I've always thought of her as the logical successor to Marilyn Horne...her voice isn't as dark as Horne's, but she has that same wonderful flexibility and agility...and what a beautiful vocal tone!
Truly a gift to singing, this woman is. I did NOT know she spoke French so flawlessly? Does anyone happen to know if she is a native speaker or was raised in a bilingual household? I read that she was born and lived in Alaska.
She speaks perfect English, Italian with the accent of Bologna and Treviso, Spanish with the accent of Chile (nevertheless she is half mexican), perfect French, fluent German, she is a great artist and I was talking to her in spanish and guess what, she was just incredible too. But the best thing, she is so humble.

I continually am astonished that so many listeners are so uninformed about Baroque vocal style, especially for castrato arias, that they overlook the inappropriateness of employing unfocused voices.

Certalinly. If you already have listened to this particular video, you have heard and example of unfocused voice. Despite your uncivil verbage, I will attempt to help you to understand. A full explanation can be found in the article "The High Male Voice: An Introduction" on the website MaleSopranos. I hope that this precise explanation can assist you to understand better. The other articles there are useful, too. Best wishes.
Well, I am (unfortunately) not personally befriended with Vivica Genaux and not her biographer, but I hope that the following data can help:
Her father is of Belgian descent (mother tongue French). Her mother is Mexican-born and of Swiss-German descent and worked as a famous language teacher!
So she was exposed to English, French, Spanisch and German from early childhood on!
BRAVOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Why does she have an overactive jaw I thought that was a sign of poor vocal technique b/c her voice sounds tense all the time :/

@sfkcbf Anywhere you wanna give an example of an "unfocused" voice? I would prefer some pedagogical specifics and not mere opininig.
