I can not believe it my favorite "Dead Can Dance" piece set to Indo fusion and beautifully executed! Like a dream that came true. I was wondering how that music could work. WONDERFUL!
Very well executed, and to a beautiful song none-the-less. There seems to be this beautiful blend of Indian Traditional, Belly Dance and ATS styles of dance, so bravo to being able to do that fusion of all three.
Thanks, Kay. Yeah, I'm a fusionist all the way. I guess I'm a past-life Roma...integrating the cultures together. When I won a championship award at the "Bellydancer of the Universe" competition years ago, it was for the first year they had the "Fusion" category. Any surprise that was my category? Ha!
Have you been making more of a move towards Indian Traditional? Seems like alot of your videos are leaning that way now with the Shiva dances and the Durga vrs. The Demon. I have to say, it's interesting to watch because it's like watching a story being told through hands, which is also what persian-style dance does as well.
I'd been thinking of taking some classical Indian and trying a fusion blend, but I'd best get a solid grounding in Egyptian Cabaret first. :-P
I have been doing both dance styles since my youth.
So, in these shows in Canada and Spain, I was doing some items that were purely classical Indian, some various bellydance, and some fusion.
Yes, Bharata Natyam has a weatlh of hand mudras that are used for both "pure dance" as well as to tell stories in dance dramas. It is originally a temple dance and the stories were typically spiritual tales to inspire devotees.
Yes, it's good to get grounded in one before taking on another! :o)
P.A Very good-keep at it and I love your interpretation very nice-taught quite a bit myself and few men take an interest
Nice to see a very strong interpretation-nice take on it. I would like to see some more with break-with the knees instead of the slides....as I think it could look a bit more tribal and it would be very good also. Like the durga positions with more mudras-but not too feminized at all-good stuff-keep it up I will ck more out...
Thanks! This performance is from a few years ago, so, my dance keeps evolving into new expressions all the time. Glad you liked the interpretation of this one. ;o)
Thanks for the positive comments. I studied bellydancing in high school for my physical education class. It was a very alternative school and we had many interesting classes. Over the years I have studied with many different teachers in workshop settings and studied classical Indian dance as well.
very impressive! I didn't think a man could do that...as for whoever said that women do it to "show off"...using the skills you have dedicated a portion of your life to learning isn't showing off (unless maybe your doing it in a very inappropriate place :-)
Wow, you are amazing. May I even say... a little better then the female bellydancers? A lot (but not all) of them today just dance to show off and look skanky. Bellydance is an artful form of dance.
I've been fortunate to have watched many Prince Andrew performances live, and he's incredible! Not only is he a phenomenol dancer, but a really nice person.
is the first time in my life i see a male bellydancer, such a ignorant it is me, but is this common ? well i just tell i dont know about this issue, but, is this common? i thought the male just can dance dabka in the arabic world:(
Love the spreading feet at the begining! Very impressive torso tech... not so sure about the "dynamics" of the moves... a bit too fast/agressive for my taste! But GREAT JOB!
Wow, this guy is graceful and masculine and absolutely fantastic!
