the 2.5 milion budget number you got , was for the whole competition , and also included the cost of all the rental equipment needed at Eliston park(fences, zoom booms , etc) as well as the "company's" charges for setting up and putting on the shows . So yes , when its all done and paid for , it leaves $100 000 per competitor They also do this to keep each show on a level playing field - they all get the same budget . to compare - Montreal $500 000 per show
As well , just FYI , globalfest is not an international competition , so to speak , The shows are designed by the company/country , but they are all set up and fired by a calgary based company . Most countries don't even send a representative to globalfest , unlike the big international competitions like montreal or vancover , where they send a full team to set up and shoot the show . globalfest just isn't worth thier time
8oom8oom , you are very correct in your facts . This is the first year since 2005 I didn't bother to attend one single show . The quality and budgets for the shows have been cut every year , and after last years disapointment , I thought , why bother , I can just watch the vids on youtube afterwards . I'm kinda glad I didn't go this year , as nothing struck me as "spectacular" in any of the shows I watched .
Canada won the People's Choice award for 2009, but Spain won the competition.
And the budget is not $2.5 million. That made me laugh. Out loud. For a long time. Where you pulled that number from I'm not sure, but it's less than $100,000 CAD per display.
And I'm not sure they shot for 1/2 hour. I thought it was less than 25 minutes.

You've got some facts incorrect.
