Very good review! I only care about VIDEO....whch DSLR is the best for VIDEO on the market right now....not just among Canon's?? Is the 7d better for video than the Panasonic GH2?
The 550D does everything that the others do apart from the odd feature most users wouldn't bother with..Unless you have money to burn to get the 7D what's the point on wasting all that cash on a big bulky body that is more for macho appearance than practicality!..My 550D is awesome..my mate has a 7D & he is left wondering what his can do that mine cannot..its nit picking in features BUT NOT in price!..get a 550D & a decent L lens..oh and get the 50 mm - F/1.8 - Canon EF its a great lens & cheap!
Excellent comparison ... this is the first time i am viewing your comparative video and i must say i am hooked !!! Can't wait to see the rest. Thank you for making it so interesting, knowledgeable and something that really helps decision making. God bless !
Initially, I was having buyer remorse, but after watching this video, and others like it, I feel better about buying the 60D vs the 7D. My issue was the 7D's durability, burst rate, and 100% view finder exposure versus that of the 60D. But after watching a couple video's posted by "ArtoftheImage" and "Digital Rev TV," I realized that the 60D is just perfect for my needs. I want to thank "ArtoftheImage" for advice on lenses for the 60D. Thank you so much for the help!
I wanted to get 60D but didnt had the budget for it, and boom 600D came out, and what a cam it is. that swivel isnt a gimmick, it's a creative tool!!!
It was true that 550D became a lot of cheaper right after 600D came out ..I have bought my 550D and I am very happy with that ..I am not much into video on DSLRs but i believe all of these cameras are good choice to start with ;)
For a couple months I said to myself I was getting the 60d. Then on a whim I said to myself that I would get the T3i. Reason being I will eventually get the 70d anyway, so I'll save some money for now... but dang.
The Canon T3i also has manuel audio controls (huge if you want to plug in stereo XLR mics into the camera to record audio and video simultaneously - the T2i and 7D do not have this feature).
Also, the Canon T3i has a 10x digital video zoom - another MAJOR feature that the T2i, 60D, and 7D do not have.
@filmmanvick16 Are you kidding me I owned a T2i and yes it had 10x digital zoom and sold it at retail price to some fool on craigslist used a year old and now I own a 7D and it too has 5x,10x digital zoom
I got the opportunity last weekend to test the 60D whereas I am looking for a new camera to replace my Nikon D60. Too often I took photos that where not as sharp as they should have been. I used the Canon EF-S 17-85mm 1:4-5.6 IS USM lens which is very nice and versatile. I have ruled camera shake out although some of them where taken at rather slow speed. So it looks like the focusing is the problem. I tend to blame it on the lens rather than the camera. What do you think?
I've got the T2i and I absolutely love it. Since I'm not into video, the varying angle screen on the T3i isn't necessary so for those considering the T3i and are not too fussed about movie recording, go with the T2i.
He didn't mention that the 7D has a CF card. You can get bigger faster CFs cheer than the big fast SDs. Not only does this let you hold down the trigger longer in burst mode (good for sports), but, if you shoot video, you can get full resolution HD and run the camera longer.
@imani25 because Full HD 1080p video files are extremely large and a five minute video can be even 500MB and the speed of upload depends on the size of the file and the upload speed of your internet.
i still cant choose, i need something for shooting fast running/ action scenes and video editing/vfx scenes. i have a limit of $1700-1850, i kind of want the 600d to be able to buy accessories and have a complete setup. 7d and 550 are kin od out of the mix for me and i dont know if i should get the 60d or 600d. the 600d is newer so it might be better. and i heard didital rev say 600d is better for video, but art of the image disagreed, so im confused and cant choose. can anyone help
@hitthedeckstudios watch digital rev for a comp of the 60d and 7d and 550D, also in terms of build quality the 60d is a bit better, and really the only big change compared to the 550d and the 600d is the swivel screen. both cameras have the same amount of mic control. however the 7d is weather proof and in terms of stills is really the better camera. however no mic setting adjustments. id say go 60d newer isn't necessarily better especially when it comes to canons.
Good video, u just forgot to mention about the crop zoom 3x-10x feature on the t3i That was one of the major reason why I bought it, otherwise I would have choosen the 60d
@ArtoftheImage WOW, i've wasted a lot of time watching a lot of professional reviews on these Canon's and other cameras but in this one video, you explain each model in comparison to the others in such an easy to understand way and go over all the important factors an average joe considers....price and specs! Thank You!
@TheEnglishBlokey - Nope, they all have the same sensor, and therefore the same low light performance. The 60D or T3i is actually the better video DSLR as they have the articulating screen.
@BenHughesStudios what splits me between the 550D and the 600D is the audio part. However, the 500D wins for me if Magic Lantern is safe because, I heard it voids the camera's warranty.
Now I am considering the 60D after watching another vid here. I just want a cam with pro or semi pro vid features and all aspects related (manual override, HD vid, ext. mic.)
I just wanted to point out that if you buy the T2i, you have the option of installing Magic Lantern firmware. That will give you more options like selectable white balance, more ISO settings, manual audio controls, a histogram, zebra stripes, and other useful features.
i am still thinking should i get t1i or t2i or t3i regarding still photos what is your suggestion,,money versa is another matter?now they are selling t1i for 700 $ and t2i for 800 but t3i for 1000 $.please advice.
another question, does t1i comes with remote or not?
and why angle montor is goos for videography>?can it be done through screen?
I just wondered; I'm going for the 60D because of its capability to turn of automated gain level, the T2i and T3i cant do that. And thats a problem because you will get a annoying hissing sound. Anyways, I'm thinking that i should buy the Canon 60D and the Rode Shotgun.. Or? I'm unsure, i thought you could give me some advice, I'm going for film production. Thats why this is so important for me.
@waggygee I have no idea :) maybe marketing stuff? Or they have been making series with numbers in Europe and they keep it like that (same with the rest)... but the question remains, why they make it differently.. Or simply to differenciate the package, documentation and firmware (in regards of language, especially those with special characters)

Hi Matt ! I like the review you did here ! Have been comparing between Canon 60D vs Canon 7D and the Nikon D7000. My concern is the memory for video and the heat generated from the sensor. I need to record lengthy videos, how can record longer ? Which one would you suggest me to buy?
@JBACMILAN - The Nikon D7000 records longer video. I also find it doesn't get as hot and shut down the way my Canon 60D and Canon 550D do. The D7000 auto focus is better, and the build quality is also better. Can't go wrong with a Nikon D7000!
@ArtoftheImage the bit rate of the video is not as good as Canon, so I understand. The Nikon records up to a measly 17mbps AVCHD, not good if you're hoping to use the video professionally. The 7D records 48mbps. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@TheMoo1231 - The D7000 has manual control as well, and the Nikon D7000 video quality is very good. In fact, the D7000 has better color and white balance during video recording than the 60D or 7D do.
@Blubba2014 - I doubt it. More likely the Canon 550D will get crazy cheap before dissappearing altogether. The 60D probably won't drop much until the 70D is rumored or announced.
@jorgeakachico - That's a good question. I suspect the Canon 550D T2i will be on sale for around $600 before it disappears... maybe even $550. Depends on what the sale + Canon rebates are at the time, and how badly Canon wants to clear the shelves for new models. It's a great deal for a starter DSLR even at today's prices.
This is the exact breakdown I wanted to hear, 16 dislikes are fuckin idiots and top comment of "he said 70 D" is like looking at a nice Benz pull up and saying there is dirt on the tires....hater's... thanks for the video!

So, what I got from this is:
1. If you don't have a big budget, go straight for the 550D.
2. If you wan't a better camera than the 550D, never mind the 600D, and go straight for the 60D which has more features than the 600D.
3. If you don't mind price & If you like dropping your camera (lol), buy the 7D which is stronger and more durable.
Did I miss something ?
AACJenius 6 months ago
Go with a cheaper dslr and buy L series glass instead of going for a 7d if you don't need the eztra 3fps compared to the 60d.
And the 60d is a very good choice.

Hi Matt ! I like the review you did here ! Have been comparing between Canon 60D vs Canon 7D and the Nikon D7000. My concern is the memory for video and the heat generated from the sensor. I need to record lengthy videos, how can record longer ? Which one would you suggest me to buy?
JBACMILAN 1 year ago
@JBACMILAN - The Nikon D7000 records longer video. I also find it doesn't get as hot and shut down the way my Canon 60D and Canon 550D do. The D7000 auto focus is better, and the build quality is also better. Can't go wrong with a Nikon D7000!

@ArtoftheImage the bit rate of the video is not as good as Canon, so I understand. The Nikon records up to a measly 17mbps AVCHD, not good if you're hoping to use the video professionally. The 7D records 48mbps. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@JBACMILAN get the 60d or 550d they have manual control and destroy the d7000 (in video)
TheMoo1231 10 months ago
@TheMoo1231 - The D7000 has manual control as well, and the Nikon D7000 video quality is very good. In fact, the D7000 has better color and white balance during video recording than the 60D or 7D do.

great video! helped alot!
you think the price of the 60d will fall as well when the 600d will be released?
Blubba2014 1 year ago
@Blubba2014 - I doubt it. More likely the Canon 550D will get crazy cheap before dissappearing altogether. The 60D probably won't drop much until the 70D is rumored or announced.

Spectacular summation. I cannot thank you enough for boiling down the specs into such an easy format of advice!

That was very helpful.
I've been looking at every camera BUT the 60D.
With so many models out there, I just overlooked it.
Thanks for the heads up.

Do you have an idea of how low the t2i be and when is the best time to buy right now or when the t3i actually comes out ?help pls
jorgeakachico 1 year ago
@jorgeakachico - That's a good question. I suspect the Canon 550D T2i will be on sale for around $600 before it disappears... maybe even $550. Depends on what the sale + Canon rebates are at the time, and how badly Canon wants to clear the shelves for new models. It's a great deal for a starter DSLR even at today's prices.
