How far CBS has fallen, that they buy an "anchor" who is so concerned about "her" sign off. "Who knows, maybe it'll stick" must have been CBS' overall rationale in the first place.
I wish CBS kept the same theme music they used for Dan Rather starting in 1991 for Katie Couric, but well played. John Williams could've done the new theme music, but James Horner's good.
um... you missed my point entirely. The point I was making is that great journalists years before Katie Couric's era didn't feel the need to hold a sign off "viewer write-in". Couric does have an impressive resume for doing years of TV news, so I felt the contest was a silly gimmick for a reputable broadcaster who can come up with her own. Now that I've clarified my point, you may resume your regular Katie viewing. :-)
um.. this video is from a long time ago... she has picked a sign off long ago and stuck with it... I used to be a loyal NBC nighly news viewer, but Now I watch Katie every night... it is a gret newscast every night...
I guess you don't "get" Katie Couric. She's not a traditional anchor. This was her way of changing up things and making the Evening News more accessible. Since then they've gone back to a very traditional format because viewers didn't respond well to it.
All you guys read way to deeply into how Katie runs her show. haha.
Then it seems like a lot of viewers nationwide besides myself don't "get" Katie Couric as you put it, if her "non traditional" format has been tossed.
Sometimes gimmicks work for awhile when running a news broadcast and sometimes they don't. In this case, it just doesn't work. Whatever happened to putting emphasis in maintaining journalistic quality over fluff?
She dosen't need a signoff.

I think it would be spectacular if CBS insisted that their Evening News anchor sign off with either of the following-
examples:
I'm Katie Couric, and that's the way it is, Thursday, June 11, 2009. Have a good evening.
or
For the CBS Evening News, Katie Couric reporting. Good night.

I wish Couric would pick a stinkin' sign off slogan and just go with it. Why should we have to pick one for her?
