Great Review, one point though - there is no need to track the attack factor prior to the roll, since triggers on the die roll (e.g. the sniper one) do not effect the attack factor - the attack factor + the roll will get "locked in" before you tend to the trigger itself.
This is very timely for us. When we inquire about wargaming it's either Advance Squad Leader, or Combat Commander over and over...but we did not know exactly what type of wargame CC was. I did not know it was card-driven for example. I just assumed it was hex & counter all the way with dice modifiers etc. I suppose there are cards in nearly all the wargames now, not that cards are a bad thing. Anyway, THANK YOU for posting this 'overview' of this popular series of games, I, for one, needed this.
Sounds like a great game. Lots of detail in there to dig into. I don't mind randomness at all, as combat is pure chaos anyway, I wonder if the problem with needing a "move" card could be alleviated with a house rule of some kind, Love the drop!
haha, what an ending. definitely missing something!
This looks like a fun game, although I am unfamiliar with wargames. They have become more and more interesting as time has gone on, maybe I'll have to try it out.
I was really looking forward to this, my partner and I are thinking about dabbling in a bit of wargaming as a departure from our usual. This, hammer of the scots, julius ceaser, the new band of band of brothers title and conflict of heroes are all options we are checking out so its always great to see your take on things.

Happy gaming.

excellent review, probably one of your best, because you focused on your memorable experiences rather than the rules.
