To me, it is symbolizing the feeling of loneliness with a slight shimmer of hope. It is that feeling that you get when you see or hear something so beautiful, that no matter how depressed you are feeling, you can't help but admire it. It makes me think about walking in a foreign place. Everyone around me is happy, and understands eachother. But nobody notices me, though they see me walking. It's very hard to explain, as sorrow is.
@Kaesebrotsaft My favorite piece of all time from Mr. Sakamoto. But actually the title means "Beautiful Blue Sky" Endless flight was a different piece that came out with his by Gustavo Santoalalla who composed the score for Babel.
if you call yourself artist you dont mess with this classic music tune. so trey song they are no artist but flop-this. its for all does no talent wannebe musicians.
To me its an expression of Loneliness, but not by choice. Amazing piece of music. The segments played by the cello are are like memories while the main line (life) is going on, which puts the piano out of ease. very well composed. Second Favourite my Ryuichi Sakamoto :)
@amanesayuri to be honest first place changes alot but right now i think it is back to Merry christmas mr lawrence... mainly for one reason the part I call the Resolve.. it sends tingles down my spine everytime I hear it.
the part i mean is at 2:46 on the you tube version
Ryuichi Sakamoto Trio 1996 - Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
Gracias Maestro Sakamoto! :D
as everyone may know, Mr. Sakamoto is currently having his North American tour and I was just wondering, does he usually play this piece at every single one of his concerts? 'Cause the main reason I would go is to have a chance to actually experience this lovely, lovely piece live, a piece that no words could ever describe.
This is the least thought out argument I've ever come across on Youtube. The idea is just too massive to be conveyed in the manner your'e suggesting. Hahaha
but then they go back in unison as if representing the followers who still go by the church (or a new generation) an eventually the piano falters, as if not being able to explain itself
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i think it's about religion, the piano represents christianity and the strings the christians an they go in unison for the first half but then the'res the key changes, an the strings go outv key with the piano, an the strings sound shocked and disgusted like, (as if finding out about all the paedophilic activity and abuse in the church, or looking back on it's cruelty)
No, its about appreciating a beautiful blue sky. Its what the title means- "Beautiful Blue Sky." The violin and cellos are the wind. The piano the inner thoughts of the person. The wind picks up, there is a strong gust, and a storm comes along. The storm recides, and the person falls asleep or possibly passes away.
@Mymothercanrun best interpretation of this song I've heard. I had a dream once where I was floating in the air, it was fall and leaves were falling all around me. All I could see were the dead trees and the sky above. This song is the accompaniment to that dream.
Siempre me ha parecido un gran tema. El hecho de que no sea fácil y algo triste o melancólico lo mantiene en mi memoria. Quizás sea expresión de esperanza desde una visión realista.
Its atonal. Atonal music views every note as equal, so they abandon harmony, and thus notes don't seem to mesh together in a traditional way. Think of it as a strong gust of wind, a dark cloud over head, or a sudden summers rain storm. (title means Beautiful Blue Sky)
Ryuichi, only you can make me feel in heaven with your music. You are so gifted, omg. Would you consider coming to South America. I guess I wiil have to go to New York or Tokio to listen to your wonderful music. I became addicted to your music. You are unprecedented and so outstanding as a musician. I just don't feel like working any more, but listening to you. By the way thank you, yokoxs4all, for uploading this.
I love...the beauty of this song. I love how you get a sense of disorientation... Its like.. the sky is changing. Violently, but in the end it turns out alright.
This song is pure ecstasy, and I have yet to find any other song that sends chills to the depths of my core.
@yokoxs4all Pwned. But no seriously, he's right. The way you worded it made it sound like he took it from Babel. Which is completely wrong. >.< Ryuichi Sakamoto composed the song WAAAAY before the movie was even an idea in the writer's head. :P
amazing piece of music. I heard it on the film "Autopsy" and had to find out what composed it. It's slightly "out there" in places for my personal preference but it's still very beautiful.
i used to hate that part where the violin and cello go haywire. but, now i think it's necessary here, because it interrupts that rhythmic melody, then starts you over. it balances the piece because it's mad, and disastrous, contrasting the softer side of the piano.
really moving. its often the simple melodies that have the greates effect. re:jazz covered this with a dnb vibe. worth a hear i think. ;D go to their myspace.

Several days ago I watched the film again. This time this song was forever embedded in my head and I rushed to my piano to find the sequence of notes that makes this song so powerful and moving. I struggled for several more days recalling it from memory and then I found this composition on You Tube. I will learn it note for note. This song is truely a gift to all... It is special indeed...
