I think you should have either given the guy a nudge or shouted at him. That way he might be a bit more careful in future but if he doesn't know what he just did I'm sure he will do the same again.
Happened to me many times too. Undisciplined pedestrian steps out without looking, not facing traffic. Mobile glued to pedestrian's ear is like a hazard warning light
Man using mobile >> limited attention to anything else >> added risk of silly moves
Amazing how often this happens. Good film. You did well to avoid hitting him.
"a cyclist who jumped a red light" I think not! What careless judgement by yourself. Look again and you will see the traffic lights were set on GREEN and the motor vehicles have actually stopped outside the yellow traffic box as they should.
I didn't say that you did, I said that'll be his impression, as he won't be able to see the green light from his position - just the cyclist moving when the cars aren't
Holding his mobile with his right hand obstructed his view of traffic coming from the right (if he bothered to look), But lets be serious the bloke had full view of the lights - no excuses. Sure his story would of been that a cyclist went thru a red light - due to that reason I have cycle insurance and a camera to back the "story".

I wonder if this incident could be translated into a driving habit of his?

The cars being stopped will most likely lead him to tell the story of nearly being hit by a cyclist who jumped a red light ;)

I think oliciv has a point here- I wonder how many cyclists witnessed "jumping reds" are actually going through greens in heavy traffic.
