For a naturally fair person to strive for a tan (which is common in Scandinavia at least) is very unhealthy since you really damage the skin that way.

Me I can barely go out in the middle of the summer since I don't tan at all, I just go crayfish-red and flake :S

Just for the record, before some moron says it, there is NO comparison between tanning and bleaching cream. Getting darker under the sun is natural whereas bleaching is usaully toxic and if not is still unhealthy. You're skin isn't supposed to be stripped of it's pigment. It's like going backwards.
