yes sir i live about 20 mins away form breezwood. im off the ameranth exit on I-70 and have been up to the tunnels and walk through the one in breezwood. iv walked it more than once very cool been through at night and day. they ust to have lots of partys in the upper part where the workers would of been.
@leveraction2008 Theres always been something about those offices above the entrance to the tunnels that has made me want to go in and check those out. Thats awesome if you partied in there.
"Turnpike" is such a strange word. What is a pike? And why does it turn? The first time I visited the United States and saw a sign for the "turnpike", I was perplexed.
This tunnel was used in the recent movie 'The Road', a post-apocalyptic tale adapted from Cormac McCarthy's novel of the same name. I'm from PA and recognized it right away.
We rode this a couple of weeks ago on a lovely day. The pike 2 bike is awesome and I recommend it to anyone.... just make sure you have lights. Awesome history of the Lost Highway ... I'll be sure to watch your other videos.

I must be truthful, some of the Turnpike's -operational- tunnels give me the creeps! Something about those yellow lights and low, sloping ceilings...
Anyway, this was a fantastic and very informative video! Great job. ^_^ I've lived in NEPA all my life and I had to travel the Turnpike many a time - I never knew! Thanks so much!
I finally went to see the Sideling Hill tunnel today. It was a beautiful day to see this awesome piece of PA history. This video does a great job of capturing a great chunk of historic gold!!!
Take it from a kazillionth generation local Sideling Hill is the best one to bike through. Have a good flashlight, stay to one side and concentrate beam along curb and in front of you, watch for fallen light fixtures, rock's, etc. It's scary the first time but ater awhile it's nothing. Me and two buddies snuck in on our Harleys from a dirt road off 915 and rode them through the tunnel. Should have worn earplugs.
@1966MRspock If you know how it feels now to hear things that are too loud and annoying (so it makes it necessary to wear earplugs), why do you insists on riding a bike that makes so much noise???? It is ever so annoying to most ppl. I like Harleys, don't get me wrong, but I hate ppl that take the baffles out.....geeze!
Some time soon I want to go see these Tunnels! Ever since I learned about these Tunnels I've been so fascinated about them. There so cool, a real peace of history. Great job on the video, it gave a lot of info.
My sister and I snuck onto that highway while it was still closed to the public... we drove through both of the long tunnels in a car (not a bike), and it is dark in there, just like you showed.
You need to put "Pennsylvania Turnpike" into your Title line, then you will get many more views!!! My Quemahoning Tunnel Video shot in April has three times as many views....Great Video!
This has to be the best video I've seen on you tube. Answered lots of questions I had about the turnpike. Wish I could see it in perfect quality. even with my setting adjusted it still get a blurr and pixle thing. I looked for it on Live Search and found most of it I guess. There are two part I guess. A big part and a smaller part. I a few questions if you could answer them that would be great. thanks.
I grew up only 10 miles from here. This is one of my all-time fave places to be, right here, Fulton County's greatest treasure. I absolutely LOVED this! I loved the way it was presented. Thank you so much!
Mannie, this is AWESOME! I love the series. I wonder how long it will be before the History Channel, Travel Channel or some other station will grab you up! Or is that your idea? Might be interesting to get a collaboration of other history buffs of your (our) style to document little pieces of the MOA all across this great country.
can you get a offroad vehicle down to it?

anyone have a google maps location?
bisket2003 1 year ago
@bisket2003
Hi,
Go to google maps and click in the satellite view of Breezewood PA.
Look just to the northeast of Breezewood and you'll see it. As you zoom in it will even be labeled as "abandoned Pennsylvania turnpike".
Best wishes,
Mannie

Animals are reluctant to seek out the tunnels due to the wind that continuously courses through them.
mannie1952 1 year ago
I could not go into those abandoned tunnels. It seems like there would be a bunch of bats in there.

someone should contact Ray Romero and tell him to do a zombie movie there it would be an awsome scenic scene and perfect desolate spot ik i would lol

The tunnel would make a nice bunker for our impending nuclear holocaust. So please rebuild the Howard Johnson's, okay?
