JJ was just plain STUPID, the ONLY one who had HALF a brain was Michael.....
Willona was the NOSEY NIEGHBOR with GOSSIP.....
That's just how I feel about it....
To me the show "Progresseed" when James died, they got"better" (so to speak) I liked when Flo got with that guy who was Michael's boss
@Getrealpeeps "........Thinkin how it ALL looks hand-me-down (Good times) Yeah E Yeahhh (Good times) Keppin ya Head above water..makin a wave when you cannnn..Temporary lay offs! (Good Times) Easy credit rip offs (Good timmmmeeess) Aint we lucky we got em? (Dun dun dun dun dun-dun!) GOOD TIMMMEESSSSS YYEEAAAHHHHHH!"
The end credits always sounded like pure gospel to me. I KNOW I hear Esther Rolle in there along with Jan'et Dubois in there. I don't know if people realize that Jan'et wrote or co-wrote and I believe performed the theme song to The Jeffersons. Norman Lear has so many interwoven actors and pieces - and it all started from All In The Family, which led to Maude which led to the Good Times spin-off. Amazing to me.

Loved this show as a kid. There are just no shows of this quality anymore. I related to this family even though I'm white...we were very poor in the 70's, but we always stuck together.
When I was a kid, I thought Florida and Thelma were walking during the closing credits at 0:23. The stout woman and the girl with the fro looks like them but I know it's not them now.
@pinkyzoey Jay Leno and Dave Letterman where joke writers for Jimmy Walker at that time. Yeah, two White guys where doing the jokes for a black ghetto youth.

Loved this show as a kid. There are just no shows of this quality anymore. I related to this family even though I'm white...we were very poor in the 70's, but we always stuck together.
Always wanted James Evans as my dad. Good times!

Back when Jay and Dave where buddies.

@pinkyzoey Jay Leno and David Letterman also used to write joke lines for Jimmy Walker on this show back when they were friends.
You can see a video youtube of them talking about it on the Late Late Show in the early 80s.
