  • His NAME is BUHAINA but it is spelled BLAKEY NOT BLACKEY!!!!

  • @CaneCorsoJazz Thanks for this little historical lecture, is Buhaina African? It sounds that way, greets Vic.

  • @Jazzguts ....I wasnt yelling at you even though may it appear that way...lol.... His name is Arab derived more or less by way of Africa (Alkebulan). He was a Muslim.

  • You are extraordinary.

  • @charlesneedham Thank you, I just believe in what I do,greets Vic.

  • It's a Bossa Nova version,isn't is?

  • @AlvaroElPuerto Certainly,as you can hear,Vic.

  • Hi Victor,

Goed idee en waardevol voor vele amateurs. Doe je dit m.b.v. Band-In-A-Box ?

  • This is great! Are you a teacher by any chance?

  • @arkangelzero I'm a teacher in ordinary life,thank you,Vic.

  • great job man

  • I vic, you're really great. Can you see the version of mine? You can look on my channel, thank you. I want to become a great jazz guitarist, I've learned so many things with your videos. Thank you so much

  • @eclipse707 Somehow I didn't get notice by Youtube for your nice comment sorry for that, thanks so much,Vic.

  • Marvelous.

background muziek hoe of wat ??

    Thanks !!

  • I like it. I'm dabbling on the guitar but I'm nowhere near to upload a video of me :)

  • @Blues251 Just keep at it and be critical about yourself and most of all enjoy making Music,Vic.

  • I love that you look at the camera at the beginning and let us join you. Thanks for connecting....not to mention ..that you are a smoothe operator dancing all over those frets. LOL

    Pamela

  • Thanks,Harky1951 I think connecting with your audience is very important.I'm glad you find so much pleasure in listening to my Music.all the best Vic.

  • I'm learning this song now. You play it so awesome.

  • You sound so good, I whish I could play with you bass (I am a bass player :-)

May I ask what you use for your backing tracks? Is this band in a Box or your own arrangements?

    Excellent!

  • Thanks Country, glad you liked it,I enjoy playing bass myself too, especially walking bass. this is an older B.I.B. version set on Bossa, for this style it sounds pretty good, cheers Vic.

  • Love this piece. You play it beautifully.

  • Thanks Sista, hope all's well with you and your guitar playing,Vic.

  • Practice, practice. Never enough time. But now I'm able to get through a few of the standards in order to accompany myself. That's the fun stuff.

For the discipline, I'm studying 6-2-4-5-1 progressions in two positions, numerous arpeggios and diatonic and blues scales some major and minor 9ths, and a 13th shape on the 6th string. So , yeah, I've been working. Thanks for asking. And thanks for the shining example.

  • Good Sista, see you're doing some drilling Stuff which always comes in handy in various situations. Try to incorporate that Stuff into your playing right away and they will lead a long life(you'll always be using them) all the best, Vic.

  • A fine honor indeed!

  • Thanks Eddie, hope all's well with you, cheers Vic.

  • Great job. I heard the version by Don Sugarcane Harris on violin. Nice to see it on the guitar as I'm trying to work out my own version. Got the chords and melody just need to put it together. You played it masterfully. You look pleased with yourself as you look in the camera at the end.

  • @aspirepacman1972 Thanks there are several good versions of this piece, at the end I know that I have done a decent job,It all felt very good and then it is good (nearly always)cheers Vic.

  • When I was 4 or 5 years old I used to play the this song over and over again. This song and "The In Crowd" by the Ramsey Lewis Trio were what started my love of jazz.

  • @bwix Great memories of great music, cherish them, cheers Vic.

  • Here is something interesting....

the tune "Blue Silver" by Blue Mitchell

well Horace composed it also and

it sounds totally different its like 2-tunes

check them out you'll be surprised !

    cheers, Victor

  • Oh Yes........

    Silver what an arranger

great tune for major against the minor

Check out "Silver's Serenade" he gives you space on it!

    Cheers on another masterpiece.

your friend Victor Soult / Richmond VA USA

  • Thanks Victor you carry my name, welcome again, here some day I was looking at at a 12/8 Blues and what expression in performance with great solo from trumpeter Blue Mitchel, cheers Vic.

  • Hi Vic,

I have never heard this piece before... I am sorry.

But NOW I am happy again! because YOU played it for me!

    Gracias Amigo!

    Per

  • @AndanteLargo Per it's a quite well known Jazz standard, but I understand you can't know all the tunes, there's a gigantic repertoire out there, cheers Vic.

  • Love your playing!

Very impressive video and audio quality.

What kind of camcorder do you use?

    Warmest regards,

  • @selenny1 thanks I use the camcorder (built in) from my Mac-osx core2, cheers Vic.

  • Hey Vic, Loved it .........your work is really lovely, sweet lines that are very melodic.......... I am workin on my playin daily... If U can ; check out my improv. on Our Day Will Come....Got a new camcorder and I am still not sure of the settings..........KEEPON STRUMMIN...DALLAS

  • @Tototwice Thanks, very busy at the moment but I'll drop over when I get chance, all the best,Vic.

  • Incredible. Im floored everytime

  • @deadeonzx thanks for your visit,Vic.

  • Hi Victor,

nicely played as ever. I think you're quite right Horace Silver has left us some great tunes. Sophisticated but down to earth and sort of bluesy at the same time. And as you will know a lot of people know just a little bit of his music without knowing anything about Horace Silver thanks to Steely Dan's "Rikki Don't Lose That Number"... ;-)

  • @vladgromek Don't tell me that Horace wrote that tune, no it isn't true? cheers Vic.

  • no, I'd never dare tell you so... ;-) but the intro to Rikki DLTN with its octave "riff" cites "Song For My Father" as recorded (and composed) by Horace Silver clearly enough to be recognized not just as a brazen rip off but as a honest tribute.

  • @vladgromek OK I get the picture, well you know the Dann they're always listening to the Jazz guys that's why their Music is always so harmonic (and ,melodic) interesting,so a quote here and there is quite understandable, b.t.w. there's a recording of Senor Blues I sent out and there Horace is playing absolutely great on a 12/8 Blues, really incredible, check it out. Vic.

  • just listening to Senor Blues... these 12/8 pieces are great because you can sort of change your "internal" groove by counting in units of 3 or 4 which both go well within the 12...

  • For some reason my post didn't,, well post. I was saying this is one of my all times fave songs. You do it such great justice. It gives me hope for my own playing. Keep up the great work.

  • @greatvanzinni thanks just keep working everyday and you'll get there, cheers Vic.

  • A great tune and beautifully played. I've got several HS tunes in my repertoire, but you've given me some new insights into this one. Thanks!

  • @pabzum Thanks Pablo, gladly done man, he wrote fantastic work, glad I could give you some ideas, cheers Vic.

  • BEAUTIFUL--TRULY --I love your sound--

  • @stephystills thanks glad you enjoyed, hope to welcome you more here, greetings Vic.

  • Oh man, that was sweet! Love that tune. That's your Ibanez GB-20, yes? A few years ago I was in Curaçao and there some cats playing at the Avila Hotel in the west part of Willemstad. The guitarist had a GB-20 and a couple of GB-10s. Wonder if they are still there?

  • @peleka Well in a weeks time I'll be going in that direction and if it's nice I'll jam along, they're mighty fine guitars, looking forward to get away from this cold weather, cheers Vic.

  • So sweet. So smooth. Loved it. Nice guitar too. Can't read the head stock.... Gibson? Gotta run Victor. Catch you later. Thanks for another beauty.

    Lance

  • @mprovision thanks Lance, always welcome my dear friend, thought you'd like this one, be sure to check out my latest "Daytripper" I'm sure you'll have a ball,I did playing it and making up the parts,Vic.

  • @JAZZFLEX09 thanks brother, time's nearing for Curacao trip, looking out to it. thanks for for great comment and thanks so much for tuning in,abrazo Vic.

  • Hi Vic,

Thats a really nice version. I allways loved that sonng. First i heard it live from the violin player Sugar Cane Harris at the Berliner Jazztage.

    Thanks!

    Hermann

  • @HermannCordes5 thanks Hermann,be sure to listen to my next tune "Daytripper" with improvisation, all the best,Vic.

  • Thank you very much :)

  • @tarnatalia you're very welcome,cheers Vic.

  • Hey man great smooth playing!

I was wondering how you made that drum track, is it live drums or some software?

  • @varunjewalikar thanks it was created in the old band in a box, these types of grooves(samba,Bossa) are better than the regular swing. the new B.I.B. has improved with quite natural sounding programmable basic tracks, cheers Vic.

  • thnks

  • Maybe your best perfomance.Thank you.

  • @narancor thanks for always being here and commenting,Vic.

  • I tried to think of my own late father while you played. Thanks :)

  • @organicpaul He smiled to you from the fields of pure light, love Vic.

  • As always a great job!

  • @jetking2 thanks for always listening and letting me know,Vic.

  • Man I love this tune. I play it at all my gigs. Nice job.

  • @bjazzer795 It has a great melody,in it's simplicity you still can add nice sophisticated licks that's what I like about it, thanks,Vic.

  • Wonderful!!! One of my favorite tunes. I played this back when I was in jazz band. Such a classic tune.

  • @jwwetzel thanks James, indeed a Classic but nicely composed and always a pleasure to play, you can keep it simple but if you want you can sneak in some sophistication, greets Vic.

  • Vic, I have always love this song, in fact, my uncle Pilar, would play this all the time. Horace Silver, boy, do I remember him all so well. I love what you did to this tune. It brings back a lot of wonderful memories. Always a pleasure to hear this song. Thanks so much for sharing it with me too. Peace be with you. Best to you for this wonderful New Year.

    Hen

  • @HenQ715 thanks Hen,it's a great little tune which I enjoy jamming on, from the first time I heard it I fell in love with it, thanks for your visit and hope all's well with your health,Vic.

  • beautiful

  • Alexis,thank so much,Vic.

  • Your videos are full of magical music.

Thanks for posting ... and let us enjoy

    Best Regards

  • Thanks yamitanomura, if it's magic it arises like the morning sun and again gazing with eyes full of sleep,Vic.

  • I like the drum beat on this tune...it sort of fills different holes in the music.

    Great job Vic !

  • @peterqb24 thanks so much, I also played freely over this great beat it was pushing me forward like a cascade, cheers Vic.

  • That was just pure gold! There are so many good guitar players in YT, but I have rarely heard anyone play each note so clean and make such tasteful arrangements of these jazz classics. And the sound of that guitar is heavenly, especially when you emphasize the bass lines.

  • @abhikmazumder Your love of Music speaks from your statements, for me Music is pure "Art" and I treat her with deepest respect, every nuance has to be there and on the spot, I owe it to her,Vic.

  • Brilliant! Your passion is very evident here---incredible how you can play such difficult songs from memory.

  • @beautyjudge It's great you mention this, Jazz is about visualizing, hearing, interacting, it's about having the Music "INSIDE" of you, that's the difference with reading Music from paper,Vic.

  • Oh, Vic! Now my life is complete. Between David Benoit's cover on piano, and The Guru of Cool pulling us along on the end of his strings, wow! This is sweeter than a cuba libre after a surfside promenade!

Cheers, ~Terry -- (my sister has discovered you via Freddy's site! LOL. You know what they say about a "prophet" in their own home. It doesn't matter to me if she took a circuitous route to "discover" you; the point is she is duly awed by your smooth style.)

  • @BocaFriend Terry, oh yes Dave Benoit, mighty fine player and his collab with Emily Remler(R.I.P.)for me was among the high lights, see you love the Stuff I also listen too. What about Lee Ritenouer "Wes meets East" I'll drink 6 cuba libres while fantasising to that Music,if your sister is just as good as you with words I'm a lucky guy,big hug Vic.

  • My sister is good with words, but seldom parts with them! She is less likely to post than anyone! In the

meantime, yes -- I went to listen to Emily Remler's

"Blues for Herb" when you invoked her name. Such

a talent. And I've sent you a Wes meets East type of byproduct of this thread. The remarkable young artist JonathanStAmour is truly worthy of seeing!

And I have to thank for my discovery of him! ~Terry

  • @BocaFriend Terry you're welcome, through the big heap of what's offered here on YT you sometimes have to look with magnifying glass to find the gems, you'll find them thought, I'll have a listen to your mail, big hug Vic.

  • Outstanding Victor 5* I love the tone you get I should have saved this one for Sunday morning coffee.......greetings from across the pond

  • @woodytfc Thanks, well don't worry just watch it on sunday morning as well,no problem,LOL, greetings vIc.

  • Great chord progressions, Vic, that was fantastic. I enjoyed every second of this one, believe me. I love your smooth sound coming from that guitar and your fingers...although you know sound is not always that important for me. It´s your playing. And this one was the highlight of the day here on YT.Thank you!

    Frank

  • @LONGWINDING thanks so much Frank, that's a great statement brother and you know when it's playing and recording time my concentration level rises and I hope for the best, that's improvisation. Great having you here my friend with your musical and critical ears, Vic.

  • This is it, Vic!!

    You've got the sound, man!

    Just keep on rolling :)))

  • @waciak1974 thanks, what else can I do man, everytime that guitar is calling and I simply have to give in,cheers Vic.

  • great like allways

  • semionbahtin,I'll have to play real bad to surprise you,LOL,Vic.

  • This is also a song for Sabine :-) Really enjoyed!

From where do you always get the background music Vic? I don´t mind you never need to wash your car or do other jokes on youtube - please do only play guitar!

    Hugs - Sabine

  • Hi dear Lady Sabine, I got a B.I.B.(band in a box ) program and I program these tracks myself.I , I play guitar and that's my life, others fill their earthly time with other things and hopefully they feel happy doing that. Real "Art" is what concerns me and the rest well OK but not my priority, not even the new Messiah: hedonism and making money, big hug Vic.

  • I´m afflicted with hedonism - of your smooth jazz guitar playing :) I faved it today. Don´t you know how rich you are Vic?

  • @SabMei1 Thanks Sabine,I didn't mean to sound harsh because if interpreted wrong that word has a very negative meaning, but how glad I am with your interpretation, you turned it into pure love and positivism. Yes you make me feel the richness again with words that make me aware. Your mirror is one of great friendship, hug Vic.

  • AMAZING AGAIN ...:D

  • @miulum

con que poco te impresionas, escucha Necrophagist y eso sí es guitarra jajaja

  • angelotti991,no toca para impressar solamente expressar en mi propio estillo, saludos Vic.

  • thanks miulum,always welcome,Vic.

  • metaphors dont do Vic justice.

He's the swan that can soar like and eagle while floating like a butterfly.

Visiting his youtube homepage is like visiting a master chocolatier what ever you decide to .

  • sample will be smooth, rich and sweet with a touch of class.

  • Thanks Frets200, poetic words from the Heart, you honer me. Your words have depth and while meditating on them I know what you mean, isn't it great ,the Volcano meets the Ocean in sizzling harmony? Vic.

  • I agree on that. An amazing talent :o)#

  • @Keijz74 thanks Marc and tell your father (in law) without being arrogant he's got great Taste, lol, greets Vic.

  • Well he allowed me to marry his only daughter and gave us his blessing LOL

    Marc

  • @Keijz74 Well then you're a rich man Marc,rich in blessing and a super wife,Vic.

  • I cherish her and am careful with her. <3

Handyman can not supply me with spare parts

    ;o)#

  • :o)# Prachtig Vic.

  • wow that's awesome :)

  • Thanks judge much appreciated,Vic.

  • Beautiful playing, Vic! Beautiful tone. Love Horace Silver.

    - Ben

  • thanks Ben,Horace has left quite a great heritage of quality Stuff, greets Vic.

  • Hey dear Vic,

it sounds just awesome!!! Really cool piece!! It is always a big pleasure to listen to you!! No video sounds like the other!!! I really enjoy that!! A big hug Sarah :-)

  • Thanks Sarah, glad you enjoyed and your comments are always like water in a thirsty mouth, lol, big hug Vic.

  • uh.. Thanks :-)

I always give my best to say how nice it is!!! Sleep well!! Hug Sarah :-)

  • @sguitar Sarah, and your message always comes across just great, just was experimenting with some words here for fun, mouth and thirsty seemed kinda nice, big hug and pleasant dreams Vic.

  • You are speaking in images.... I have a new video too you know you are very welcome if you have some time! Have a nice sunday! Hug Sarah :-)

  • @sguitar I love speaking in Images, there's a guitarist here in Holland named:Jan Akkerman and he uses these bright metaphors and mostly they're mind blowing because your mind's eye exactly sees what he means, very creative with words indeed not only with notes, lol, I'll have a listen, hug Vic.

  • Incredible!

  • Thanks Ben my pleasure man,Vic.

  • 5 Stars yet again Vic- Fantastic!

    Liam

  • Thanks so much Liam, thanks for your enthusiasm, great,Vic.

  • hi Vic, long time no see! You hav a *nack* for finding these Gems to play...and play them so welll. You, my friend, have a extraordinary repertoire !

    Pascal
