I remember these monstervision Godzilla marathons. I'd force myself to stay up into the we hours of the morning to watch and tape em all. Very fond memories from my childhood are wrapped up in these classic Kaiju flicks.
I come from Germany and i was a kid every Saturday came a Godzilla Movie, today is not so good. There are good Movies out there but the most are crap.
Less Blue screen more Haert and soul in Movies like the old days.
Ahh the good ol' days when you could watch and old giant monster fick on tv, Foxkids and KidsWB were fighting over who had the better cartoons on Sat morning and Syndicated action-adventure was the rule.
I miss those days, I haven't caught a decent Godzilla flick on tv in years.
Is such a program still broadcast in the United States? The attach oneself to of Godzilla by the child in the United States than [datoshitara] and the child in Japan today.
Does anyone remember which movies they played for the Saturday marathon? The only previews I saw was War of the Gargantuas and Frankenstein Conquers the World for that particular day.
I remember a long time ago, ages it seems. As the new year came around the corner my family and I would sit down on Sunday and watch Godzilla all day on TNT. My brother and I would act out the monster fights and cheer every time Godzilla came on screen, Mom would make popcorn, and Dad would make fun of the plot. Good times...good times. We were so sad when TNT stopped doing monstervision, bring it back!
Someday when I become President, all TV networks & channels will look like this. I will make Joe Bob Briggs the head of the FCC. CGI effects will be banned. Movie re-makes will only be allowed by a 9/10 majority vote of all the citizens. Halloween will become the National Holiday. Godzilla's image will be added to the monument on Mount Rushmore. Horror movie actors will replace Presidents on our currency. Vote for me!
@wrght9185 Can we vote now? How 'bout now? Can we vote yet? Huh? Huh? How about now? I say we vote now! And I say, because you know how very, very important my vote is, that wrght9185 is the one and only candidate that could, would make the ultimate difference in the world today.... wait... what are we voting on again?
So ... alot of others still have all the VCR tapes we recorded in the early 90's lol. I'm only 21 man, but tv has changed so much. Wish they still put this on for kids and adults to enjoy together. Was so much fun.
@Fragile0Still You can enjoy them ALL now, on your 50-inch plasma, DVD and blue ray, in widescreen, and choice of language! We have it all now, in century 21!
There is an internet radio show called Death By DVD that is broadcasted live every friday night at 11 PM eastern on a website called Blog Talk Radio. This week they are doing an homage/tribute to Joe Bob Briggs. Check it out!
Holy crap! I watched this marathon back in 93! Even got up early enough to watch the classic Hannah Barbara Godzilla cartoons that were aired before the movies! F'n awesome upload!
I remember seeing this as a kid. My grandma had recorded one of the movies with a VCR (Godzilla's Revenge) and I grew up watching it with these promos and commercial breaks. So nostalgic. I love Godzilla.
I have every single Godzilla and most TOHO sci fi on DVD, that I either recorded onvhs back in the day, or bought ohn VHS, or DVD. Lately all the classics and more have been put on DVD! Many happy weekends watching GODZILLA and TOHO and other Japense science fiction, which I just love, and inspired directors like George Lucas, Steve Spielberg, and James Cameron.
TNT Drama channel? Heh, now it's more like a channel that appeals to old codgers in the nursing home. I'm sick of shows aimed at codgers. I like monsters so much better.
Nothing like suitmation and miniatures filmed with lots of light and high-speed cameras. I Love these Japanese Tokusatsu and kaiju-eiga movies all my life.
Man, I remember watching this!!! What a great channel back then. What the hell happened to television programming? I remember after Monstervision was cancelled that was the lsst I have watched T.N.T..
Theres always a new generation of kids. And these classic movies should be on tv. Little kids will always watch these, better than most of the crap on tv anyway.
ya know the song godzilla by blue oyster cult tnt's monstervision was the first time i had ever heard that song back in 1995 and i didn't find out that blue oyster cult was the band who sang the song until i found it on youtube in 2007 drove me nuts all these years wanting to know who made that great song ridiculous huh?.
i remember those days. those were the good old days when i was little. but i own all the movies, and there on dvd except for three. but i still have the vhs versions of some of them.
so -the first night they didn't show any godzilla movies? what did they mean by giant mutants? war of the gargantuas and frankenstein conquers the world?
Man, this was when cable TV was fun. TNT(and TBS and WGN were all "retro" in the mid-90's. That ended about, 1999 or so when Time Warner/Aol bought/merged with Turner Networks-thanks to some de-regulations in the commincations industry. Convinced "retro" was out, old movies/shows vanished and were replaced with endless marathons of ER, and repeats of recent theaterical films sent straight to TV via the newly acquired outlets.
@zillabob "Man, this was when cable TV was fun. TNT(and TBS and WGN were all "retro" in the mid-90's"
So true. I got cable tv for the very first time in 1996, and I was surprised and delighted to find all the classic movies and tv shows that I grew up watching on tv as a kid in the 1970s.
