What about Echo brand weedeater mix oil? It seems to go with even the shittiest gas and cornoline sold in TX, and doesn't smoke much. I had weedeaters last for years of hard use sometimes for 10hrs a day in the summer heat.
Ethanol cuts the oil film on the cylinder walls. Try putting a little 2 stroke oil in your gas mix, and see if it quits burning oil from the crank case.
harldy ever, they will last for many years as long as you dont abuse it. heat will kill it. the heat comes from the slippage between the metal shoes and the drum. it only slipps when the drum is spining slower than 2200 rpm.(its stall spead)

i haven't found any 2 stroke oil that will mix with the ethanol.
