  • i would love 2 c them on that show unsung

  • Lord! That sista is Thelma from Good Times fine!

  • I would love to hear her and her husband sing a duet. "JT"

  • The first time i heard this song was on the premire of The New American Bandstand in Rate-A-Record in 1987 and i believe it won

  • Where are these days and what happened to music? Thanks you tube and thank you deja. Just good clean fun music when people was really enjoying making the music and people enjoyed listening to the music. This reminds of how music sucks today and I thank God I came from Deja's time.

  • Where are these days and what happened to music? Thanks you tube and thank you deja

  • Had the biggest crush on Star back then.

  • @bigbankX

    Great tune!!!

  • I was totally in love with Star, back in the day and hated JT Taylor for dating her. Her voice and eye,s are so sexy.

  • I was totally in love with Star, back in the day and hated JT Taylor for dating her.

  • @marxell112 Well now, I don't like her, because I love me some JT and she's married to him!

  • @caramelkiss829

You mean I don't like JT because he is married to Star,Dam she fine.I knew it was something I didn't like about JT.

  • "Aurra" !!!

  • @tazmalti no dought but, Legal issues with a former member over the name Aurra made the duo change their name to Déja, and with this name they only cracked the bottom half of the Top 100 R&B hit chart with the Teddy Riley produced hit, "Made To Be Together" in 1989. Starleana Young left the group to go solo, and was replaced by Mysti Day.

  • @FireitupBedford Actually, it was under the name Deja that they released the U.S. version of 'You and Me Tonight' and also 'That's Where You'll Find Me,' both of which reached the top 20 R&B -- with 'You and Me' in the top 10.

  • @FireitupBedford Made to be Together actually peaked at #21 on the R&B Chart in 1989, and is actually a new Jack Swing classic.

  • So let me get this straight. "You and Me Tonight" was originally released in 1985...was getting airplay on R&B stations throughout 1986...and was re-released/remixed (and officially charted on the R&B and Pop Charts) during Fall 1987? LOL. I'm a bit confused on the original chart and release history of this song/single. Not that it's really important, but just wanted to know. I know when I heard the original version of this song that it just didn't have a "1987"-ish sound, if you get me.

  • were can i get this song?? i've been looking for this song for 2 years.. i found it but i want it on my headphones

  • @marksmen2010 i can email u this song if u like!!!!

  • how can someone view the video and not crack an automatic smile?

    THIS is music man!

  • Oh my God Starleana's voice and swagger it makes me horny. Curtis is a very talented musician this jam is classic, the piano solo is off da chain. Masterpiece. And imma 18 y old hip hop head from Tuscaloosa. Thats whats up.

  • Starlena was so beautiful and what a great voice. I miss the 80s!

  • wot do u mean underated?? This song did ok in the dance charts

  • @DC6six Indeed. It peaked at #2 on the R&B Charts, and was VERY close on peaking in the Top 40 on the Pop Charts..and I'm 110% certain it would have if MTV gave this video proper rotation in 1987.

  • Dude, I'm not kidding you!!! Here we go again!!! I've had this song on mind for weeks and I've been meaning to look it up and I find an INTERVIEW and I'm all freakin' excited and ....uh....well, it's to your credit once again.....haha.....thanks so much, I love this song...

  • Another under-rated song

  • I always rated the female more than the male vocal. I wonder if she ever went solo?

  • @neofunkyman1 Yes, I have two of Star's solo songs here on my channel. Just search Starleana Stronger and Better and Heartbreaker here on my channel. -- retrorhythms

  • @neofunkyman1 the male vocals complimented her very well in fact it in my opinion the male vocals made hers sound even better and the songs they were singing were duet type songs

  • @neofunkyman1 Jody watley!

  • @neofunkyman1 Jody Whatley was a trendsetter back in the day, WOW! I thought this lady was Jody for a moment there...New Love by Jody was a hitttttt the year this song came out.

  • @neofunkyman1 Soooo High!!!!!

  • Aww Dammit!!! I remember this song, GOSH I was in 1st grade when this came out, HA HA HA , My parents was jammin with this thing. WHOOOO HOOOO!!!

Thanks Retrorhythms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOO It's been 22 years since I heard this.

  • Star an JT were moving into their mansion in the mid 90's and she needed a close by place to have her baby shower and ended up in my sister's house in Paterson !

  • great tune !

  • THIS WAS A VERY DEFYING YEAR FOR ME..... YOUNG AND COMING INTO MY OWN, ESPECIALLY WITH THE LADIES......I REMEMBERED MOST OF THE SONGS FROM THAT YEAR INCLUDING THIS.....!!!!!

  • really great... G.I.Disco...All the way...

  • This is truly a joy. Yes, thank you for sharing this. I didn't think I'd ever see this video again.

  • I've been looking for this for so longggggg, love this song!!!!!

  • Thanks for the post! I've posted some recent things myself.

  • Thankfully Video Soul and Video Vibrations promoted quite a few groups that didn't get much radio airplay locally. I never knew at the time that these clips and songs would one day be classics. Thanks for posting.

  • thanks for the post. a previous comment was correct to note Starlena's "sassy and sexy" moves in this video. In this video Starlena reminds a little bit of Paul Abdul in her Knocked Out video. What a great era in music.

  • Damn Video Soul!!!!! Damn that brings back memories....

  • one of the best songs made in 1987 along with terence trent darby if you let me stay

  • the best song of 1987 along with terence trent darby if you let me stay

  • brilliant brilliant brilliant.

  • wow, I just heard this cut on the "Soul Town" channel on XM radio last night!

  • Hem mercy, I been looking for the title to this song forever, other cuts as well. Thank u soooo much for posting this! I was only searching Deja but not Aurra.

  • I love her mustache. I really do.

  • I havent heard this in years. Smooth cut!

  • I heard the original UK version a year prior to the newly recorded track here. They performed this on Solid Soul and Top Of The Pops and that mix made the top 20 during the Spring of 1986 as Aurra. The Deja 45 version was hard to find so I decided to buy this at a used record store a few months ago.

  • I REMEMBER THIS SONG! LOVE IT!

  • At the time this song came out I had been in an accident and remain bed ridden and I watched video soul day in and out and I'd go so happy when this song was played because I loved it. I've waited for the actual video to hit youtube and you blessed us not only with it but with an interview as well. This is priceless. Thanks for sharing.

  • You're welcome! I can see how it would be uplifting in a situation like the one you had. The song has an unmistakable feel-good vibe...and the video, too!

  • @retrorhythms Thanks for posting this video! I've been searching for this for years now.

  • I was a DJ at that time and I mixed the night and the night will remain one of the best music

  • Starleana was fine.

  • Yo, she loved JT, that is tooo funny, I saw another interview where she was giddy again, that is too sweet, she is in the Kool and the Gang video for Straight Ahead

  • Yeah, they ended up getting married!

  • question, do you know if they remained married, i am hearing conflicting stories. thanks again for the post

  • I think they still are. Star has recent videoclips of JT on her YouTube page (The1stStarleana).

  • wait, wait, wait, there was a video for this, GTFOOH! Thanks for posting, only performances were up on the tube

  • @1980Triumph I'm right there with you. I never knew there was a video to this. I wish BET would just cancel half the stuff they have now and just play old Video Soul, Midnight Love and Video Vibrations. I wish they had named their new Centric network (BET Classics) and just show retro stuff from their vault.

  • @thejukejoint

    AMEN!!!

  • @thejukejoint I totally agree with you 100%! BET was "BET" then; not the junk they have aired now! This was a time when videos were "videos" and when music was "music". Hopefully the propmoters and program directors of that network can listen to what made the network what it was and air classic programs like that. I was glued to the television with these programs.

  • thanks for posting this video!!! this is very cool!!

  • She can move dude...

  • Yeah, This is what I'm talking about! I've gained much just by checking out all of these channels. I remember this song and duo!! The exotic eyes in the head of Starleana Young used to melt me inside out. I had an intimate crush on her ever since I saw the video "That's Where You'll Find Me". Watching her in that video is like digesting a refreshing drink to quench my thirst. Although she has a inkling resemblance of Lisa Bonet, still, Starleana is so beautiful as no comparison to another. Love

  • just amazing!

  • Theres always talks about this video on the tube for the past four years, but retrorhythms was actully the first one to find and post it up on here. I did'nt even know this was a big hit in the US (I thought only in the UK), and I see that they updated to sound of the song unlike the Solid Soul performance (of which sounds like the song belongs in 1983).

  • Yeah, I was wondering why everybody was commenting on the other clips about the sound being outdated for its time...but then I remembered that THIS mix was not the one that was popular in Europe. On the contrary, the version here was kinda ahead of its time in terms of R&B radio - in terms of having more of a "club" sound to it!

  • Yeah, the other version was funkier, but it sounded like it was recorded in 1983....even fro European standards. I did'nt know they was a club version (popular in the US). Starlina looks gorgeous in this video (sassy, yet sexy)!

  • OMGoodness - retrorythms!

I dun dead and went to HEAVEN! - Thanks!

    Starlena!!!!!!

  • Retro you are hittin it baby!!!! I saw your posted Anne G video and I just decided to browse your library and I found yet another video I've been searching for for 20 years. Brings back some great high school memories. This was right before the Teddy Riley New Jack Swing sound took over the air waves. In fact, I believe Teddy Riley produced Deja's next album after this one.

  • I remember this. The Ceiling in the Ballroom looked familiar. That's the Embassy Ballroom of the famed Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles that was recently razed. Bobby Kennedy gave his last speech before being shot in the kitchen pantry area behind the stage.

  • Thanks for video, much appreciated. Love this tune!

  • loved this...I remember this as a kid...:)

  • thank you,thank you,thank you

  • Donnie Simpson, with his tight eyes!!!!!....lol, ha-ha, I can't breathe (holding my stomach)!!!!

  • very very thank retro good moment for me

    hippppiiiiiiiiihouraaaa "joy frenchy"

  • Question: Back in 1987, Phyllis Hyman had a song out called "Ain't You Had Enough Love"....do you know if she did a video to that song because I coulda sworn I saw a video of the song air on a Sunday edition of BET Jazz back in 2004?

  • If she did have a video for that, it's news to me! Are you sure you're not thinking of "Do You Get Enough Love" by Shirley Jones?

  • Yes, I'm positive. Maybe it was a promotional clip or somethin lol. The clip I saw looked like Phyllis, dressed in the same clothes as her Living All Alone album cover, and wind blowing through a window, misty-looking, and the song was about the same tempo lol. May have been another artist I saw or somethin, it looked like it came from the 80s for sure. Then again, I coulda been halucinating LOL

  • I don't know if you watched the Phyllis Hyman interview I posted; but she named the videos she had done up to that point, and didn't include "Ain't You Had Enough Love."

  • "Ain't You Had Enough Love" was written by a British soul group called Loose Ends, for a singer from south London called Juliet Roberts who was the first person to sing it in 1985.

I have Hyman's video for "Living All Alone." AFAIK there isn't a vid for AYHEL.

  • I've been DYING also to see some pre-1988 Video Soul interviews, so thanks for that as well, big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah, that's the only one that I caught prior to 1989! I was nine years old...wow!

  • By the way, did you notice the sound quality on the video?

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Amazing!

  • This is absolutely fabulous.Thank you so much for this clip.
