The reason why there is a "Southern Strategy" by the GOP is because the South makes up nearly 1/3 of the electorate. That means if the GOP can sweep the South on election day, just like the Dems did for 160 years or so (excluding most of Reconstruction), it dramatically increases their chances to win the presidency, not to mention important House & Senate seats.

But when in doubt, yell racism b/c a bunch of knuckleheads will agree with you without having to do any independent critical thinking.

I think the best part about the midterm elections was hearing the Democrats squeal in the aftermath. If the south is so terrible then why are Liberals so concerned about preserving the Union? The answer is because they need our tax dollars to pay for their subsidies. I think we should split our country up into three different nations The Southern Confederation, New England, and The West Coast. If we seceded we would be much better off and you dependent crybabies would beg for us to come back.

We wouldn't know because modern American conservatism has hitched its wagon so firmly to racist policies, a black conservative is deemed suspect by the vast majority of African-Americans from the start. Plus, when the Bush administration destroyed the economy through huge deficit spending, there was no mass protest on the scale of the teabaggers to protest it. Also, look geographically where these protests were and where what's left of the Republican party is strongest. Doesn't take a genius.

The whole point of democracy is that all individuals have a say, not just individuals with specific credentials. If someone says something that makes sense, believe it until you have reason not to. Likewise, if someone says something that is unsubstantiated, disbelieve it until you have reason to otherwise. Given the Bush administration's handling of Hurricane Katrina, I think it's obvious what southern politics are. But hey, I'm Canadian, what do I know?

@Suarez23 I understand what a republic is, power is maintained by the people over government. A democracy is a form of a republic, and the united states most certainly is a form of democracy. Is it the best one? I don't know. But by definition I fail to see how to separate the two. In reality people don't realize that a Republic is like the null state of government. As for FEMA, perhaps you are bureaucratically correct, let's say you are. This would indicate a failure of your system.
