A friend of mine got to eat lunch with him. He was teaching theater at some school in NYC, and Tim, my friend and a friend of his sat together and ate lunch How cool is that?
Another friend of mine saw him in a restroom somewhere in L.A. I think. My (male) friend was wearing some crazy Goth boots and Tim Curry said to him "Nice boots!" then Tim got a tad flustered because usually the full line is "Nice boots, lets BLEEP!" and he was all like "NO, I just mean nice boots!"
@wadsworth I'm sorry but i'm not going to be soft on you just cause your young like the other users. Who cares what the characters in Rocky Horror wear? You really don't have to watch the movie if you don't want to. But maybe one day when your older and a bit more sensible you will watch it and you'll realise the film has nothing to do with being a transexual. It's about livng life to the absolute full and not changing urself for anyone.
Got to agree with tomluvspatti. Plus when you finally see it you're going to think it's old-fashioned because it
influenced everything you know about style. And it was just drawing on what went before. You see, you may have been born yesterday, but the world wasn't. In fact, the 1920s through the '40's make the last 35 years feel like an evening at the country club with your folks.
@Wadsworth64 You shouldn't feel stupid over it. Just whenever you're ready to see RHPS you might be in for a pleasant surprise. Or not. It all hinges on your taste in movies...
@Wadsworth64 If you haven't seen it then calling it a "not-good movie" seems silly. I thought the RHPS plot was a stupid concept when I first heard about it as a kid, but once I saw it and realized it was an intentionally campy spoof of old horror films with terrific musical numbers, I felt like an idiot for doubting others' views. You shouldn't go now and see it if you don't want to, but if you ever do later on (hopefully at a packed theater for the full experience), you may change your mind.
@Wadsworth64 It's one of the most incredible movies ever. I was 12 the first time I saw it, and I'm 18 now and still consider it my absolute favorite movie in the world. You can't judge it if you haven't seen it, so why not give it a chance?
@Wadsworth64 Yes he dresses like a woman in the film, yes there are references to sex & aliens. But, its a film that has been labeled as a cult classic & a part of movie history. No other film has been in the theaters every year for the last 35 years. So regardless of if its your type of movie or not, I was simply stating that its not like the crap films today & it wouldn't hurt you to open your mind and educate yourself on a cult classic such as this.
@Wadsworth64 All I'm saying to you is its an amazing movie... You're only 13, but I'm sure you've seen worse movies unless you've not seen a movie in the last 10 years. I believe I was 15 when I first saw it... This was a film from 1975 so Rated R back then is more like PG-13 today. The things they found shocking then are nothing to what shocks us now.
@Wadsworth64 Oh my goodness!!! you've never seen RHPS? I have loved Tim curry for 10 years and it all began with that movie... If you are in any way obessed with him, it will only get worse if you watch Rocky Horror, because even if its not your type of movie, its a cult classic and a piece of history... I strongly recommend you watch it eventually... Tim Curry has never been better and your obsession will only grow...HA.
Thank you. This was great. It always a treat to hear Tim Curry sing...or act, comedic and dramatic...or do voice-overs...or read audiobooks. He's an all-around wonderful talent with a lovely heart.
Follies is by far my favorite musical... Sondheim was just dead on with this one... Incredible... if you ever get a chance to see this show, absolutely do it! I saw it a few years back at Boston Conservatory and I was blown away...
simply amazing! he's got the one of the most underappreciated voices i know of. i so love that you have shared this. he's never left me from my top people list - in my mind - who are amazingly talented. i certainly wish we could see more of tim musically. i still have my vinyl album 'simplicity' from the early '80's. it is a great album from start to finish.
TimCurryFan 1993: I know you were only 4 when he sang this, but have you learned how to spell since then? I understand computer-speak was envented to save characters, but replacing "y" with "i" in "only" is just rediculous.
I agree with you, but if you're going to bag out other people's spelling you should at least check yours before posting. It's "invented" and "ridiculous"
did actually see him doing a play years ago and just melted......love him to death he's a total package!!! Voice and not hard on the eyes! Seems the older he gets the sexier he is!
Omg...there is nothing he can't do, is there? I love him so much! <33 My friends think I'm crazy but...he's so amazing. He is on the top of my 'People I Want to Meet List'. <33
A friend of mine did meet him! She went to see a play in the City and was the last one in line for him to autograph her program. She said, "Look, I know you probably hear this endlessly, but you filled my adolescence with such joy". He was VERY NICE and seemed to have got over his resentment of Rocky Horror. They talked for about 10 minutes!
He's one of the few actors/singers that are talented and has played some very memorable roles. I love everything's he's done and I'd love to meet him before it's too late. Those crooked bottom teeth, that accent and how he pronounces some words with rolling annunciation, I shiver! Between Him and Johnny Depp. I see them both as truly talented and very handsome fellows. And for 64, he still looks damn good.
@xJokerxOfxHeartsx I met Tim a years ago in New Orleans when he was on a concert tour. I made a total fool of myself. He has a tendency to have that effect on people. :b He's gorgeous in person.
@rhiready Yes, I made a fool of myself! I ran up to his tour bus just as he was coming down the steps. We came "nose to nose"; I think I kind of startled him :b The only words to come out of my mouth were: "Oh! Mr. Curry!!" I was completely swept off my feet. I presented him with a single, long stemmed red rose and he posed for a pic with the rose between his teeth. I was so nervous I forgot how to use my point and shoot camera. He came onstage with MY rose in his teeth! He is "to die for" live
I'll it say it once and I'll say it 100 times more - He is an amazing and oh so talented singer and actor. He has so much control over his voice that when you hear it, your heart can't help but melt! When he adds a touch of vibrato to his music.. Beautiful. <3
He is a wonderful Singer and Actor and i respect his talent but I've been frightened of him since i was a child! i just recently figured out it was becasue he played Rooster in Annie and He scarred me! lol
I know ... every time I watch that movie I have to remind myself that it really is Tim Curry. He almost always plays the bad guy in movies. But, I love him! He is an incredible actor.
My God, this is so beautiful. It actually brought me to tears. Such a moving song, and his voice is so haunting. Tim Curry is such a lovely man, I think I would die if I could ever be in his presence. <3
Thank you soo much for posting this wonderful song. I love Tim´s voice! Incredible! Unfortunately I´ve got only his "best of" Album...One of my favourite songs is "Simplicity"..Best wishes from Germany, Alexa
This song is definantly one of my favorites of his. I love his voice, it goes so well with the whole attitude of the song, and I love when the band starts playing loudly it really adds strong emotion.
Tim Curry is amazing!! However, check out the 'Holly Cole Trio' version (I posted it as a video here) VERY different but sensual interpretation. I prefer Holly's over the broadway or 'disco' version (yeah, there's a disco version).
This is a one off thing Tim did, so it isn't part of his discography. In the video info you can see this is taken from a homage to Stephen Sondheim, born in 1930, who wrote this song. Many artists sang Sondheim's music in the same event. Sondheim's most famous scores include: Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and Assassins, AS WELL AS THE LYRICS FOR: West Side Story and Gypsy. (More info on the comments posted by other users)
Being perfectly honest, I didn't even know who Tim Curry was 'til I saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Then I recognized all of the cartoon voices he did. Now I'm listening to him sing songs from Annie and his music video Paradise Garage... and this. Absolutely beautiful. I love it. His voice is so unique and incredible. <333
I think most people go...'hey, of course! he was this voice from (), or... oh my! he was Forte in Beauty and the Beast!, etc'. Plenty of us have his voice lodged deep inside the brain. I hate Barbies and only recently I discovered my wee little sister had a Barbie video and Tim Curry did the voice of the Mouse King in the Nutcracker. No need to say I HAD TO watch that bloody video :)
You should get his 3 albums then, plus all the film soundtracks he's been in. Beside the fact he's got many good songs, it is his voice what it really makes all his music work special.
LOL, I've always thought of him as an actor who could sing... not the other way around. Though I was scared to death of him as a kid because of how nasty Rooster gets at the end of Annie!
He said in some interviews that in his early career he couldn't make up his mind. He spent the first 3 years doing films and then took a break and spent over 2 years touring mainly the United States and some parts of Europe to promote his albums/music. Later he thought he was too 'mature and literate' to start a rock career (he was over 30), plus his music was not aimed to a wide audience, so continued with stage work and more films. Later it came musical theatre and voice overs for cartoons.
Now I was just checking... it is very clear he didn't know what to decide, look: 1975 his first film is released, then some more film work and then he goes onto releasing 3 albums with dates very close to each other: 1978 (Read My Lips), 1979 (Fearless) and 1981 (Simplicity). I'm glad he is not a one-dimensional artist, so he has done lots of everything, acting on screen and stage, dancing, singing, voice overs, audio books..
Yeah. I've always heard of Tim Curry through the voices he's done in cartoons (mostly as villains), but it's been only recently that I discovered what he did before (including Rocky Horror Picture Show)--and I'm 23. God, I can be so thick!
Hey, I'm almost 29, and In only knew he did other stuff cause my dad got me hooked on musicals, so I saw Annie and RHPS when I was young. Still didn't know he was this good!
So all artists where scheduled for both dates to sing the same programme of songs? That's really interesting, the unofficial recording with slightly different versions.
I believe that this is the official recording released on CD which was recorded 3/8/96. The actual dates of the performances were March 8-9,1996 but the CD wasn't released until 1997. There is an unofficial recording that is different than this one which obviously was recorded on the 9th.
Yes, WickedWitchElphaba. This performance is quite amazing. Be gone before someone drops a house on you, too.

My God, this is so beautiful. It actually brought me to tears. Such a moving song, and his voice is so haunting. Tim Curry is such a lovely man, I think I would die if I could ever be in his presence. <3

This is absolutely fabulous. Have a look at Jon van Eerd's version, which is wonderful too.

Sorry, Tim. This song needs none of your melodramatic emphasis. Please listen to Barbara Cook'd rendition for the definitive interpretation.

He is living proof that its not the voice that makes the song great, its the feeling behind it.

Thank you soo much for posting this wonderful song. I love Tim´s voice! Incredible! Unfortunately I´ve got only his "best of" Album...One of my favourite songs is "Simplicity"..Best wishes from Germany, Alexa

I think about you, Tim!!!
lol
This song is definantly one of my favorites of his. I love his voice, it goes so well with the whole attitude of the song, and I love when the band starts playing loudly it really adds strong emotion.

Tim Curry is amazing!! However, check out the 'Holly Cole Trio' version (I posted it as a video here) VERY different but sensual interpretation. I prefer Holly's over the broadway or 'disco' version (yeah, there's a disco version).

I love this song. But the more classical version-with the orchestral accompaniment, in a female voice. Please can you tell me where I can find it?

this song is amazing..from all the albums i heard: "read my lips", and "greatests hits" this is one of Tim's best performance...
did he realesed it as a single? did he wrote this song?
queen106 3 years ago
This is a one off thing Tim did, so it isn't part of his discography. In the video info you can see this is taken from a homage to Stephen Sondheim, born in 1930, who wrote this song. Many artists sang Sondheim's music in the same event. Sondheim's most famous scores include: Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and Assassins, AS WELL AS THE LYRICS FOR: West Side Story and Gypsy. (More info on the comments posted by other users)

WOW! great, thanx for the info.
i'm a big Tim's fan, and this performance is one his best. great posting, huge treat for anyone that loves to hear Tim sings such strong notes...

No need to say I HAD TO watch that bloody video :)
eleanorpowell2007 3 years ago
Lol really??! I am so gonna look that up now. xD "Barbie Nutcracker" or something lol.

haha, well, I must say it was not that bad, I actually enjoyed it a bit! *hides in corner*

I've always been a Tim Curry fan, but I never realizes what an incredible singing voice he had. Wow
witchhat 3 years ago
You should get his 3 albums then, plus all the film soundtracks he's been in. Beside the fact he's got many good songs, it is his voice what it really makes all his music work special.
eleanorpowell2007 3 years ago
LOL, I've always thought of him as an actor who could sing... not the other way around. Though I was scared to death of him as a kid because of how nasty Rooster gets at the end of Annie!
witchhat 3 years ago
He said in some interviews that in his early career he couldn't make up his mind. He spent the first 3 years doing films and then took a break and spent over 2 years touring mainly the United States and some parts of Europe to promote his albums/music. Later he thought he was too 'mature and literate' to start a rock career (he was over 30), plus his music was not aimed to a wide audience, so continued with stage work and more films. Later it came musical theatre and voice overs for cartoons.
eleanorpowell2007 3 years ago
Now I was just checking... it is very clear he didn't know what to decide, look: 1975 his first film is released, then some more film work and then he goes onto releasing 3 albums with dates very close to each other: 1978 (Read My Lips), 1979 (Fearless) and 1981 (Simplicity). I'm glad he is not a one-dimensional artist, so he has done lots of everything, acting on screen and stage, dancing, singing, voice overs, audio books..
eleanorpowell2007 3 years ago
Yeah. I've always heard of Tim Curry through the voices he's done in cartoons (mostly as villains), but it's been only recently that I discovered what he did before (including Rocky Horror Picture Show)--and I'm 23. God, I can be so thick!
FirstClassHeel 3 years ago 4
Hey, I'm almost 29, and In only knew he did other stuff cause my dad got me hooked on musicals, so I saw Annie and RHPS when I was young. Still didn't know he was this good!

So all artists where scheduled for both dates to sing the same programme of songs? That's really interesting, the unofficial recording with slightly different versions.
eleanorpowell2007 4 years ago
I believe that this is the official recording released on CD which was recorded 3/8/96. The actual dates of the performances were March 8-9,1996 but the CD wasn't released until 1997. There is an unofficial recording that is different than this one which obviously was recorded on the 9th.
