  • At least the black kids aren't the FIRST ones to die...

  • This is exactly how I imagined them in the book! :D

  • people r dumb in the book it said rue and thresh had dark skin so they do in the movie u people r stupid

  • she is sooooooo adorable...I will say again...I am DEFINITELY crying in that theater, and my friend thinks you're cute Thresh....but my heart belongs to Finnick :)...so sad since hes a fictional character and all still

  • Rue is my favourite character so I really hope that this actress does her justice. Also I hope I don't start crying so much in the cinema that I run out of tissues.

  • if you guys actually paid attention, you would know that in the book it mentions many times that District 11 has a large black population.

  • Fail iPad type to hold clove like a rag doll and if u can't see he isn't big enough then ur dumb

  • Thresh isnt big enough to hold clove r

  • I live where they're filming <33333

  • Rue is described to have dark skin, wide brown eyes, and brown hair. If you don't remember that from the Hunger Games book then RE READ IT!

  • Ok don't judge me but I imagined Thresh as the a human equivalent of the hulk, and Rue as a little girl with blonde hair and really big green eyes.

  • Sophomore class is goin see this release day! Woohoo! :DDD

  • On December 24 at 8:00 in the morning, a young fourteen year old boy by the name of Scott Johnson was found dead. Doctors couldn't come up with the cause of his death. His mother checked his email to see if she could figure out what happened. Turns out he was stilled signed into MySpace. She found he had fallen asleep after he read and didn't repost a chain letter. If you don't repost this to six other videos a girl with no face will kill you tonight. I don't usually believe this stuff and don'

  • At first I thought that Rue was played by willow Smith.

  • @moemo134 ME TOO! xD

  • I LOVE Thresh he was one of my favorite tributes so I hope the actor doesn't mess him up he's amazing! Rue is so cute she's just how I imagined her and I think will be a great Rue!

  • I know this sounds stupid but when I saw thresh I always imaged someone like Shaq playing him

  • dude im in north carolina!!!!!

  • It's gonna kill me to watch that sweet little girl die.

  • I imagined rue as... Chyna Anne Mclain.. ;D

  • I really like the girl that plays rue she looks EXACTLY like I imagined!

  • She is gonna be the best rue ever!!!

  • rue is AWESOME!I LOVE HER WISTLE!

  • um miss you still have a lot of buttons done up you must have forgotten...

  • RIP rue I'm gonna cry soooooo much *sniffle sniffle* can't wait thought it's gonna be amazing

  • I'm gonna cry when Rue dies ;( Little kids fighting make me sad ;(

  • everybody stop ruining the books in the comments! Some of the book was ruined for me and you don't want it happening to you!

  • omg i love the hunger games but most of my friends think i am crazy about it but NO ONE SHALL MAKE ME STOP LOVEING THE HUNGER GAMES=D

  • The guy who plays Thresh looked like Taio Cruz in the thumbnail.

  • I died inside ... I just don't want to see her die !! ;A; RUEEE *does Rue's four-note mockingjay call*

  • i like the Rue actor but not so sure about thresh

  • Rue is like perfect. ♥

  • While I don't have serious problems with these two playing the roles... I saw Rue as more of a "milky" complexion, more mid-western I suppose, instead of full on black. As well as thinking the actress for Rue would resemble more of what I imagined while reading, wide set eyes, an "innocent" look., if you will. I also just assumed Thresh was white when reading the book, for some reason.

  • @MusicRoxGurl Yeah I thought of Thresh as white when I read the book. And even Rue in my mind was just a lot more tanner than Prim but I think thye've done a good job overall selecting the characters. :)

  • @MusicRoxGurl They've**

  • *SNIFF* *SNIFF* shes seriously ADORABLE......man.....i hope they bring her back in the other movies as flashbacks

  • You guys should watch Columbiana, Amandla Stenberg is in that film, and she's a really good actor. I personally think they got the perfect person to act Rue :)

  • whoever comments 'they're both black' have clearly never read the books... who cares anyways!?

  • GO RUE!! Im going to cry my eyes out when she dies!!!

  • PS I always thought rue would have been black anyway and I think she has people in the west indies... She and I are the same color and I am fully black....

  • WTF! You all are so racist! RUE AND THRESH ARE AFRICAN-AMERICAN! SHUT the FUCK UP! Deal with it and no... Not all lead roles got to white people.... Thats just screwed up screwed up view...

  • @me345435434 i knew thresh was but i didnt think rue was,but i have nothing against that at all

  • Have you seen RUE in colombiana? She's awesome stunt woman for her age.

  • Effie looks EXACTLY as I imagined her in the trailer

  • Why is Rue so cute... *sigh* I'm gonna have to bring a lotta tissues to the movie... T-T

  • DISTRICT 11 PRIDE!!!

  • R.I.P Thresh.

  • the little girl rue fight with slingshot against bow throwing knifes swords trident gosh....i wouldn t go in arena with just slingshot:)))

  • they're both black ... lol

  • @Yourgurlveeka thats the district 11 look, just like the seam kids are black haired and grey eyed and the district 1 people look stunning no matter what

  • 3 words: I LOVE JOSH HUTCHERSON!!! I LOVE HUNGER GAMES!!!

  • i just pictured her indian.

  • I will literally cry my head off when Rue dies even though I'm a year younger than her. If I could, I would go into the movie and stab the District 1 kid to death. With a TOOTHBRUSH.

  • @KoreanPearl1331 omg u just made my day cuz i watched this and read ur comment right after i read about rue dying ;(

  • @KoreanPearl1331 thts marvel i hate him !!

  • @KoreanPearl1331 haha I seriously blurted out a big laugh when I saw the end of your comment. Too funny!

  • @KoreanPearl1331 ha me 2 and I'm 10

  • @KoreanPearl1331 i cried when I read the book and Rue died

  • @ksrelm really? i think they're perfect!

  • xD why are people complaining about her skin colour? Shes LIGHT for a "black" person. Look at her compared to Thresh. I doubt shes even completely black xD I imagined her more threshes colour considering it said DARK brown...she looks just brown :P Im totally okay with that though since Suzanne liked her xD

  • She is great for the role. STUP UP.

  • Rue is adorable! And honestly, some of you people really need to shut up about her race. It's perfectly fine, and there is nothing wrong with the casting.

  • Aww!! Rue is So Cute!! :)

  • rue is way too brown...but she's pretty cute

  • @cozeeozee17 she's supposed to have DARK BROWN skin... she's too light. But if Suzanne liked her, than I bet she'll be perfect as Rue.(: Plus, she's adorable!

  • omg, Rue is ADORABLE!

  • If Twilight can have Team Edward vs. Team Jacob, then all of the Hunger Games fans can have Team Peeta vs. Team Gale. I prefer Peeta. What would you have preferred?

  • @StaceyNicoleee In the books, Gale, if only for the way the characters were written. In the movies, Peeta, on the principle that LIAM HEMSEWORTH MUST DIE

  • @StaceyNicoleee PEETA

  • @StaceyNicoleee no one really wants the whole "team" thing anyway, because THG fans are trying to stay far away from Twilight comparisons. But if we did have teams it would be Team Boy with the Bread and Team Boy with the Snares

  • great choices for thresh and rue

  • In the book i didnt know she was african american but like i thought she was tan but noow thats how i see her Amandla Stenberg will be great!

  • RUE IS SO SWEET! NOOO, I DON'T WANNA SEE HER DIE, EVEN IF HER DEATH IS SO BEAUTIFUL BY KATNISS... DAMMIT, why cute little girls ? aaah

  • When they said dark skin I was imagining tan. Dammit.

  • Reread The Hunger Games, they are supposed to be black!

    Get over it.

  • Rue is so cute!! She's even better than the Rue i imagined when i read the book :DDDD

  • they also made prim cry when she was picked she never cried for herself katniss contionously said she was alot stronger than she was and always made everything seem positive, also katniss is fat wtf? and rue is supposed to be 14 not like 8 they have horrible actors/actresses and alot of changes in words

  • @xdfgnm Prim only cried when Katniss volunteered as tribute. Thats how the book and movie (judging by the trailer) goes. No offense but those are stupid reasons not to see the movie lol.

  • @xdfgnm Rue is 12 Amandla is 13!

  • @xdfgnm So...you read the books 3 times and you still haven't remembered Rue is 12 not 14? Wow.

  • @xdfgnm If you consider Jennifer Lawrence fat then you are obviously in another country as a third of America is obese.

  • @xdfgnm

Rue is 12. and the girl who plays her is 12. you can't have read the book very well to be honest.

  • there's so many reasons im not going to see this movie i read the books 3 times over as soon as each came out i always thought thresh was an interesting charachter and did more with him. The book didn't talk about him much but what we did know was that the book implied he was the biggest in there district his job was to carry hundred of pounds of food continously each day. I have alot more to say but it won't let me i think they should have made him around 270 pounds now the size of gale

  • I think the actress for rue is Perfect but if this film does not do her justice I will seriously go to the director and kick off!!

  • Rue! She's so cute. My second favorite character.

  • rue's character.. made me cry =(

  • I like the casting. Go black people!! JK lol :)

  • I really hope Thresh is gonna look as dangerous and big as in the book, like a real big threat.

  • Omg Rue is so adorable <3

  • i haven't remembered that she was black. all i know that she was like Prim:D

  • The girl who plays Rue is so cute! <3 Can't wait!!!!!!!

  • "And most hauntingly, a twelve-year-old girl from District 11. She has dark brown skin and eyes, but other than that, she's very like Prim in size and demeanor." ―Katniss Everdeen

  • Some of the comments here are idiotic and I'm wondering if we even read the same book. Both Rue and Thresh were described as having dark skin. Not remembering, or interpreting the characters' appearance slightly different is one thing. Being pissed about accurate castings is beyond stupid.

  • there is no use in arguing....just reread the books...i know i am but just for fun. i love the hunger games :)

  • okay i havent read all yall comments but i must reply to the arguments on color. if i remember correctly, this is based on the future america where probably there is no means of distinguished race or ethnicity to fall back on. you are mjust described how you look to the eye. the author said Katniss was olive skin with black hair...think italian. Rue was described as dark or brown i cant remember the words exactly but consider african american...its not that big a deal....well kind of..yeah it is

  • i find it disheartening when looking up fan art for Rue to see many people portray her as Caucasian when it clearly states that she has dark skin in the book. Amandla looks the part not only in terms of physical description but in character as well. There's something very haunting and angelic about her, which suits her perfectly as Rue.

  • To all the "fans" saying they were never described as black and should be white, actually they WERE described as dark-skinned. "The boy tribute from District 11, Thresh, has the same dark skin as Rue, but the resemblance stops there." from page 126 of The Hunger Games. Sorry that Susan Collins isn't an illiterate dumbass and wasn't going to describe them as straight-up "BLACK", sorry if you didn't pay attention to their descriptions, but that's how it is. Rue & Thresh are perfect.Deal with it.

  • I pictured her as an asian.

  • @xTxNarutoxTx I pictured Katniss as Native American "olive skin"

  • 2 be honest, that isnt how i thot katniss looked like... i pictured her tall and dirty blonde

  • the fact that most of u dont want them to be black is stupid...calm the heck down does everyone have to be white, my goodness!

  • I LOVED Amandla Stenberg in "Columbiana". That girl was off the HOOK! I was wishing she had finished the whole movie, even though I understand the character had to grow up at some point. Zoe Saldana just, didn't do it for me.

  • i dont like thresh but i love how rue looks

  • To all you noobs commenting about you didn't know RUE was black, or the author didn't say she was black, is because the author isn't a dumb ass fixated on race like you guys. the author doesn't have to say african american, the book is set in the future, all aspects of race have been probably been wiped out or are no longer relevant. So the author justs describes what she looks like, just like she describes KATINESS. The author never says Katniss is white either!

  • Wow two of the actors arent white and now some "fans" arent as excited for the movie. Really???

Just get over it. They are not going to change the cast to please you and if you look in the book, Thresh and Rue have dark olive skin.

If you dont like the casting, 3 words. Get Over It.

  • Thresh and Rue are supposed to be black. District 11's chief industry is agriculture, which would make most sense if it was placed in the south. Nowadays there are a lot of African-Americans in the southern region of the US, in the future it probably wouldn't be any different. I have no problem with them black or white. Quit your bitchin'.

  • I thought Thresh was white no offense to anyone. I don't think I'm as excited to watch the movie now.

  • @SlipperyIcicle No they said in the book that he was black

  • @ChinchillasForever They probably did, I just pictured him differently. This is why I don't like books being made into movies, the characters image is never the same as you image it.

  • @SlipperyIcicle Aww I know what you mean! They can't really pick characters to please everyone. I'm really upset with the way Effie looked in the trailer. So either way I'm gonna go see it and hopefully it will be ok because the books are amazing

  • @ChinchillasForever I know, it's difficult to please everyone. I know, I'm not sure if they said her age in the book, but I kept picturing her way younger looking. Yeah, they are totally awesome, I hope the movie has alot of the good moments from the book, especially the one where Thresh kills you know who.

  • @SlipperyIcicle I'm gonna have a mental breakdown when I see that little girl die!!!!

  • @MissRandomReviewer Me too, it's really sad. I wish she hadn't of died and some how won with you know who.

  • Please tell me that was a joke. Even if you don't think Thresh is black (even though he is) don't let it effect how excited you are for the movie. The movies are never going to be just like the books, we ALL need to except that. Besides I think they're both perfect.

  • @mitchellgr It's not the fact that his character is black, he could be eletric blue and it wouldn't really change my excitment. The movie is coming out way different then the way I pictured it, which I should of expected. The stuff they are changing is making me less excited, like how there is no Madge in the movie. I know she is not a big character in the book, but she gave Katniss that pin and the pin belonged to a past tribute, now that will be changed.

  • Rue looks perfect.

  • thresh is perfect , rue is getting there

  • rue is black get over it. please re-read the book before you open your mouth. so called "fans" rue is perfect and adorable and thresh is awesome. please leave the hate at home. please and thank you

  • this gonna be weirddddd i pictured them both with red hair AHHH

  • :< why she so cute forrrrrrrrrrr. FFFFFFFFFFF. Im gonna cry so frickin much. TT_TT

  • Rue is black in the book you dummies! #readthedamnbooks

  • I hate how Rue looks, but Thresh looks pretty suited to the role.

  • @DrownedBeliefs Rue is supposed to be black. Of course the black one seams more suited

  • @SlyGlacier

It said dark skinned, not black and especially not African-American. Besides, I don't think she looks like a 'Rue-type' character, anyway. I expected someone smaller, meeker, y'know?

Don't forget, though, that films aren't copies of the book. Things have to be omitted and certain details changed to 'fit' with what 'works'. It isn't necessarily the case that that would seem more suited anyway.

  • @DrownedBeliefs We'll the author clearly stated in an interview that rue and Thresh we're African American

  • @SlyGlacier

Well, of course they are... you can see that right here! The point is that it doesn't say as such in the book, therefore she was not obligated to make them African American. That was a choice made specifically for the film. In my opinion, that doesn't work for Rue.

  • @DrownedBeliefs I dnt get what you are saying. Suzzane Collins, the author of the Hunger Games, clearly stated that she made Rue black when writing the book. How you invisioned her otherwise is up to you, but they didnt change her race for this movie. Peoples mind are conditioned now to assume everyone is white in a book unless clearly told otherwise. Thresh was different, why? Because he was the dumbass violent tribute, so of course everyone was conditioned to see him as black

  • @SlyGlacier

Feel free to provide a link for that at any point... I don't think I've ever heard anything about her stating that WHILE writing the book. The book merely says 'dark skinned', as I've said, not African American as these actors are. No, people aren't 'conditioned' to believe that, they make a logical assumption based on a number of factors, including their own race and what the general race statistics of their own country are. Get off your politically correct high-horse.

  • @DrownedBeliefs Clear as day. And it is true. They dont base it off there own race. Im latino and I picture everyone to be white. Thats just how it is. If the lead role is not racialy sensitive, it will always go to a white person. Will Smith and Denzel are the only exceptions. There are dozens of Rom Coms every year. All played by two white leads unless its about the race. How often do you see a black person in a Rom Com like Hitch or action like I am legend. Never!

  • @SlyGlacier

Fair enough, I take your point about what she intended, I myself just didn't envision her that way; nothing wrong with developing your own idea of a character, right?

I think that's because these films are produced by white directors in white countries. We could easily look at any Bollywood film and wonder why there are no white actors, but I think that answer, too, would be axiomatic. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Minorities are minorities by definition, y'know.

  • @DrownedBeliefs Yea But these films are mostly produced by americans and america is the appidamy of multi culture. Not just white. I just want to see a movie for once where a black or asian can star in a lead role as not a Black person or an asian person but just a person. A role where you can replace the race of the lead and it will not change the story at all. Thats about 90% of films. (Where the leads race does not matter) And by default, those roles go to white people....or Will Smith.

  • @SlyGlacier

But isn't it wrong to allocate someone a role not based on ability or suitability, but (assuming it is a role where you can replace the race of the lead) based on RACE? That's positive discrimination, which is an inherently racist concept. Shoving a black actor into a role for political correctness reasons over a white person, even if the white person is far more talented at the role, has to be wrong. Of COURSE minorities shouldn't get EQUAL representation; there aren't as many!

  • @DrownedBeliefs I never said they should get a role because they're a minority. But its obvious that they already are allocating people to a role based on race. I refuse to believe that every signal lead is played by a white person because in every case they are clearly the best acting choice. I am against affirmative action. I dont believe a black person should get a role because of their race. Matter of fact thats what i'm against. Give them a role because they earned it

  • @SlyGlacier

Well, I could easily say that I refuse to accept that the decision to include minorities at all; I mean, how often have you seen an advert with an equal ratio of men to women, where someone is asian, someone is african american, someone is latino or something and of course, the generic white person? Me personally? All the time. Look at pretty much any advert, this is always the case. Do you think THEY are allocated based on ability and that it isn't an active choice?

  • @DrownedBeliefs Thats different. A commercial is a commercial. And Its ok to have a black guy in a movie as long as hes not the lead role. Its funny to have a black or Asian best friend. Its cool and it gives of the illusion of equality. It dosen't matter as long as they arn't the main character. Ads appeal to everyone ofevery race. So different races come into play. In movies, white lead is the safe choice to bring in all audiences. Black and its a "Black movie". Asian, must be kung fu

  • I don't see why a black person shouldn't get a lead role. We're all people here aren't we?

  • @SlyGlacier If you have read the book, it is pretty obvious that the tributes (Thresh and Rue) from District 11 are black.

In fact, when Katniss visits District 11 during her Victor Tour in the second book, she sees most people in District 11 are black. District 11 is a black district; it is also either the poorest or second poorest district after District 12.

Unless, are you suggesting changing the race of Thresh and Rue from black (in the book) to white (in the movie)? Why?

  • @ktchong Don't you think it's pretty ironic that District 11 is agriculture and most of the people there are black?

  • @ktchong I think you responded to the wrong person

  • @DrownedBeliefs it says that they both have the same dark olive skin. so get over it.

  • Is race all you people think about?

  • @mitchellgr Is race all you people see? Stop judging a person based on their skin color and maybe us people can stop thinking about it.

  • @SlyGlacier I Agree

  • @DrownedBeliefs it doesn't say katniss is whtie either......AND it says dark skin and curly hair...dark eye....probably means black...or something of that sorts...

  • @DrownedBeliefs If you have read the book, it is pretty obvious that the tributes (Thresh and Rue) from District 11 are black.

In fact, when Katniss visits District 11 during her Victor Tour in the second book, she sees most people in District 11 are black. District 11 is a black district; it is also either the poorest or second poorest district after District 12.

Most importantly, Suzanne Collins.was involved in the casting process. She wrote the first script for the movie as well.

  • @linkaren123 your probably one of few who thought that i think you rushed over certain details. Thresh and Rue ar both from district 11 where the people of certain district look a certain way like how they describe the people from the seam. So if you say thresh looks perfect (a black guy) why would Rue be white when she is described as having dark skin whith dark brown eyes. I see Rue perfectly in that little girl. The author also says they are from african decent. So reread her description.

  • Gosh people need to pay attention to the book, Rue is dark skinned just like it said on the book! Anyways, Rue is adorable and is perfect! :D Can't wait :)

  • I CANT WAIT FOR THIS TO COME OUT . jkj .. it will probably ruin the books...

  • @BJkoolness -_-

  • She's so perfect I want to cry! Just like I imagined her. I already want to cry.

  • Rue vvill the Rue I pictured has like a tanned skin.A minume type. And like black hair. But shes perfect also.I am gonna cry so much.

  • @ThatPotterTribute7 me too!!! but i imagiane Haymitch with a austrailian accent

  • @lu1scantu I iamgiane Haymitch voice like IDK.I vvant to say Mr.Malfoy's voice cause he looks so much like him or Mr.Fuge.

  • @ThatPotterTribute7 IDK, i just see him as Jason Statham

  • @lu1scantu VVhos he?

  • @ThatPotterTribute7 Blitz? The Expendables? The Michanic? ring any bells?

  • @lu1scantu Nope.
