  • makes me LOVE being from NYC and makes me HATE all this new shit comin out at the same time kna'mean?

  • I'm glad I atleast grew up during the 90's haha If I were born after 2000 I'd grow up feeling like nothing good musically was going on while I was growing up and I'd feel awful...I take pride in knowing people like CL Smooth, BIggie, Pac, Pete Rock, Tribe, and tons of others were putting it down while I was here on earth! peace.

  • This is a great track, always makes me feel good and a little sad at the same time cuz those early nineties are long gone now

  • Yo this dude one of the only MC's in history to live up to his name. This duo was probably the best in the few years they were makin hits. The only other duo that could compare was Gangstarr CL was a lil better than GURU but of course I luv PREMO'S beats got damn!No disrespect to PETE ROCK I remember he made his name on WBLS 89-90 when MARLY let him get Friday nights I knew a star was born right then.I like PETE'S work too especially on Illmatic but PREMO is my all time favorite hip-hop producer.

  • taylor 446fuck fuck you if you dont like pete rock and cl smooth tells me 3 things

    1. you are white

    2. you are young

    3. you are hip hop impaired

  • He sure does live up to the name 'C.L. Smooth'

  • love this song..

  • classic

  • CL Smooth has the perfect name, his voice is so soothing and tranquil. This video really captured a man showing respect and responsibility.

  • kudos to zodawg0079. I am glad I caught real hip-hop...

  • this is a beautifal ass song and soulja wayne must like it to or why would he listen to it or even know about it

  • souljawanyne must like the song. because iv seen his comments on lots of great hip hip that most people from this era dont even know about.

  • Everyone booooo the shit out out of souljawaynerules comment. give him a thumb down..

    everyone please do it.

  • true that...

  • what kind of hip hop you listen to? calling pete rock garbage.

  • he prolly is one of those ppl

who listen to the new age hip hope that IS garbage (soulja boy, wayne) and call it classic -_-

  • i know for real

  • nice name souljawayne rules? is that a joke? if so its not funny...listen to some real music not that garbage, assholes like you are the reason all these garbage rappers are getting recognition!!

  • smoooovee

  • A true timeless hip hop classic that warms the heart, stimulates the mind and lifts your soul.

  • @wlpow2 ur IDEA is MINE too

  • first word that comes to mind is "sexy"

  • I was 3 when the song came out. i still can remeber it to this day.

  • This is too good.

  • Is the love interest Latanya Blige?

  • no it isn't.....

  • I got this as my ringtone when my girl calls me.

  • 3 things I'll always be grateful for:

    1. My family

    2. My education

    3. Being a kid who got to grow up in the midst of a time period that saw some of hip hop's greatest artists and tracks. (90-97)

    What the hell happened?

  • comercialization of music on broader scale

  • hip hop is dead

  • H I P H O P!!! yo anyone know where pete rock sampled to make this???? get back asap

  • it's the ohio players version of whats going on. it's on their lp climax peace

  • ty for the info

  • This is what REAL hip-hop sounds like...

  • this is nice

  • this is one of the best songs of all time!!!!!

  • dr satan lmaoooo yeah man, it doesnt get ANY better please believe meee,,

  • One of my favorite Pete Rock & CL Smooth tracks. Classic!!!

  • this is my shit

  • come home hip-hop dammmm all this new shit dam drugs are mutha

  • artist like CL Smooth didn't last in the game because he's actually talking about something and has meaning and message behind his lyrics. this guy has just become one of my favs. wish he was still active!

  • compare tracks like this with "lolipop". seems like the new generation is against meaningful lyrics. but hey, times change and it's not always necessarily for the best.

  • As millions of other people with a "sense" would say, fuck Lil Wayne.

  • lol true that, i just wish more people had that same "sense"

  • man, i thought i was the only one who felt that way. nice to kno im not

  • CL has albums out in 2006 and 2007 if I'm correct. He's not inactive , I'm pretty sure 'bout that.

  • i love that wind pipe thing during the chorus...gives me the chills.

  • there are still some good ones out there like mos def, common, the roots... cl smooth needs a comeback album!

  • I love the bit where Pete wakes C.L up lol slap that ass!

  • I love this song !!! This is intellectual rap at its finest. We need more rap music like this !!!!

  • music aint like this anymore....wish i could go back to those days!

  • Do yall think i could find the instrumental version of Mecca & the Soul Brother anywhere ? The beats were so good... even nowadays they would sound brand new.

  • probably only have the instrumentals on vinyl singles.

  • I love Ed Eways!!!!!

  • That real HipHop...not that watered down shit.

  • Classic joint right here. I still bang it damn near 15 years after it was released

  • by dat note.pete and cl was and stil is tha bomb fome in 08 !!!stii respect to new true rappers......

  • If Hip-Hop was still produced at this level, I'd be a huge fan.

  • memmory lane soundtrack of my 90´s miss yer.straight from tha heart4real!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song describes how love is supposed to be. I can't listen to this new shit people consider "rap" or "hip-hop". They need to play this on every radio station and make everybody listen. It'll teach you something about how to treat a woman.

  • Always a message. Essential hip-hop. Respect w/ sincerity. Family... Family.

  • its hard to swallow.. the fact that the problems then which a lot of great music tried to inform.. has only gotten worse.. so much worse.. and to think this generation doesnt have a lot to look up to positively less they search for it.. this shit is unreal.. RESPECT

  • wow i come back to this joint now n then, n it always seems to take me bak to a world that makes sense again.

  • why they broked up?

  • hell yeah this beat is bangin.

  • this song is my all time favorite songs by pete rock and c.l. smooth

  • these guys were amazing man!! fucking class!!!

I miss this stuff and those days 2 much.

  • this what i call good sampleling, good music"

  • positive hiphop at it best.i just wish they would make another CD.

  • Nice, From way back when rap was young, and i was too.

  • Man this takes me back to high school..Love this song!!

  • The whole vibe this song creates is amazing. I miss it.

  • classsic!! I was so mad when they broke up!!

  • Hip hop still lives with joints like this. Oh how things have changed since i started listening..

  • I'm 16 years old, and even I am listening to this ;) The real Hip-Hop! I can't listen to Lil Wayne, Young whatever or other southside junk...! I just love the real east coast: straight New York !! :D I think more Hip-Hop listeners of my generation should listen to this... But all they do is that stupid Soulja Boy shit...

    Peace

PS: If we just keep listening this and give this to our next generation after ours; then they will hear the real joints too ;)!

  • thank youuu man we damn near the same age and i got da upmost respect 4 ya we need this shit now though i mean if i aint have this my grades would be fucked its sort of motivation

  • For real man ;)

  • This is exactly how it is...can't stop listening!

  • wow. i get chills every time I hear this. Its a trip how people have changed. This video really shows what life is about, not that shit on tv now. sigh...

  • Too much memories!

  • i got a little misty eyed listening to this 1....good ol days

  • I was about 15 when this came out and looking back I was so spoiled for music, I cant help thinking we fought so hard to get hip hop away from the corporate "white" companies so we could have it for ourselves but look what we did to it?

  • We miss you hip hop.

  • hip hop isnt dead or something so you dont need to miss it

  • Just to add on to my previous comment, NYC already had (and still has) it's own style, flavor, and sound to hip-hop, but Pete Rock & CL Smooth had their own seperate style entirely. They were on another platform... it was devastating to watch them break up. They are truly legends and they were ahead of their time. I would listen to their songs all day... including the instrumentals.

  • This is my joint! I am only 21 years old but I remember listening to this song growing up... my parents raised me in Philadelphia but my father is a Bronx (Wakefield) native and my mother is a Brooklyn (East Flatbush) native. My grandmother lived in Harlem (Morningside) and I remember going to New York on the weekends and listening to Hot 97... I felt like I was on top of the world back then... listening to this song makes me feel like I am again. It's a good feeling...

  • Can we please go back????? PLEASEEE!!!!

  • yeah man im feeling dis joint

classic da whole album was da bomb

  • classic

  • gkelly8754 - i couldn't have said it better myself - SPOT ON with that comment for real. that, along with 2pac and biggie's death was the end of hip hop for me. All down hill from then on
