i had a mustang 2 world of suck i was not impressed i think it was just too underpowered but with the software and everything i see the potential of it
This thing also hooks up to a pc with fender fuse you can edit and save as many presets as you like with stomp boxes modulation delay, reverb all kinds of shit this things revolutionary
Tone King, this is a terrible demo. That is way to much reverb to get an idea of the sounds of any of those amp models. Please consider doing it over and letting us hear the models accurately. Thanks.
@lutech11 I was talking about the standard ones, as I do very little-to-no metal playing. I was pleasantly surprised when I bought it and there is actually a good variety.
@colinmortimore there is a presence control on some of the amp models. You need to press the amp button twice to get to it then you can edit it there. If you use the Fender Fuse software then it is much easier to use since it is displayed on the amp. The British 70s and 80s models have them but I don't know about the other models.
Hey, thanks for the review. I have a question....I'm flipping back and forth whether I will get the mustang II or III. I'm a house/room player only. I think it's worth the extra money for the screen and better celestion speaker in the III. What concerns me is if it is too much for the house. I know modelling keeps it's tone for the most part regardless of volume but do you need to crank the III a little bit to get it to sound better and get the speaker moving? Thanks.
I have the mustang III. The only way to tell if the "amp models" are the real thing is to put the "modeled amp" up against the "actual" amp itself. The amp tones are good. So are the presets.
I hate the fact that the Metal 2000 sounds awful in the Mustang series. It doesn't have the "kick", if you know what I mean. It's completely lacking the balls there. I have my Line 6 Spider III from which I can get really amazing modern metal tones, and I was wishing I could buy this amp to replace it because of the absolutely fantastic clean tones, but if I'd have to make tradeoffs with my metal tones, it's a no-go for me.
@DeXtR0uS1 I have the Mustang II 40watt Combo. Most definitely, you can. I myself have a number of BOSS pedals I use (TU-3, AC-3, MT-2, ST-2, BD-2, CE-5). I also use the Fender Fuse software to customize my amp in order to save the presets without the built-in effects.
If this is how this amp REALLY sounds, then it just proves that after 20 years amp modelers are still a waste of time & tolex . But I think it's your mic setup that's way off. It's all bassy & every model sounds the same - boomy crap. I have some of these Fender amps, the real ones, and they sound NOTHING like this garbage. A Deluxe or a Twin with the settings shown would be very bright and clean, not all woofy & nasally. Give it up dood, you just sold me OFF the Mustang amps. Tone King LOL!
what do you guys think about this amp as a gig amp? is it built well enough to lug around? is it loud enough to be heard at a larger venue? im looking at this with the matching cab. thanks
dude i dont know much about stacks but, can you plug in ANY BRAND head into ANY OTHER BRAND cabinet?? help like this head into a marshall cabinet, is that possible?
@daniyalahmed97 Yes. A cab is literally a wooden box with a speaker inside. You just have to make sure the speaker load (ohms) match what is coming out of the amp.
Is this sound coming just from that fender mustang v, or you connected it with another one? 'cause i wanted to know if those 150w are good enough for the sound of that amp
i think to dub yourself the "tone" king, you have to be able to get a good tone out of an amp. Out of all of the reviews i've seen of him, the amps all sound like shit. lol (even the good ones)
I want to buy one but I'm debating between the III and IV. They are both big enough for my needs but I don't know if the two 12" celestions will make a difference from the one. I realize it's probably just so you have more volume without blowing out. I've never owned a dual speaker amp. Also, The III comes with a two button footswitch and the IV comes with a 4 button foot switch. Musician's friend says you can buy the 4 button seperately but I can't find it. Suggestions?
@lmsjr I just bought this amp a few weeks ago and saw that it came w/ 2 speaker cables. Did you have both cables connected to the same cabinet, or were you using 2 cabs? I'm not real gear savvy and have been leary of plugging both cables into the same cabinet without knowing what will happen. Please Help! Thanks!
@LegoSniperBoss: dude, you plug in both cables into the head and then into the fender 4x12 mustang cab, reason its a stereo head into a stereo cab - can you dig it!!!
I really don't have the impression that I have heard the "base sounds" of this amp...most of the default presets are scooped as hell and drowned in reverb, which would make every base sound on the planet sound like crap imo.
It would've been much more helpful, if you went through all the models with a flat eq and little to no reverb.
I believe that the true test of an amp is trying out all three major pickups on it (HB's, single-coils, AND P-90's) and if it sounds great with single-coils and P-90's, I say go for it. And this amp works great with P-90's! I say go for it!
I just gotta say, that normally, if you're looking to play a P-90 guitar, "it's not a tube" is a valid argument. Most solid-states and modeling amps don't bring out the punchy mids of a P-90 pickup, especially the Vox VT series amps (makes the pickup too dark and muddy).
That being said, concerning P-90 pickup guitars, tube/solid state is not an issue here. I was shocked to find that a Les Paul Junior I test-drove at GC sounded surprisingly GREAT through the Mustang III's Bassman setting!!
@Philtration modeling amps are good, but I don't find it hard to tell the difference, when U are recording it is no contest which one stands out ( tube ) tube amps just sound way better period, I like the deluxe VM, as U get the best of both worlds, but when U have to many effects on the tube signal path, it will always impact the tube tone some what, and that is the reason I love my bassman, it is just pure tube tone, no verb ect, just lovely warm chime
@UKToneKing Oh I do know that a great tube amp is better.
I used to own a late 1960s Deluxe Reverb and it sounded so good it could make you cry.
I just don't know why some guys get all bend out of shape when a amp is not a tube amp.
I own a Mustang III that I am happy with and it cost a lot less than a Fender Hot Rod DeVille.
I like being able to dial in a clean Princeton tone and then switch to a over driven Marshall on the spot and have them both sound really close to the real thing.
@Philtration I think the mustangs are good for what they are, but side buy side, they don't sound like a princeton U know, it is funny U should say princeton, we had one in my mates store, a reissue, and it sounded a lot different to the modeling amp, the tone was their, but the quality was not, it just felt like it had that princeton sound, but it was stuck trying to get out, I thought the fender D TEC amps clean sound was better, under the jazz setting
i love this amp just played it to day, not to mention i dont like fender or solid state but this is better than any marshall i've played and its thicker and more chunky(very full) awesome versetallity on it
Hey Toneking. Thanx you plenty for all your videos. I'v seen quite a few of them, and really appreciate all the demoes! This head does not sound anything like I would have thought. And I was allmost sure I was going to buy it, with the mustang 4x12 cabinet. I just wanted to check with you, what cabinet you had it running on. The sound you are getting is not at all what I was expecting. Or maybe this thing just sounds bad with anything but a singlecoil pickup? Thanx in advance! Excuse my spelling
i want to save up for an amp, but i don't know what to buy. i'm looking at the fender super sonic. i play hard rock and metal. is the overdrive channel on the super sonic good enough by itself to play hard rock? someone please respond
Nice video. This amp sounds pretty similar on all models with various degrees of reverb and distortion. Has a very muffled compressed tone but maybe it's the video
Reminds me of the early line 6 amps fender models. There's no real chug on the 90's model like the amp it's trying to emulate. I'd rather have a Vypyr for 300 and get better tone and bang for buck.
Only good amp models are the Twin Reverb and the Super-Sonic. Sounds like you could get as heavy as Yngwie on it. The American 90s is not bad, sounds pretty EVH. All the rest is terrible. But, you get what you pay for.
Guitarists are always whining about tube amps. Fuck tube. If you can play, you're gonna get laid. If you're that picky about tone, you've probably been yanking it for years.
@wuezili Amen brother! Truer words were never spoken. If it sounds good, use it. Some of the best tones out there right now come from amps like Line 6, Peavy and Zoom. All are modeling. All are priced right.
@wuezili true, except for the getting laid part. Wanking is easier, cheaper and less time consuming with the same end result anyway, kind of like modeling technology when you think of it.
Man, you were right about that SuperSonic and having a lot of gain. I just bought a Diamond Nitrox and that is on par with the gain structure of my kick ass amp. Not bad for $300, but I don't think it can leave the bedroom or the garage practice.
Hey Tone King, what about the Super Champ XD. Most of the same models of Fender amps but its a tube amp (sort of) It sounds better than this. And its in the same price range but it doesnt come in a head, only a 10" combo.
modeling amps are good for students and people with not much money and for bedroom use.(smaller version) hands down. But, if you have the money and trained ear, you will agree about the fact, that a good modeling amp is never as good as a good valve amp. The true sound and dynamic of a analog valve amplifier can never be achived with modeling technology. It's like programming an working AI... great Sci-Fi, but not possible in the next decades and centuries imo.
there seems to be a lot of breakup at low gain settings. This puppy isn't my cup of tea, It could be a lot of fun for bedroom bangers, but not for myself.
Hey TTK I played this amp and I will admit I am not that into amp modeling these days but still I would be lying if I said this amp did not tear it uo because it does its freaking awesome
@hawg427 - He probably fiddled with the physical knobs sometime after making presets for the amp models. I used to have a Boss GT8 which operated in much the same manner. If he nudged one of those knobs a tad, the virtual knob would move to the same position. Until then, the preset takes priority.
@TMVowns Not really... Its not shit mate. Its just a really cheap amp which can do pretty much anything for its value. And lets all accept it, it sounds like 60's-70's.
You forgot to demo the last preset....american 2000. This amp is okay. The youtube video makes it sould like it has that "blanket over it" sound. ....kinda muffled. ....not crisp and clean.
this thing puts way to much bass into it especially the fender princeton 65 because I own one and I know what it should sound like and that was definitely not what that beautiful amp sounds like! Although the super sonic did sound good.
@lmsjr hey tone king, would you consider doing reviews of some Xavier guitars? The look good, but the price almost seems too low for what they claim to be.
Absolute killer video. I'm not a fender fan at all but I'm starting to wonder if this Mustang isn't the way to go for versatility... In your opinion, is this comparable to the Vox VT100?
@slimmetalpickin Don't know much about the Vox ... but here's the thing ... this is a STEREO head w/ KILLER models for 300 bucks. Get a coupon code from your favorite retailer and your'e easily at 275-ish ... probably the best deal going for an amp head right now! This amp is a game changer (IMO).
@lmsjr The problem is Fender excludes themselves from just about all of the big box retailer sales coupons and codes. You might be able to still score 'em if the manager "lets it fly" but Fender is fairly strict on that. To me, the presets aren't really anything their Cyber series hasn't been doing for years...just an updated package. I had the Cyber Twin SE but after a few months, the Borg boxes always bore me and they get resold. No warmth...and THAT is where tubes shine.
@lmsjr: I agree that it is a game changer. Seen a lot of crap peddled as the real deal and in the real world they all come up bupkus! Its about time yall! Maybe, music companies will wake up and not charge us so much money for gear!
It's the guitar dude. DBZ's tone fucking suck. which is really sad because they look AMAZING :(

And for the record, this guy didn't show the Metal 2000 model at all. Must have been a mis-set on his amp. The unspecified tones are here:
British '60s = VOX AC30
British '70s = Marshal Major
British '80s = Marshal JVM800 (not sure)
American '90s = Mesa Boogie Mark IV
Metal 2000 = Peavey 6505
Enjoy!

Only good amp models are the Twin Reverb and the Super-Sonic. Sounds like you could get as heavy as Yngwie on it. The American 90s is not bad, sounds pretty EVH. All the rest is terrible. But, you get what you pay for.

Sounds like crap
Voe0123 1 year ago
Guitarists are always whining about tube amps. Fuck tube. If you can play, you're gonna get laid. If you're that picky about tone, you've probably been yanking it for years.
wuezili 1 year ago 88
@wuezili Probably the most interesting comment I've received in a long time! It's an instant classic!
lmsjr 1 year ago 40
@wuezili Amen brother! Truer words were never spoken. If it sounds good, use it. Some of the best tones out there right now come from amps like Line 6, Peavy and Zoom. All are modeling. All are priced right.
smacman68 1 year ago
@wuezili that's great!!!!! hahahahahahaaaaaaaaa

if you just play to get pussy dont even call yourself a musician.

@Mr1stlevel if you play to get pussy it means you play to get pussy and not for the art of music.
hence if you play to get pussy you're not a musician.
morons like you make me rage.
AnOddMusician 2 weeks ago
@wuezili true, except for the getting laid part. Wanking is easier, cheaper and less time consuming with the same end result anyway, kind of like modeling technology when you think of it.

houseband239 1 year ago
@houseband239 i agree - toneking back of the gain.
svenzia 1 year ago
Very cool amp !!!
ElGbayRGX 1 year ago
Man, you were right about that SuperSonic and having a lot of gain. I just bought a Diamond Nitrox and that is on par with the gain structure of my kick ass amp. Not bad for $300, but I don't think it can leave the bedroom or the garage practice.
smacman68 1 year ago
Hey Tone King, what about the Super Champ XD. Most of the same models of Fender amps but its a tube amp (sort of) It sounds better than this. And its in the same price range but it doesnt come in a head, only a 10" combo.
belowthesmile 1 year ago 2
modeling amps are good for students and people with not much money and for bedroom use.(smaller version) hands down. But, if you have the money and trained ear, you will agree about the fact, that a good modeling amp is never as good as a good valve amp. The true sound and dynamic of a analog valve amplifier can never be achived with modeling technology. It's like programming an working AI... great Sci-Fi, but not possible in the next decades and centuries imo.
behemoth666123 1 year ago
there seems to be a lot of breakup at low gain settings. This puppy isn't my cup of tea, It could be a lot of fun for bedroom bangers, but not for myself.

@AcousticBeaver It's this recording . I own this amp and love it!

Hey TTK I played this amp and I will admit I am not that into amp modeling these days but still I would be lying if I said this amp did not tear it uo because it does its freaking awesome
akaboo69 1 year ago
hey ttk i see that the reverb tone knob is at 1but on the display its showing 5.5?
MusicToMyEars36 1 year ago
It looked like the display had nothing to do with what you had your amp knobs set at. This is a non-tube amp correct? Not bad at all.
hawg427 1 year ago
@hawg427 - He probably fiddled with the physical knobs sometime after making presets for the amp models. I used to have a Boss GT8 which operated in much the same manner. If he nudged one of those knobs a tad, the virtual knob would move to the same position. Until then, the preset takes priority.
CallistoAshus 1 year ago
I've played through this, sounds pretty good for 300 bucks, but i would save the extra 250 for a peavey vypyr head

i have a awesome pignose g40v thats broke :( well not broke just not working. its not a tube thats out but something else

sounds terrible im not gonna lie. sounds like total shit.

@TMVowns I agree. It sounds worse than a Line6. Buzzy fuzzy tone like an AM radio.

@TMVowns
I totaly agree with you dude . Noth special in it .. amp sound not just modeling .. it sounds Bad Modeling .
Dont see point of buying such a crap
zgf12345 1 year ago 2
@TMVowns Not really... Its not shit mate. Its just a really cheap amp which can do pretty much anything for its value. And lets all accept it, it sounds like 60's-70's.
PAPASPIDERMAN 1 year ago
You forgot to demo the last preset....american 2000. This amp is okay. The youtube video makes it sould like it has that "blanket over it" sound. ....kinda muffled. ....not crisp and clean.
jbstorck 1 year ago
give us some clean sounds
mrkyt77 1 year ago
Ever run out of room in the studio with all those amps? Do play any of them after the demo vid's are done???
jjulch 1 year ago
this thing puts way to much bass into it especially the fender princeton 65 because I own one and I know what it should sound like and that was definitely not what that beautiful amp sounds like! Although the super sonic did sound good.
motorxtp199 1 year ago
This recording was much bassier than others I;ve heard of this amp, still sounds good though. I'm thinking Fender is doing something right.
ArielsSmartyPants 1 year ago
I think it would look cooler if fender set the amp up like you have it standing now.
themodernguitarist 1 year ago
@lmsjr hey tone king, would you consider doing reviews of some Xavier guitars? The look good, but the price almost seems too low for what they claim to be.
trogador95 1 year ago
Lots of bang for the buck! Distortions sound a bit fuzzy? but u have to remember its only a few hundres bucks. Vox may be another option
divgtrslingr 1 year ago 2
Gonna have to take another listen when the audio is fully processed in higher definition. It seems to have tons of bottom end though.
nght5tlkr 1 year ago
Absolute killer video. I'm not a fender fan at all but I'm starting to wonder if this Mustang isn't the way to go for versatility... In your opinion, is this comparable to the Vox VT100?
slimmetalpickin 1 year ago 2
@slimmetalpickin Don't know much about the Vox ... but here's the thing ... this is a STEREO head w/ KILLER models for 300 bucks. Get a coupon code from your favorite retailer and your'e easily at 275-ish ... probably the best deal going for an amp head right now! This amp is a game changer (IMO).
lmsjr 1 year ago 7
@lmsjr Hey tone king, would you consider doing some reviews of Xavier Guitars? They seem too good for their price, but ive never heard one.
trogador95 1 year ago
@lmsjr The problem is Fender excludes themselves from just about all of the big box retailer sales coupons and codes. You might be able to still score 'em if the manager "lets it fly" but Fender is fairly strict on that. To me, the presets aren't really anything their Cyber series hasn't been doing for years...just an updated package. I had the Cyber Twin SE but after a few months, the Borg boxes always bore me and they get resold. No warmth...and THAT is where tubes shine.
Maxx61 1 year ago
@lmsjr: I agree that it is a game changer. Seen a lot of crap peddled as the real deal and in the real world they all come up bupkus! Its about time yall! Maybe, music companies will wake up and not charge us so much money for gear!

@slimmetalpickin:the vox vt100 is crap, had it and it blew major balls!
