  • Hindu squat represents a weak/inferior motor recruitment pattern with these faults among others:

    1. Blunts development of posterior chain when the heels lift, glutes and hams fade

    2. Unnecessarily shifts center of balance

    3. Reduces stability as center of mass is lowered

    4. Creates a potentially damaging shear force on the knee

    5. Dead-end movement - not a progression for any other movement

    6. Incapable of moving large loads

    7. Retards learning to squat, deadlift, push-press clean jerk snatch

  • I BE HINDU SQUATIN' ALL DAY!

  • i hurt myself lol

  • basically it's suposed to look like the beginning of a standing broad jump, then you do a row pull with the arms

  • I used do hindu squat like you, then i took an arrow to knee.

  • @basikalbaru Whhhhhhhhat the fuck. Even when researching different squats & form because I'm beginning to have knee problems, a goddamn Skyrim joke. I'm gonna go play that now.

  • I Go To Work Do My Cat Daddy? :P

  • I'm assuming the arm motion is necessary to protect the knees in what would otherwise be a very bad position.

  • HINDUUU SQUATO

  • yeah,,, i did about 20 and got tired and gave up.

  • Does this hurt your knees? I think that if I did that it would sound like someone was making popcorn...

  • @BagofHay Yeah, they do hurt your knees if you are like me have knee problems.

  • i don't think he's doing them fast enough tbh

  • i tried this and oh god my knees

  • his knees are going passed his toes and i don't like it

  • ok why's the complex arm movement important? why not leave arms hanging on side (like for deadlifts)?

  • in slomo you can imagine him trying to be a bird flapping his arms

  • Lol, I think the front and side was more than enough :)

  • Excellent video, well presented, good idea to show it from all angles and in slow motion. Thank you.

  • @beargrylls3

Faster weight transfer, more weight travelling downwards making the quads use more power than a standard squat at the initial upwards phase and this will build more explosive power than a standard bodyweight squat.

  • @plumber60 Good luck with having explosive power when your knees are ruined by that shitty form.

  • this looks like a really shitty form version of a normal body weight squat

  • these body weight squats will show gains only if you do them at high rep ranges. 30, 50, 100 or more depending on your fitness level. the arm movements do seem odd I will say that. anyways, try to bust out a hundred and see how you feel. judo push-ups are awesome for shoulders. not sure if they are similar to the hindu push-up.

  • @Dan138bigd "Depending on your fitness" is the key phrase.

If bending over to tie your shoes makes you breath heavy, 3 or 4 hindu squats a day to start will show gains for you.

  • What is the purpose of the arm movements?

  • question. will these squats help me increase my vertical leap?

  • I did 500 hindu squats the first time i tried them and Im overweight, what the fuck is the point of them

  • @chvyant You were obviously doing them wrong..

  • @Maleko88 How was I doing them wrong I was almost grinding my ass on my heels, Ive done whole lot of normal squats with weight they are a lot harder without the momentum that you get from swingin hands. Fucking pussy move lolol

  • @chvyant If you were "grinding your ass on your heels" you were getting your butt too low, and I'm inclined to guess that you weren't moving onto the balls of your feet while going down.

  • @AkhmedSync Those are two things you'd have been doing wrong.

  • @chvyant : The point is while you were doing those 500 squats the IQ average increased on You Tube.

  • @auggiedoggy The exercise is foolish, only such inbreeded geek as you could think they its effective in any way, its for people who want to act like they are exercising, because they are too lazy to do it for real. I just trolled the other guy and here comes some genious who can't tell a troll talking about You Tube average IQ, when you die the world's average IQ will rocket to a new dimension.

  • @chvyant : Come up with an original at least. Pathetic ...

  • @auggiedoggy You think your comment was more original, ahahahahahhahaha ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Pathetic, just like your exercise.

  • @chvyant : Like I said ... pathetic. BTW, its "genius" not "genious", genius!

  • @auggiedoggy If you argued in such retard way irl as you are arguing right now youd get slapped for not making sense, english is my 3rd language and I still write more proper and rich english than you ever will. Your Hindu Squats move is weak and feminin, if you want to keep protecting it with your nonsense arguments, just go ahead stay weak and feminin you cunt.

  • @chvyant

rather sexist of you to associate being "feminine" with being "weak".

  • I love reading the comments on these youtube exercise tutorials..... Everyone's saying, "Keep your heels on the ground!" then you go over to another hindu squat video and everyone says, "Get your heels off the ground!"

Everybody's an expert, and they all disagree...funny....

  • If I did my squats that fast my knees would explode

  • @Shindai mine just did, fuck

  • Your going wayyy to fast

  • Whats up with the toes, that's gonna put alot of unnessecary strain on your knees. You should try to squat by pushing your heels through the floor.

@FreeSalesTips: by virtue of your movement and acceleration, you're going to put more weight on your knees then just your bodyweight. The same applies for running et cetera.

Just do regular squats, to work your quads. You don't need to use weights. Just try 3 or 4 sets of 20-25 full squats without any weight. You better believe it works.

  • Youre knee's arent gonna like that sort of (so called squats)

  • Great exercise. Poor execution. The soles of the feet should be touching the ground all the time otherwise the knee take unnecessary pressure.

  • I tried doing this after I had curry for dinner and man did I have skid marks on my undies!

  • @Ironhearted02 LOL!!!!! Thanks for the tip.

  • this will ruin ur knees 100% garateed

  • @cedj121

Discounting the hyperbola, this would be true if you were overloading your knees with weights made of metal or excessive body fat. The exercise is supposed to be loaded using only your body weight. You wouldn't want to be in the situation when your own body cannot support its own weight.

  • Has anyone tried doing this with resistence band or two?

  • I tried Hindu squats after watching a few videos and using a metronome to set a smooth rhythm. Boy this exercise increases your heart in a short period of time, for good or bad, I do not know.

  • Bitch i go to work, true winner.

  • sir, your doing it wrong which is causing people to think that this squat sucks or will hurt. the thing that you are doing wrong is that your both foot must touch and only the upper part of your foot so because when your dong these squats your feet should be like standing both touching the ground properly. and for those who think these squats will hurt, your actually wrestler from India have been doing these squats for generation and they have never faced any major problems.

  • In about 1996, I used to do crazy (from today's standpoint) leg stuff. I did 50 one leg jumps from basically the upper pushup position with one leg bent under myself, alternating left and right leg during each jump. I weighed about 145 pounds and when I did it the first time, I could barely finish the 50 reps (25R/25L). After some time, I was jumping literally to the ceiling (head just under 246 cm/8'1") that way in way less than a minute (around 51 s). But it hurt my knees in the long run...

  • The problem is simple. As you get better and do it longer and faster, you just destroy your knees more and more. From what I feel, you should cap basically every exercise at about 1 minute and add resistance/weight somehow afterwards instead of time. With this particular exercise, I see wrist weights/dumbells for shoulder etc. boost and a waist belt with additional weights for legs/back. Definitely not a jump (or any jerking motion). Only some people can do crazy stuff with their knees lasting.

  • Everyone should do 200 of these and then try to walk down a flight of stairs

  • i did 400 of these last night and lost a pound ! it works guys (:

  • just did 20 of this really fast and my thighs are killing me! XD! buh I like it! will deffo be adding this to my excercise routines! tteeheee

  • Try doing these as fast as he does, except holding dumbells and adding a jump when you come up. Hurts bad.

  • Didnt zack fair do this?

  • @dfgdfg888 - lmao..

Btw, i cannot see this being healthy in the long term. A regular squat, especially with weights should be better than this.

  • @bizarrebob

you probabaly don't know very much so you might just wanna be quiet for a bit.

  • @sexuallyawkward - you said 'probably'. You're definitely wrong. Noob.

  • trying that for the 1st time for 5 minutes straight was possibly one of the hardest things i've ever done.

  • just another thing I read about but can't do due to having my ACL ruptured some years ago... can't bend my knee that far to get all the way down... life sucks

  • back in the day in the old days people in india used to do 500 hindu pushups and squatts or more because they didnt have a gym back then or it was far lol

  • @ThePunjabdholi123456 I am Hindu and I can't squat for shit.

  • @ghiblade loll no like long time ago

  • I performed 600 hindu squats in a row in less than 18 minutes just hour ago.

    I'm loving it. :)

  • Single Leg squats FTW!

I spent 2 months doing single leg squats and managed to nearly double my hindu squat max reps without doing a single hindu squat in those 2 months. Single leg squats are the king of leg exercises in my opinion.

  • @SuperMoreso Shut up fatty mcfat fat.

  • Haha you look so retarded

  • My LEGS!!!

  • heels not remaining on the floor = v poor form

  • @maxw0n Heels are supposed to come off ground

  • @maxw0n Actually no, you want to raise your heels and roll on your toes at the bottom of the rep for a proper hindu squat. What he is doing is correct form, I would personally do it slower and more controlled.

  • @maxw0n in this particular exercise its the other way around

  • Slow-mo chirping FTW!

  • My current limit is 60.

Next month I'll raise it to 70 :p

  • try doing this while masturbating but just one of your hands can keep doing the arm motion this guys doing .

  • i just don't understand the movement of the hands...is it so necessary..what's the profit of hands moving?if you say aerobic reasons then ok i understand..balnace reasons?ok again..but strength reasons?i suppose hindu squat was a strength building excercise in ancient india...i dont see the reason why hands should be moving...

  • @stswandersoul IIRC it has something to do with both the cardio and the way your weight shifts on your legs when you do the arm motion fluidly.

  • @stswandersoul I was told it's for balance, but personally, I find it helps for keeping rhythm and fluidity as well.

  • I usually go down far enough so that my hands touch the floor, and I keep my knees pointing mostly straight. Is that incorrect, or does the variation not matter?

  • Is there an advanced version .. ive done about 150 n theve only just started acheing. im doing them fast aswell?

  • @jermaine67 Go until you can't do anymore. Buddy of mine did 700 once and had to walk backwards down the hill we were training on because he couldn't bend his legs or he'd collapse lol

You could try using a pair of dumbells also.

  • can anyone tel me how many times should yo repeat this exercise day?

  • I have read in a couple of scientific journals that these type of squats, where the heel comes off the ground and the knees passes the toe line, are much harder and degrade the knees, as opposed to keeping the heel flat, sitting back, dropiing past 90 degrees, and not allowing your knees to go past your toe line.

I am not saying that these are not effective, but some of the knee degradation found in Indian wrestlers is explained, in large part, by doing hundereds upon hundreds of Hindu squats.

  • The way this guy is performing this hindu Squat is wrong. His hand movement is completely wrong, it's as if he is trying to wear something in every rep.

  • @rarehuman Does the hand motion affect the squat?

  • @LodyDude yes it does as as the hand motion exerts a forward and downward force and adds up to your squats. The hand is not just supposed to look good by lightly doing the movement, but it actually is involved in the movement. I tried looking up for a proper video but couldnt find one. Will post the link of one if I come across it.

  • @rarehuman If you find one that would be great, thank you.

  • This exercise builds up knee joints. Highly recommended.

  • I find these arguements to be very dogmatic. In reality a wrestler (as well as a boxer and an MMA fighter) should lift free weights and do body weight training. The key is work with a full range of exericises but organize them into a Periodized training program. I personally use the maxex method of Periodization where I will do a slow grinding exercise (Strength) and then an explosive one(Power).Maximum strength / power I will use weights, for endurance strength / power body weight exercise.

  • Talk to Complete Strangers about any religion

  • @DiazRemington So do you like scientology?

  • @impiccolomofo do you? if so, why do you dislike/hate it? i myself am an athiest, but intolerance of religon is something i am always curious in.

  • @MrPuffaluffagus i'm not intolerant to any religion, i just question the beliefs of some theists because they are... out there

  • @impiccolomofo lol, same.

But what is out there about scientology? Idont mean to be annoying, im just curious about everyone's opinion

  • @MrPuffaluffagus its not so much their beliefs, because the improvement of oneself is, in life, beneficiary. but they try to incorporate reincarnation into it. buddhism does that too, but they don't necessarily believe in a god. and when women are giving birth, nobody is supposed to talk. those customs..... just dont seem... i dont know how to explain it

    anyway, yeah pushups!

  • @impiccolomofo oh! okay, i see now, thanks for coping with me XD

  • @impiccolomofo

I'm intolerant to all religions. Except Rastafarianism, but even then, religion is for those who feel they have no sense of SELF direction in life, and feel they need to be lead down a "righteous" path, following pointless doctrines dreamt up by some crazy old blokes thousands of years ago (hiduism being the 1st). Islam is a prime example of why I am all for the dissolution of ALL faiths.Global anti-Theism would see the end of many unfounded hatreds, wars and barriors

  • @0SoulFox0 I am too, it's just some religions jump out at you like, what they are these people thinking?

  • My concern about this exercise is that the knees go way past the toes - I thought that was a no-no for knee injuries.

  • THAT, my friend, is dogma. Ironic, huh? :P

The knees extend beyond the toes naturally for some people, depending on their leg dimensions. I, for example, have very long legs. It's dangerous for me to fight the natural knee/toe positions. Doing so makes me fall backwards.

As long as the thighs and feet are aligned and the knees don't sway side to side, knee extension beyond the toes is not a problem.

    Rippetoe, Starting Strength. :)

  • @TheAmazingOti Nope, not ironic - I was just asking. No need for this point-scoring. Here is some science about the results people get working with different rep-ranges... Oh yeah that's right, crappy Youtube doesn't allow links any more; I might be selling you Viagra OMG... Must protect the stupid from themselves... Anyway, just google the title of the article: 'Lifting—Many Ways that Work'. It's on Clarence Bass's website. It references the studies for you to follow up.

  • After skimming that article, it seems that my statement holds true: Any method of resistance training will yield strength, provided that training is strenuous (i.e., there is great resistance). It doesn't matter where the resistance comes from, it just has to be there.

In the Hindu Squat, unless you are rather weak in the lower body, the movement is not difficult. Because of that, you won't gain significant strength.

    Am I missing something?

  • @TheAmazingOti Just keep doing them until you reach the last few reps you're capable of. Then you will be totally exhausting all muscle-fibres so long as you push through at least one or two difficult reps where you're almost totally out of gas. Then you will gain strength. It doesn't matter whether you had to do 10 reps or 1,000 reps to get to that point; it's where exhaustion takes place that 'progressive overload' occurs. Personally, I would rather do pistol squats and get there quicker.

  • How are these on the knees? THey seem like they require you to push from the toes.

  • @rmsolympic1 I see them done at a pace that they tend to bounce off the bottom. It has been a while since I read Matt Fuery's book but I am sure he warned about going to fast. My knees are fine--been at it for several years post knee surgery. No question in my mind they will be part of my work out for life!

  • Karl Gotch did 500 of these every day!, and Matt Fury still does them! Indian strongmen, Yogis, Cyclists, Ice skaters, wrestlers, many athletes have found that this exercise works wonders! Made my legs like iron! Go ahead, try to do 100 of these real fast without stopping, separates the boys from the men!

  • its like farting then useing the hands to gust the wind from yr ass at someone but overall he peformed the exersize briliantly

  • Thanks, the slow motion is helpful to try and figure out proper form!

  • Lol i fall on the ground after 5 times, because im not staying at my feet xD

  • this is called dand-baithak in hindi.....and not hindu squat.........lol

  • @AkkiSantana I think I would rather call it Hindu squats

  • @angelo8349 yes u can its easy ..i just told what's the real name....have fun

  • thanks!

  • Holy crap OW my legs hurt haha

  • Thanks for posting the video. First one of yours I saw and I like it. Looking forward to seeing more. Appreciate your work.

  • Simple question, why must the heel be lifted, as opposed to a squat with a barbell?

  • @Etienne938 i think because its supposed to work your whole legs and your working your calves when you pull your heels up, i watch this guy do it and i thought he was doing it wrong with lifting his heels until i watched other videos of guys doing the same thing.....and yeah and id never do this

  • damn i need to do this

  • i thought it was bad for ur knees if it went over ur toes? like this guy

  • @FatalityTTT I think thats why you lift your heels... not sure though :)

  • I put these in my training program now. These don't get you gigantic legs, or get alot strength but they will do nice in endurance in legs.

  • theres 4 things: weight lifting , bodybuilding, Strength training and Isolation training. Only doing bodybuilding will get your muscles bulky to where you cant move good which isnt for alotta people(just show-offs or competition). Baithaks are GOOD even bruce lee used them and put it in his book expressing the human body. Very good exercise for strength trainers.

  • i just did 150 in a row....now i feel my thighs getting sore

  • oh my gosh... i only did 12 squats and I feel so tired

  • Hindu squats are an ancient movement that has stood the ultimate test.....time. I've done squats with barbells, dumbells, kettlebells and also one legged bodyweight squats. Hindu squats, as depicted on this video, DO NOT HURT THE KNEES. Your results may vary, but they have been very rehabilative for me. Not to mention they are the second most intense cardio workout I know of, after the kettlebell snatch.

  • You're pretty retarded if you think you'll get 'bulky' and huge if you weight lift. Hint: Olympic weight lifters at the lower weight class.

  • does this help get rid of butt fat for men?

  • Cool. Thank you.

  • i got a realllyy fat belly looks so ugly so can you please give me info how to get rid of it in like 2 weeks quick please thank you

  • You can start by practicing the proper form for the hindu squat and other exercises, but don't do too many reps at first. (5-10 is good enough.) Safer to lose the fat with low-impact exercises (e.g., walking, swimming, and bicycling) before going on to the higher-impact routines.

Also, do not forget to eat properly (lots of fruits and veggies in addition to some meat and some cereals) and drink plenty of fluids to aid elimination of metabolic byproducts.

  • @MrAtonic

2 weeks? Why is everyone seeking instant gratification? Set realistic goals. I suggest reading Tom Venuto's material.

  • your knee joints are going to be ruined if you do your squats like that once ur knees pass over ur feet u put all of your body weight on ur knee joints there going to detearerate and you eventually wont be able to walk

  • @0pal23

Hindu Squats aren't like the squats you do at the gym. If the knees go past your feet during a gym squat, the knees will detoriate like you said. But Hindu Squats are done without carrying weights so they don't kill the knees. They actually rehabiliate them and strengthen them!

  • Thanks for the video and slow motion from all sides!

  • apparently, if you do these really fast, at like 100 in 5 mins twice a day, you can lose loads of belly fat

    works for me!

  • yeah dude,it works on me to

  • how does this work lol..

  • They my be good for you but i would never tell someone to do those tip squats, it's ok for you just not me, it's all good see you later.

  • why not ? whats wrong ? how would you do them and how many can you do in a row ?

  • This really made my quads soreeee in the morning...underestimated workout foreal!!!

  • I've never seen them done with the knees popping out so much like that... it doesn't look right to me... I've always seen them done with the pointing straight forward.

    Perhaps it doesn't matter :)

  • So far, 30 before my legs are nuked.

  • you can do 30 ? thats your record?

  • Since I wrote that comment, 65 now before my legs are nuked!

I do them every day! I could barely Hindu push-ups, probably 5, now 16-17!

It takes less than 5 minutes! Maybe at the end of 2010 = 500 squats and 50+ pushups?????

    (^_^)

  • in a row 65 ? more than a minute right ?

  • Around that, in good form too!

It's very encouraging to see your physical condition improving little by little!

I gotta fight procrastination and moronic excuses and it's worth it after you worked out!

  • how many times a day you do your squats ?

  • Once! I should do more than that but it'll be counter-productive, and I will get discouraged really fast.

Maybe it's time to add more exercises than just back bridge, h squats and h push-ups...

  • i dont see how that is counter-productive ? doing more of them ? so you do it once a day 65 in a row ?

  • its too much of a good thing, like weight lifting in general is good two or three times a week and once a day otherwise you dont give your muscles time to rest, repair and grow. i would say your first time aim for 50.

  • 60 and I couldn't feel my legs o.o

  • My legs were burning only after the second sets this works great.

  • haha well safe or not safe eh? well if you keep your back straight them im sure your ARMS and your KNEES and your TOES wont get damaged for doing what THEY WERE DESIGNED to do. proper form avoids injury id say

  • this is dumb. its very bad for 90% of people, and the other ten would still benefit more from regular squats. DON'T do this exercise

  • Why so? Do you have any proofs? Did you even try to do these?

  • there is plenty of proof to support what i said. thats why i said it. if you would like a video that explains proper squating form i would suggest watching the squat RX series by username: johnnymnemonic2 and no i would never try these. would you try strengthening you balls with a brick if some idiot told you it was safe? i know better.

  • @teamjinsoku - I'm not going to argue, obviously you're too ignorant to listen. The exercise here worked for me and for many others also. You never even tried it so how would you even know its bad? Just because theres one way to squat doesn't mean its the only way. If you're going to stick with weights because you want bulky muscles, go ahead, nobody's going to stop you. but for the rest of us who do this for strength or to get in shape, we'll just stick to this.

  • haha ok you do that. if you think this will make you any stronger than weighted squats you are poorly mistaken. i can tell by your comments that you have very little experience or knowledge about fitness and since you will not take my great advise, i will leave you to learn the hard way. good luck i hope you don't get patellar tendonitis or itbs.

  • btw i found out about this video through a fitness forum and it was posted there as a joke. not one person on that forum including doctors, chiropractors, or physical trainers agreed with this hindu squat.

  • You sound like a muscle head that does nothing but weights, LOL. Have you done any martial arts? If not then your ignorance is only elevated.
