:)..Thanks for this post ,This episode has to be one of my favourite s& h shows...Always loved the more romantic interludes ,as they showed the gentle softer side of both guys..
I don`t think DS is/was particularly arogant ,the Russian pair..teacher & student ,would`ve got on my last nerve the way they patronisingly spoke out how to pronounce their names!
(Laughable ,when neither of them could say starsky or HUTCH..NOT starevsky..or HOOtch..hardly diff names!!)..love hutch in love:):)
I can't argue with that bowler8 & I'm speaking from experience,I don't like to speculate unless I've gone through it & I've had many, many issues with Americans! There cocky attitude & knowledge of other countries is very limitless. Eg. I live in Windsor,Ontario,Canada which is across from Detroit,MI & I was in Detroit one time and I had this American say to me "how is all the snow in Windsor right now?" & this was in Sept. His thought of Canada was that we were covered in snow year round,& he l
Yes. (Immigrants from Latvia and Petrograd I read someplace.) Funny that they would write it in that Hutch could pronounce the Russian name but Starsky couldn't!
If you've ever heard the premise of the show (or listened to William Blinn's creation of it), Hutch is "whitebread" and Starsky is "bluebread". Soul brilliantly brings those qualities to the character much like Glaser brilliantly brings dull, simple and unassuming qualities to the Starsky character. They balance each other both on and off the screen (from everything I've read).

Oh, my God! That's Monique van de Ven, a Dutch actress! She is very beautiful, but to be honest, I don't think she's a very good actress.

Starsky got a cross-reference in Canadian sitcom CornerGas, apparently for a slide over the hood
I like these shows, they retain a sense of 70s America, the camera operator and directors worked some magic shots
although the acting is a bit light at times they still got the "fluff"

Hutch: "You ever wonder why?"
Starsky': "Why what?"
Hutch: Life...
Starsky: "It's too early in the morning for that Hutch"
(Spoken by true friends who sometimes get on each others nerves)
LOL!! I swear I'm just like Hutch asking those 'deep" questions at the wrong times.

Was the Hutch character written to be that pompous and annoying...or was it usually a matter of the actor's true nature shining through?
peacheshill 2 years ago
Probably the latter!
