  • No one seems to know how hot these units can get.. do you know?

  • @josephdupont I've gotten them above 250c momentarily without any problems , however for them to last longer, no more than 180 constant.. Tegs can handle 280c (hot side), the ones I have seen.

  • just curious, why would you use TEC's and not TEG's?

  • @LiquidChem Tried them both. I did not have any at this point, was in the ordering process.

  • @luc59457 cool... just making sure you realize that tec's are designed to use power to generate heat, and teg's are designed to make current from heat and cold. higher temp rating, more effiicient, more power from teg's when producing electricity.

  • @LiquidChem Tecs are designed for that Yes, but will still work both ways. The Tecs simply have a lower temperature rating than the Tegs. Efficiency doesn't change much on these (maxed "around" 8% currently) It takes a higher TD to get more output but this does not change efficiency.

  • @luc59457 yes thats true, but you will still get more power from a teg chip than a tec based on the higher temperature differential

  • @LiquidChem The company I deal with for my TEG is currently working on a higher efficient module. The last time I checked up on it was many months ago.

  • Most Tecs are Peltier effect heat pumps, deploying P & N doped Bismuth Telluride, Lead Telluride has the same COP, but can operate at higher temperatures. so increasing the Seebeck efficiency. The Russian Army were equipped with tilly lamp, Lead Telluride Seebeck generators, output 500 Watts at 12 volts. They might be available as Army Surplus? if one hunted about.

  • They would definately be expensive.

  • Tegs are particularly for electricity generation and can withstand higher temperatures, at a cost.

  • Spitfires Army Surplus, Leominster, probably have those Russian 500 watt Tilly lamps, I doubt they would cost more than £30.

  • Send me a site... I am not from Uk dunno bout the currency

  • Sheppards Stores,Upper Hill, Leominster, Herefordshire.

They are known locally as 'Spitfires'. because they used to have a Spitfire outside their gigantic warehouses, but it was sold, as it cost too much to insure!

  • No website?

  • Too much stock! and they probably can't be bothered!...It is the Mecca of Army Surplus!

  • Send me a website as personal msg if you cannot post here plz
