holy crap! one of the fastest versions ever! each time , she plays it different, and with different speeds, i will never understand how does she make this piece amazing even with a devil's speed! it's like ravel wrote this for her!
This interpretation is undoubtedly amazing considering lisitsa's perfect techinque. However I have to say that her way of playing lacks in "frightening factor". It is supposed to be more mystrerious, dark and TERRIFYING!!! Really great!! Have a look at Argerich's and Michelangeli's interpretion to enjoy a just different way of playing. (not necessarily better than this one;-) )
@RavelDebussy OMG i was supposed to write it at lisitsas performance!! :D BTW whatever I say about argerich is truly correct according to my opinion!!! GO MARTA!!! When you play that way live we should all shut up and listen to god :D
After I heard Miss Argerich do this, I began to suspect Ravel stole much of this from Mussorgsky, he just had to mess up the harmonies a little bit...
This is the greatest performance I've ever heard of SCARBO, and yes, I've heard Michelangeli's! Argerich captures the mood of the piece to perfection and takes all risks; you have to love her. Oh, she is also technically flawless.
The coughing accompaniments at the beginning are undoubtedly most brilliant. A rather adequate interpretation of Ravel's intentions as to be found in the score, as well ...
Later on, admittedly, those same contributions still are quite impressive.
gaspard is one of the most challenging and virtuosic compositions ever written. i marvel at its technical intricacies and detail paid to its programmatic composition. i love those dangerous double notes here. her "volume shafting" is legendary. haha.
WOW, how she dares to do this live...she always likes to try different things and this time I think she was smart, this speed really works on Scarbo, it turns the piece in something frightening.
This is ridiculous! How the hell does anyone play that fast?? It's just scary and crazy! I think the audience, at the end was like "What the hell was that we just heard"? They just didn't know what to make of it. That's how good this is.
I think Martha is capable of going way fast on pretty much anything. So she might start out really fast just because she forgets that it could possibly be better slower? Though this piece is amazing this fast!
Wow, fast and furious. Amazing playing, picks up the mischievous quality of the piece but i feel like she rushes past a few beautiful phrases, just me? very good though, 4/5!
Oh yay. I have this album too, and this recording of her Scarbo is far superior to the one with the waterfalls and tsunamis interrupting the playing. Love this. I can't imagine what it must have been like for those sitting in the audience at this recital. I would have been stunned.
O___O hair-raising. scaring. never heard such a thing. never. i'm shocked....i'm serious. i've always loved this woman but this time i'm literally shocked.... how can a human being play that way? please explain me, it's unbelievable...
Ravel meets the Ramones: Fast, frantic, furious . . . and perfect beyond words.

This is how Scarbo would play Scarbo! :P
Poor Ravel would have had a fit, but my god does her interpretation work!

superior in wt way exactly. here she rushes past everything. she doesn't even build up to the climax at around 6:57.
i much prefer the studio performance, she gets kinda anxious during live performances and goes way above the speed limit.
