According to the tier lists, why would i even use bowser or luigi? Luigi is probably my best character, but how can that be? Simple, it depends on the player more than people think. Yes, Skill > Matchups > Tiers. This is true in all instances, and player skill (of varying margin) will always trump someone playing based completely off of character stats. However, this doesn't, and never will, change the fact that some characters are inherently better than others. Player skill can make up for these weaknesses, and they always can, but (cont)
(cont) players playing with worse characters will have to work all the harder to win matches. In this sense, character statistics have a very direct and pronounced effect on the match.
And another thing; you can't just say "Oh that character is only winning a bunch of tournaments because the players that play them are the best". At high levels of play, where player skill is nearly evened out, there's got to be a reason outside of skill for dominance in tournaments? What's that, then? Stats.
Another reason why MK is so OPd: He has insanely good match-ups and like no disadvantages against any characters. Unlike people like Fox, who have about 70:30 on Ganondorf but 30:70 on Shiek, Ice climbers, and just LOLFAIL against Pikachu, MK is 50 or above against all other characters.
Imagine this situation: two characters fly at each other with different attacks. If balanced, nothing will happen, the characters will go backwards. HOWEVER, attacks have levels of "priority".
Captain Falcon, the poor guy, has the crappiest priority in the entire game. When I play as him, I almost always end up with the short end of the stick in an attack collision.
Knock-back also plays an important role in character ability. For instance, Meta-Knight has great knock-back, Sonic does not.
Of COURSE the faster characters are gonna be easier to KO with, they're faster, better at dodging, and can put the hurt on the others easier. An expert playing as say, Sonic, will be able to use large amounts of rapid combos and then send them flying with a finisher, allowing them to dominate against people that don't know how or don't have the skill to counter them.
This doesn't make them bad characters. THERE PROBLEM EXPLAINED SHUT UP.

Well one, he's just as light as kirby. At least 2 attacks from Ike's side smash leads to an easy KO. Jigglypuff is much better for chaining attacks and recovering. Also most of his attacks do not do that decent of damage. So yes skill and timing play a huge role in Meta Knight's overall effectivness on the battlefield. Also he's not the most reliable character in Free-for-alls. Even though Meta Knight's my #1 fighter. I'd much rather use Snake in free-for-alls.
and second of all you would practically have to stay still to get hit by 2 ike f smashes, and even some of his moves dont do alot of damage they are quick as hell.

Every Character has a weak spot but that is not the point. the only weak spot you have to find is your opponent. i am a meta knight fan before the game ever came out. i made meta knight good all be myself. it is the player that is good and not the character. try to see what your opponent do wrong.
first of all everybody i play with metaknight. he is my main character. he is hard to master and no not all can master him unless you put some time into him. you have to know the perfect time to do the shuttle loop, the turnabout shuttle loop, the dimesnional cape, the drill and more. he is very hard to master. you might be confused because you score combos easily. that is not mastering him.
Right, but he does have many distinct advantages. Speaking from the POV of a good MK player who plays against other good players, MK's greatest assets are his unpredictability and offense. If you're smart enough not to get hit, you'll win no matter who you are. You just have that much greater of an advantage as MK.

I'll help this in some way from a pro brawler Point of View.
Ike isn't over powered, all pro's established this. he is an above average character at best.
He's cheap if you can't air dodge, or in that matter dodge at all.
Metaknight on the other hand... He can chase, he hits like a truck, has amazing recovery to go with it also. It's not impressive to have a good Metaknight, Good for you if you do, but i think almost all pro brawlers can play Metaknight like BDawgPHD

Well, the objective analysis is that Ike, when used properly, is a lot faster than a n00b Ike. All you need to do is put pressure on, use lagless nairs as an approach, grab, jab combo, jab-grab, and basically not use many laggy moves. Ike isn't brokenly strong, but he is good, and he is viable as a player, even against other good players.
I have to say, although Meta Knight does have a pretty distinct advantage, it's in his versatility. A predictable Meta Knight would get destroyed by a good player. A lot of the things that you say make him or other characters overpowered are actually pretty easy to deal with if you think about it.
On that note, if anyone is overpowered, it's Snake =3

Well, not exactly. MK is definitely the best in the game right now, but terms like "overpowered" and "broken" are a little generous at this point. He is beatable and he although he doesn't have "counters" per se, there are a good amount of characters that can do decently well against him. Diddy, Lucario, Falco, and Snake to name a few...
You sure about that? Snake has only 10 attacks that don't telegraph. And they're all close range. And Meta Knight has sickening priority. Don't mention predictable, that's pretty much the hallmark of a very faulty player.
Well, the thing is that a MK player HAS to be unpredictable in order to win, because MK has to space properly, and contrary to popular belief a lot of characters outrange and sometimes out-prioritize him. A predictable MK stands more or less no chance against someone good.
A predictable Snake, on the other hand, is still very hard to deal with, because he's damn near impossible to kill, his tilts are ridiculous in strength, range and priority, and he has a lot of hard to deal with projectiles.

If Brawl had Melee's hitstun, Jiggs and Falcon would be more usable, Lucario would be beastly, Sonic would be much better, and yes....Meta Knight would be so unbelievably broken.

Wario does have good air control, but he doesn't have the range that Meta Knight has. Also, since MK's ground game is so good, it sets up his air game.

From my experience, a lot of other decent players get caught in it and can't get out....if you don't get out of it at the very start, you'll get stuck in it.
He tried to attack twice on the ground. And meta knight's mach tornado doesn't have enough knockback to make an up kill. He midair jumped after getting hit. The person playing Wario only did 2 attacks. He didn't have any midair defense either. You can just hit the shield button mid air to dodge the attack.

if W starts off with the bike, MK can just do the tornado, and when MK spams his uair combo like that, its a combo, theres no way W would be fast enough to do his dair, W should have just flown away from the air combo completely.
Meta Knight's too insane....his strength is in his versatility, there's no way to defend against EVERYTHING he has to dish out....but if the MK player is too predictable, it all falls apart.
not really. with every single character in the game, characters are used differently. MK may be predictable with the fact that he will always charge u to get in close (since has almost no range), some players might choose to use the b-attacks more than the a's, or some are really god at low jumping and can air combo like shitcrazy

Well one, he's just as light as kirby. At least 2 attacks from Ike's side smash leads to an easy KO. Jigglypuff is much better for chaining attacks and recovering. Also most of his attacks do not do that decent of damage. So yes skill and timing play a huge role in Meta Knight's overall effectivness on the battlefield. Also he's not the most reliable character in Free-for-alls. Even though Meta Knight's my #1 fighter. I'd much rather use Snake in free-for-alls.

Those who say metaknight isn't overpowered are just inexperienced. I've played in a few tournaments and believe me, a good metaknight is almost unbeatable.
Metaknight is ranked number 1 on the teir list for a reason (smash wiki). No, he's not as dominant as fox and falco were, but when used correctly he is the best player in the game, period.
Not even my DeDeDe can match him, and I have a damn good DeDeDe.

What are you talking about? Fox/Falco weren't all THAT dominant, especially since Sheik and Marth were right up there, and even Peach and Falcon were pretty crazy at times.

first of all everybody i play with metaknight. he is my main character. he is hard to master and no not all can master him unless you put some time into him. you have to know the perfect time to do the shuttle loop, the turnabout shuttle loop, the dimesnional cape, the drill and more. he is very hard to master. you might be confused because you score combos easily. that is not mastering him.

Right, but he does have many distinct advantages. Speaking from the POV of a good MK player who plays against other good players, MK's greatest assets are his unpredictability and offense. If you're smart enough not to get hit, you'll win no matter who you are. You just have that much greater of an advantage as MK.

I'll help this in some way from a pro brawler Point of View.
Ike isn't over powered, all pro's established this. he is an above average character at best.
He's cheap if you can't air dodge, or in that matter dodge at all.
Metaknight on the other hand... He can chase, he hits like a truck, has amazing recovery to go with it also. It's not impressive to have a good Metaknight, Good for you if you do, but i think almost all pro brawlers can play Metaknight like BDawgPHD

Well, the objective analysis is that Ike, when used properly, is a lot faster than a n00b Ike. All you need to do is put pressure on, use lagless nairs as an approach, grab, jab combo, jab-grab, and basically not use many laggy moves. Ike isn't brokenly strong, but he is good, and he is viable as a player, even against other good players.

I have to say, although Meta Knight does have a pretty distinct advantage, it's in his versatility. A predictable Meta Knight would get destroyed by a good player. A lot of the things that you say make him or other characters overpowered are actually pretty easy to deal with if you think about it.

Well, not exactly. MK is definitely the best in the game right now, but terms like "overpowered" and "broken" are a little generous at this point. He is beatable and he although he doesn't have "counters" per se, there are a good amount of characters that can do decently well against him. Diddy, Lucario, Falco, and Snake to name a few...

Well, the thing is that a MK player HAS to be unpredictable in order to win, because MK has to space properly, and contrary to popular belief a lot of characters outrange and sometimes out-prioritize him. A predictable MK stands more or less no chance against someone good.
A predictable Snake, on the other hand, is still very hard to deal with, because he's damn near impossible to kill, his tilts are ridiculous in strength, range and priority, and he has a lot of hard to deal with projectiles.

Wario does have good air control, but he doesn't have the range that Meta Knight has. Also, since MK's ground game is so good, it sets up his air game.

He tried to attack twice on the ground. And meta knight's mach tornado doesn't have enough knockback to make an up kill. He midair jumped after getting hit. The person playing Wario only did 2 attacks. He didn't have any midair defense either. You can just hit the shield button mid air to dodge the attack.

not really. with every single character in the game, characters are used differently. MK may be predictable with the fact that he will always charge u to get in close (since has almost no range), some players might choose to use the b-attacks more than the a's, or some are really god at low jumping and can air combo like shitcrazy
