  • I met Danny while on holiday in the Canaries during the 80's, He was such a charming man and invited my boyfriend and myself to have dinner with him. Later in the evening we went to one of the many nightspots. I persuaded Danny after speaking to management to go up on stage and give us a little renditition of one of his favourite songs. He brought the house down. God bless you Danny. You were a true star in every way and sadly missed.

  • Don't know what you mean by My Channel.

  • Dear Christopher Robinson. Thanks for the reply, but if this is really at the London Palace, how come the costumes for the chorus are so different from the pictures in the souvenir programme? - Bill Solly

  • @wsolly Hello Bill. I replied on your channel. Maybe you didn't look at it?

  • This performance of "At the Palace" was not filmed during the London run of Danny La Rue at the Palace, which opened in 1970 and closed in 1972. I wrote the music and lyrics for the songs for the show, including this one. Does anyone know where this was filmed? in 1973 it could be somewhere in the provinces. --- Bill Solly

  • @wsolly

The show was filmed by Thames TV at the Palace Theatre London not long before it closed in 1972. (don't ask me the exact date...it's a long time ago!)

I know, cause I was in the show! I'm the guy on the end of the line, stage right, and then holding Danny's right hand as we come down the stairs!

    Many happy memories...

The clip on here is wrongly dated.

  • i met danny once he was lovely to me rest in peace we should be so proud in this country to have had a true star

  • I saw the show in Manchester at the palace theatre. It was a great night ad this snippet reminds me of the time. Thanks.

  • isnt it bout time highlights of dannys career was put together for a dvd and released its ridiculous to think that one of the biggest stars of variety has nothing to remember him by

  • A great entertainer...I loved him. RIP Danny x

  • a great entertainer no one has ever got close to be as big as he was.

  • My father is David Ellen one of Danny's leading man's. Does anyone know of any videos where i can find him and Danny performing together?

  • Hi There

I didn't know David had any children? the only way you might get copies it to ask your dad who else was in the show and see if they have any and maybe the TV companies, there were a few on ebay which i had taken off as it was someone trying to make money out of Dan,but i would say ask dad

  • Yes I'm his 2nd daughter. My dad and our family are based in Sydney Australia right now.

  • Happy Memories! I saw this show in 1972 and on TV after the season closed. The programme topped the TV. ratings that week, yes, even beating Corrie! I saw him many times over a 30 year period and he never failed to captivate the audience. We will not see his like again on stage.

  • RIP Danny, wonderful performer and artist. May his memory live on forever.

  • Goodbye Danny.... what a man, what a star!

  • What a star!

  • Have just heard that Mr La Rue has passed away. Another part of my growing up gone. A great entertainer and very much loved by the British public. I wish all those close to him my sincerest sympathies and love.

  • R I P Dan - great memories xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Is anyone going to tell us where we can get a copy of the whole show, PLEASE? Too young to have been there but heard how amazing it was , I would LOVE to see him at his height. Someone, PLEASE....... :-)

  • Saw this show at the palace in my youth with Roy Hudd as the comic. It was spectacular for it's day and has stayed in my memory ever since. Have a full copy of this tv version and it still makes me laugh, especially Danny as "Fanny Oakley" in a western skit. Remember him in several show's and even got up on the stage with him in Queen Passionella as a child. He is still a great British star in my eye's and deserves more recognition for changing the view of drag. Sir Danny!!!!!

  • I have the full dvd of this show

  • This is a wonderful piece of footage and history - thanks for sharing it with us Danny fans.

  • wonderfull...danny is fantastic

  • I've seen the hole show on video, I even watched it with Mr La Rue himself! Does anyone know where i could get a copy???

  • This is a very classic peice of footage, not sure why there have been no comments. I saw this very same number recreated in "Hello Danny" at the Benidorm Palace in November last year, Jerry lane was starring as Danny la Rue(the younger years) and it was amazing to see that splender and sparkle recreated again.Danny La Rue gave a fine performance in the second half and at 80 yrs old, showed no signs of going anywhere, well done to both Danny and Jerry! Looking forward to the UK tour fella's.

  • Great! I saw this show and remember this scene particularly. Danny in his absolute heyday. I think this was his best show too, and I have seen many! Thank you.
