Mr.Whitman's voice is a freak of nature. It's absolutely incredible. Thankfully, he's recorded a ton of songs for us to enjoy for many years after he's gone to his reward with his beloved wife. Thanks for posting Slim's music.
Doug - Yes, Slim is still with us. He doesn't perform any longer and he is in rather frail health, but he's hanging in there. A few years ago a rumor started that he had died. He immediately went public with the statement that the rumors were obviously premature. :-) He did lose his beloved wife a couple of years ago.
Slim Whitman is my 82 yr old dad's greatest favourite! I've been listening to his songs as a little girl & have been inlove with them! Thank you guys for posting them here! Such sensational voice and songs which brings back the sweet memories of those tender years that I'll always cherished!!!

Slim always reminds me of my dad (who is still with us) ;) Dad has a similar voice. Wonderful memories of my early days in London. A voice of an angel and a true gent to go with....long live country music. Thanks Dad & Slim
Slim Whitman was thr first artist to have a chart hit with Cattle Call. It made #11 on the Billboard charts in 1955 about 6 months before Eddy Arnold finally hit with it.
Beautiful! Always love him no matter what he's singin'. I just ordered a new release recorded this year by Slim. Called Twilight On The Trail. . Isn't it marvelous?86 and counting. It is available on Amazon for $ 24.78. All classic Trail Songs. Can't wait to get it! weezeedav@yahoo.com
I was privileged to see Slim perform in Glasgow, Scotland on many occasions from 1975, when he STOOD signing autographs, leant against a wall, after the show to his final tour in late 2002, if I am correct. A unique talent and a true gentleman. His 1955 hit single "Rose Marie"was the longest running number 1 hit on the UK charts until Bryan Adams broke the record in 1991 after 36 years.
i love this song my grandpa and i yodeled together to this and when i play this song i remember it thanks for the memorys your slim whitman video brings up. slim whitman is a legend!!

Hi folks,is there anybody that may have "the great judgement day" by Slim, as this really sends shivers down my spine,I grew up listening to this man "BRILLIANT"
I first heard this song when I was in the 4th grade.....1959. My aunt, who was a nurse in the Korean war returned to San Diego to care for the wounded. Eventually she came home. For Christmas she got a Magnovox stereo player and an Lp of Slim Whitman. I learned the yodal..... I listended to that Magnovox all of the time.
Mr. Whitman is such a gifted singer and talent; his songs always make me smile & appreciate what a gift we have in life itself. I've been listening to him from the 80s' & still do into the 21st Century. Due to Slim's immense popularity; I thought he was from Europe...no joke. I lived in Europe several years & still follow bands from there. I was surprised when this talented gem of a gentleman was from the USA! Wow. Maria, thank you so much for posting this video of the great Slim Whitman! Peace
i like it but i think i like eddy arnold's yoadaling better, but still old songs like this are just so enjoyabul. not all 14 yr olds are mislead when it comes to music =)
I saw Slim Whitman on the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport, LA while I was still in high school. He is one of Americas great song stylists/yodelers and I believe he worked at the Shreveport Post Office while appearing on the Louisiana Hayride. I retired as Postmaster of Rayville, LA in 2003. Visit my website: thecountryrebel com and youtube/genestewart71269.
I had never heard of Slim until sometime in the 60's. we were living in Australia and my wife said she would like to see him at the White City stadium. Well, when he walked on stage, already yodelling Cattle Call, I was hooked. Met him after the show, at my wife's request and thought he was a little bit 'big-headed', but, hey, with a voice like that, guess he has a right to be! I still love listening to him, about 40 years later.
Love Slim! Love this rendition. He is unique. What can we do to get this man into the Hall of Fame? Let's do it! Thanks so much for posting this mariaslide.
Well you should hear Slim doing Cattle Call as he recorded it in the early 1950s.
It was played all over Britain - Eddy was not in the game. This version of Slim's was done later. The original had a much stronger yodel and country twag and
the famous early sound of Hoot Rains on the Steel Guitar.
Allthough I sometimes laugh at the stereotype of a guy in a cowboy suit singing about cows, spurs, coyotes, and all things western, Slim really does have a golden voice and not many men can warble those high notes as smoothly.
My father used to sing and yodel this when I was just a lad. I played this for him one day and he sat grinning listening remembering. Thanks Slim for the memory.
Wow Slim sure squeals high in the beginning of the song. JK :) This guy is talented. Its just that you rarely hear this type of country music being played and perform these days.
Slim Whitman may be remembered mostly for MARS ATTACKS! however I have always enjoyed his music , it is fun and uplifting, something today's music lacks. Way to go Slim!
Since 1980, I have lived in Middleburg, & not a person here that did not know Slim, or who he was. Our house was less than a mile from his, and drove by it every day going into Jacksonville. Whenever people wouild ask where i was from I always told them, "Middleburg, home of the Singing Cowboy, the #1 sensation in Europe!" Well loved and well thought of here.
yeah, I am from Middleburg, I was a realtor for a number of years there. You must be talking about the place up on old jennings...nice property- they had about 15 acres or so out that way.
Thats very interesting, i live near York in England, Slim to me is the best singer ever. Have you ever met him or had contact with him? I tried to contact him many years ago but never received a reply, i think i was given the wrong contact details. he is also well loved and thought of here.
@58baza58 - In all the time I have lived down here close to him, I have never seen or spoken to him. I think my wife may have seen him once or twice, driving by his house. In fact, I heard more about one of the Wizard of Oz Munckins that lived about 8 miles from me, than I have ever heard about Slim. I guess that my mother raised me with good manners - I just can't seem to bring myself to just walk up to his front door & knock - it just seems to be a rude thing to do. So I admire from afar.
I grew up yodeling my best to call the cows for milking, imagine a scrawney 7-year old doing the "Cattle Call" back in the very early '70s...that's me.
Thanks for posting this and bringing back some insanely old memories!!
Every time when I hear this song, I always think of the film "My Own Private Idahoe" of River Phoenix as the favorite actor, even if he passed away. I still love him and "Cattle Call"
When I was a lot younger Slim was made fun of for his singing and his yodeling....something got left out somewhere that we as kids didn't notice or realize....this guy could sing!. Nice job Slim.
hi.i glenteman man is great have being listening to slim since a boy into manhood enjoyed it all these years, his music gives me alift, best to all.from n.ireland
