Don't care what anyone says about the Oak Ridge Boys: I got the opportunity to take my Mom to see them on Mother's Day a few years ago. She enjoyed it!! This song, if people would take the time to listen to the words: it may touch a chord.....
he did NOT decide to go off on his own. they kicked him out . they had an agreement years ago the at a certain age they had to leave the group. He got to that age and they told him he had to go. Then they all became older and didnt want to leave. They asked him to return. And he did.
That's interesting....I read in a story of the Oak Ridge Boys (official) that the reason they kicked WMG out was because of his devotion to the "mountain man" lifestyle -- including the animal skin clothing, which tended to smell on the tour bus. The rest of the group didn't feel that this new image of WMG's went along with the rest of the group, so they voted for him to leave. I don't recall the circumstances of his rejoining the group, though.
Which goes along with what I said about WMG's turning to the "mountain man" life.....it didn't fit with the image the other members were going for. I'm sure there were other circumstances, too. It's just too bad that Steve Sanders (WMG's replacement) committed suicide -- I don't think there was any reason for that.
@knightryderrwn ----i heard the same-----guessed they wised up and wanted him back---but also heard their was going to be a law suit by the mountain man
William Lee Golden was not part of the group at this time, he had decided to go out on his own , but he did return and I am glad he did, they weren't the same.
I saw the OAKS in Michigan in 1978. They were on a small stage off the beaten path at the state fair. The audience included me and one other person. Everyone else just walked on by. Boy, did they miss a great 30 minute show. Something I will never forget.
i guess when it hurts to hurts to sometimes i guess we learn from out mistakes.. but sometimes it is hard for us to get over it when we are slowly healin..
To stopthe911bull, that 70's song "You left me just wehn i needed you most: was "Randy Vanwarmer" who sang that..This song here from the O.R Boyz sure packs a punch about life going by in a heartbeat, and i love the words!
Joe was telling the story at a concert at the South Plains Failr in Lubbock, TX. It was pretty funny and went something like this. If you are wondering what happened to Steve's foot, we were playing football when Steve broke left and his leg broke right, and that's the whole story in a nutshell.
This song was written by the man who sang " Just When I needed You Most" in the '70's. He wrote this about his feelings after the death of his father.
Great Performance by the Oak Ridge Boys. I also must say I used to watch TNN all the time just to look at Lorrianne Crook's legs. She has some good ones.
the guy sitting on the chair, did he not take over for william lee for a spell? I also, thought, i had heard the guy sitting on the chair had committed suicide. is that true?
Yes he did take over for William when he was fired from the Group in 1987, because they believed that his long hair and beard no longer fit the image of the Oak Ridge Boys,,Steve Sanders, rhythm guitarist for the band stepped up to replace him. Steve Sanders left the group in 1995; he committed suicide on June 10, 1998
This has been my song since 1983. J.R. I miss you. If you are out there e-mail me. J.R. from LRAFB 1980-1983. The rest of this message is for you cowboy.
hey jeff it is me mike and i agree with you on the fact in my opion that the oaks have treated some of thier most loyal fans like dirt just because of political beliefs!!! how silly is that in my opion... the fans deserve better from thier artists on how they are treated... in my opion!!! hey duanne my brother still wants his apolagy and by the way that was really uncool that you made jeff's 12 year old daughter cry that is pretty bad in my opion...
this is a good song from a great band, but i missed william lee golden. no offense to steve and his family, but it wasn't the same for me until william lee rejoined.

@knightryderrwn I done some research on this: William Lee Golden was fired in 1986 when the other members wished to change the country band's image.
